Shininghappyperson7 Likewise!!! Such an incredibly AWESOME sight & sound!!! I tell you, Those old RS-3s have a charm and charisma of their own that today's modern, microprocessor controlled diesels COMPLETELY lack!!!!
I was just over in Russia last year an alot of there yard engines had old Alco engines in then definatlly a classic nestalgic sound still working the yards and branchlines I also heard what sounded like some old Fairbanks Morse engines all with Russian built bodies of course but sounded like old American prime movers some of them at least
well it was my understanding that we did import alco engines to them as a mater of fact I have a shot of an American Alco RS1 at a muselm in St Petersberg and I was also told we imported the prime movers to them in the late 40s all I know is what I have been told over there but what I heard is identcal to whats in this video
I would assume that to be the case the ones I saw sounded like this but the body style was differnt but the prime movers were definatlly alco and some most likeelly were Russian built copies..I also saw and heard some engines from fairbanks Morse too there is no mistakeing that opposed piston sound FMs made while in Archangel I saw unts identical to the FM trainmaster..I rode steam over there this year and like the Diesels we sent US steam there too I saw a few Russian built US copies
Nice, do these still have 244's or are they like the old BM (later Detroit and Mackinaw) RS-3's that got 12-251C's? We had a few RS2's and 3's on our local short line but they have either blew them up or put them in the dirt. All we have left for Alco's are a few C425's and MLW420's. They (LSRC) have bought 13 EMD's in the last 4-5 years. Good to see RS-3's still kicking.
If you REALLY want to hear good sound, type in the code &fmt=18 at the end of the address for this video up in your web browswer and hit enter. It puts the video in full stereo sound and better picture. This works on most videos.
You don't see those old RS series locomotives very much anymore.

What's with the trolley wire over the track? Do any electric car run on that line too?
