But, I have to ask: for what purpose did Juliet give her life? In spite of her sacrifice, the world still fell! But all seemed to be well in the end. So, did she just die to be with Romeo? If so, that makes her selfish AND stupid. At least Romeo died to protect her; she died for nothing!!

This is such a great show and I enjoy it every time I watch it. : ) But if Juliet isn't one of the dumbest anime heroines I've come across, I don't know who is.

@hikaruchan16 Juliet died to save the world and to be with Romeo. Escalus was reborn, giving new life to the land and allowing Rome and Juliet's love to live on. Hence, the giant tree at the end. Hermione left the rose and the iris at the foot of it, and then later Romeo and Juliet's spirits/ memories or whatever joined hands in front of it. So I don't think she was stupid, but that's just me.

Romeo could had let her go but they made a vow that through life and death, happiness and sorrow, that they would stay together. But, why didn't he let Juliet go? The answer is love. this is not sad trust me the play is alot sadder if you understand shakespeare you would understand because at the end when Juliet and Romeo both die from thier own doings the friar tells the two families thier secret love affair but the two houses still argue even after seeing how their conflict has caused the death of the two lovers and is not being able to love a person for he/she is the child of thy enemy is truly sad.

I despised Romeo's character in the play and I was nuetral on Juliet and since I didn't give damn about the characters, I didn't care about the ending. This, however... I really liked them both, which makes it a lot sadder. Sorry, but the play is extremely overrated.
