  • Do you think you can use the same method to take apart an 1893 Winchester? The 1893 has a solid frame. I have not been able to figure it out. Are you familiar with the 1893?

  • @courtneymtitus The same method should work for the 1893, only taking into account that it is a solid-framed model.

  • First off I would like to say, AMAZING gun. I love the take down models but haven't been able to get my hands on one. sadly all I have for now is a repro. Its still pretty nice though. Second, I was wondering if you could tell me what what brand the set of screwdrivers are that you have there. I've been looking for a good set for a decent price.

  • @TheMr45acp The screwdriver set is by Smith& Wesson. I got it back in the middle of 2011. I think I paid $29.00 on Amazon, the prices vary.

  • Good job. The action on my 16 ga 1897 is jammed, and this is a good guide to taking it apart.

  • @zulutx No problem, glad it helped.

  • Great video, Edward - thanks!

  • the screw your taking out at 3:24, what is the name of it? my gunsmith told me i needed a new one. do u know a place where i could order the part also?

  • @jchelampath That screw is a carrier pin retaining screw. You can find these on Gunbroker and Numrich Gun Parts online. I take it that your screw head is stripped.

  • Thanks you saved me a lot of head scratching :)

  • why the satin finish? isnt its original configuration blued?

  • @Dmajorproductions The finish on the receiver is well-worn; the gun is over 100 years old.

  • great video i also just bought one of these and have a problem with movement of the barrel can u please tell me what you used to stop this?

  • @josh1578 What kind of movement are you having, concerning the barrel?

  • Im a cowboy action shooter and i have been confused on how to break my 1897 shotgun apart, i own other shotguns but none that takes down like the 1897. I greatly appreciate you posting this video. It has saved me alot of time and headache. Thanks agian!!!

  • I just picked up a 97 myself recently with full length 30" bbl. I see that you have cut your bbl to 20" or so from your first video. Do you intend to transform it into a repro trench gun with heat shields etc? I'm considering chopping mine down to 20" for the potential of using as a trench gun project myself. By the way, I'm up in Canada and I wanted to say as well good job on your videos.

  • @madrid12100 Thanks for your comment and questions!

The barrel in this video is an original, but not the barrel that came from the factory with the receiver. The original barrel to this receiver is still 30 inches, most likely for the off chance I would go hunting with it in the future. If you can find another barrel that may fit, go for it. I recommend Gunbroker or any gun shows in your area. I recently found an original riot barrel that fits, now the gun does H.D. duty for me.

  • @Mossy500A

Glad to here you didn't chop the barrel! Great videos I have been looking for a 97 for a good while and finally found just the right one. I will receive it sometime next week. I have learned several things about this gun from your videos that I did not know before. Thanks.

  • EXCELLENT! You do great work and make it look easy. THANKS!

  • Is yours stainless or nickel plated? Or is it just the bluing reflecting the light?

  • @hydra046 The barrel is actually in the white. All of the finish has been stripped off. I have since replaced it with an original riot barrel from Winchester a couple of months ago.

  • @Mossy500A Is yours a replica reciever? My Winchester is a Riot Gun with a take down frame. All original parts.

  • @hydra046 My receiver is an original, made in 1909.

  • @Mossy500A Yours is only 8 years older than mine

  • I find it easy just to utilize the takedown function to get access to all the insides then use canned air and aerosol oils to clean and lubricate mine.

  • @hydra046 There are some parts in the carrier that can accumulate dirt and grime over time. Soaking before air blasting will help out with cleaning.

  • @Mossy500A Soaking it in solvent is a good way to help loosen things, just make sure to remove the wood stocks before you do. Solvent will strip a finish very quickly.

  • Thanks for posting this.

  • @mortarish You're welcome, hope it becomes useful to you.

  • Thanks!

  • Thanks so much for this video! It's the only video on youtube that I can find dealing with the disassembly of this shotgun! You do it slightly different from what I've seen written on this shotgun. Usually what I see is that people take the carrier assembly/hammer apart piece by piece before bringing it out of the gun. Your way looks MUCH simpler, so again, thank you!

  • Haha you've got the same shell holder setup as me. You should look into a pachymer recoil pad, fits good and absorbs a lot of the recoil
