  • Oh. a new one! Put it to the "tutorials" in my channel! vey nice!

  • @davescot100 I agree! If you find any, let me know.. I was not fortunate enough to be around when he was playing his early stuff live. Malcolm

  • Thanks for the lesson! At last someone made it easy to study, not just showing themselves playing ;)

  • Awesome! I'm so glad you posted this because I've forgotten how to play it! Great instructions. You've made my day :)

    cheers,

    julie

  • @buniluvr I am so glad to help! Have fun playing. Malcolm

  • very well done, well explained thank you

  • @stolperhaiku Many thanks! Glad it was helpful. Malcolm

  • Interesting..the tuning makes an open G7 chord, with the thumb alternating bass picking the root and 5th of Gmajor. And that open 6th string bass for the F chord-typical JM sound 'striking low' on the bass at some point in a song-very characteristic. I've never had a go at this, JMs very early stuff is on a backburner for me mostly, but I will, and I'll be using this video. I think this is much better than tab actually.

These are *great lessons*-very clear and detailed. Many thanks for this.-Ian

  • @ianmcgeachy Sadly, i know no musical theory at all. Have always played by ear, though now with YouTube the ability to learn from others' videos makes it so much easier, which is why i wanted to return the favour and post some lessons of my own. I agree it is also better than learning from tab, as there is often subtle nuance to the playing (as well as the fingering positions and so on) which are much more easily picked up this way. Thanks for your kind appreciation, Ian. Malcolm

  • @malcolmpaine I picked some music theory up from trying to play improvised Jazz guitar about 20 years ago. It can be helpful, in 'getting there', now & again. I blend some theory with ear/trial & error...a combination that's~ second nature now. You play *absolutely great guitar*, regardless, no bullshit. [& you're in esteemed company (JM, Tommy Emmanuel, Ralph McTell...the list goes on)..any 'theory' is just a vehicle to get sounds, in the end, after all. -Ian
