I remember this day vividly..I was there and I watched the building burning..oh man i was so close to it also...one of the saddest days...RIP to all those who risked their own lives to save others...
the foo fighters song you are talking about is on a cd that WAAF 107.3 actually released, it's called "WAAF Survive This" ... it's the one with the edits of the memorial with Mayor Mariano.
A fine ode to collegues on the other side of this planet. We all know the risk but we try to prepare as best as we can and when the alarm sounds we go. These brave men paid the ultimate price in their effort to save others. Rest in peace fine collegues, I bow my head in deep respect.
It totally seems like yesterday, I remember my dad comming home (to shrews from Worcester) ad being totally shaken up and just putting the news on and all of us stood around and watched, horrible thing that should never happen, in fact I am doing a speech And debate piece ( mayor Ray Maniros) remarks about the tragity this year and will be at the memorial service this year
Geez, this was wicked sad. I didn't realize a lot of the guys were younger than 45. My father was in his cruiser blocking off 290 on the bridge. He couldn't believe how hot it was even from that distance. It was so sad listening to everything going down on the scanner.
I was working my last night work on that "go round" the night they perished.. It was also the largest L.O.D.D. funeral i had attended prior to 9/11... it really hit home since i was on radio watch and it came across the news.. Even though im in philly, i started to cry thinking about the wives and children left behind .I still have the original W6 sticker on my truck and helmet..Still wear the memorial shirt weekly, i cant believe it has been almost 10 years since the ULTIMATE SACRIFICE! R.I.P.
I marched in the procession the day of the memorial service. It was chilling how all you could hear was marching feet. Not a sound from the thousands of people along the route except occasional applause. RIP brothers.
I think Creed makes the most fitting songs for the topic of my videos.
I didn't create the videos to express my chosen style of music. I made them to honor past, present, and future firefighters especially the ones who answered their last alarm.
I remember when it happened.. I was just seven. I cried for days straight because my uncles are firefighters. I met a kid in 2006who knew Jerry Lucey, he's still not over it. I live right out side Boston and someday I hope to join the BFD.
Does anyone remember the Foo Fighter's "My Hero" remix that WAAF did for the firefighters? It had quotes from the funeral in it. I have been trying to find it but with no luck. It would make a great memorial video too.
Firefighters rush in bulidings without asking color of skin religon ect. They went in this bulding looking for humans. They are heroes and there tribute was moving they will be missed. Now we need a memorial on that site so we will never forget. God bless there family.
That's true. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that a Worcester police officer was at a diner across from the incident when a bystander alerted him that two people may be trapped inside. Units rushed in to search for these "people" but when the situation began to grow increasingly dangerous, units were ordered to retreat. All came out except for those six firefighters, later confirmed to be from the Worcester Fire Department.
That's what happened. The bystander was the owner of the diner. He knew the homeless people becasue he used to give them food. He was so torn up about the Six.
There is a wicked good (using my mass terms for you new englanders) article in Esquire Magazine it was an interview with the B/C Who was in command that night... I think it was like february 2000 issue.. Anyway i have the magazine in my house somewhere but if you guys wanna hear it straight from the Batt Chief google the article or whatever or send me an email i will find the mag and scan and fwd you the article... You will get goose bumps and your eyes will just swell up!!
It's a sad day when 7 (not a typo) firefighters die in 10 years for one city. RIP.

WAAF? Do you mean IAFF? International Association of Firefighters?
boston18967345 3 years ago
WAAF are the call letters of the radio station that put the remix together. It is 107.3 out of Boston.

Just a clarification, more than six rushed in, but those unfortunate six didn't make it out when the call went through to vacate.
