@grandweasel Sorry for answering this after 2 years; read it in the video comments. Kolinar is Atreides in the end. He is a mentat, true, a master of assassins, but it must be worried about what is good and what is not. Desperated, he has forgot the debt from the Smugglers, maybe the recovery of the flight 23 advanced carryalls. They can't ever be trusted. Achillus got to autorize this action.

@grandweasel Atreides Mentats are incredibly faithful and fanatical, but also given a degree of humanity lacking in their counterparts. Also, Leto I decided to let smuggling go on when he was Duke ,in exchange for a cut of the action- hence Atreides has links with the smugglers Ordos and Harkonnen do not.

hmm but the harkonnens also got kickback from the smugglers. Letos plan was simply to replace the harkonnens smugglers with his own. Also he wanted to run down the harkonnens to the emperor for their corruption

@SirPepe666 Leto made enduring friendships and business contacts with the Arakeen Smugglers while the Baron used them as mere tools in their spice corruption. The Atreides make friends with people, the Harkonnen generally force people to help them (and the Ordos of course swindle them). In the books at least a noble Harkonnen marries an Atreides later on, eliminating the stigma Harkonnen have.

true. but this wasnt what i meant. What I wanted to say is that not only the Duke worked with the smugglers. of course the practices of this "teamwork" where completly diffrent to each other. and the duke not only wanted to make friends with the smugglers also to run down the harkonnens. Its long time ago i read the novels but i think I will read em again. Would be cool to have someone to talk about dune - if you ask me you can interpret the wohle dune universe totally difrent

@SirPepe666 of course every House has relations with the smugglers- no one likes the Spacing Guild at all and sending tithes to the Emperor is usually done reluctantly. The noble Atriedes however treat them like business partners, while the Harkonnen only use them to get what they themselves can't steal or buy, then probably eliminate them to keep it quiet.

I don't like to attack the Harkonnen with the Atreides, with an Ordos's debt. They have tried to kill the Duke. Somebody tell me wath think about this.

You know the duke unlike the other factions has a brain of his own. The baron has the mentat to do the thinking for him. While the executrix having four minds couldn't think of an idea on getting themselves of the planet.

It's to show how wonderful the Duke is, basically. And it means that the Duke has an excuse to show forgiveness. Character enhancement, and all that.

seems like that to me too. So they made atreides mentat a narcoman? Hell they're screwing their noble reputation here in emperor well:-) That is why i like Dune 2000 for storyline more. Altough it's much less of actual story, it definitely featured much better actors. John Rhys-Davies as mentat Norree Moneo is excellent and so is the Ordos mentat Edric O much better than Roma Atani. And Mentat hayt is even more scary than the original Piter - brad dourif
