Check it out guys. Who cares about the giant redwood, now we have 15 foot tall power friendly trees! Idk. Had branches ever actually taken out the power before? And fruit trees are always cool.
looks like they got the right guys for this job that is nice work! watching tree trimmers go about this kind of thing makes my gut roll most of the time.
@DurintheDeathless91 oh gosh, the tree was there before the power line! have to cut a tree down because it is in the way! what is the world coming to ??!!! I bet there was a tree growing where the house you live in is now do you complain about that having been cut?
job well done guys. i use the pratial block on most of the firs i drop here. yup believe it, hawaii has a redwood forest. we harvest timber every year. its done in sperate stands. after a certain stand is dropped, there is a planting crew that comes in and replants the whole stand. its pretty cool how it all works well. from the saplings to the stands ready for harvest is about 25 years appart. they grow to about 60-80 feet tall in 25 years becuase of all the water we get annually.
The video title was eye catching, because its so similar to Stout Grove, the old growth redwood grove. On the subject of big trees, ever seen the Nat Geo 44 minute video? Search in Youtube's box for >>> Climbing Redwood Giants
@RedwoodExplorer That was a good video by Nat Geo. That whole cover story was cool. Alot of it was photographed just south of us a few miles on the California border.
Lol...no not really. But it's required when were working next to power lines. Plus ut was such a high profile event lots of people were watching....we didnt need an accident. The skidder was strictly a precaution!
Well, Here in the U.S...thats not what we call a Dutchman. Thats a plain ol face with a partial block so she dont close up early. Just a precaution we take when pullin next to power lines....cant really go wrong with a nice open face. As far as the low back cut goes.......really? From my computer it looks pretty good...but if you have any expert tips on how to do this, please, let me know because I scared and i dont know how to use a saw.....duh
@Duker2000 Well, you know, some people take that 1" of stump shot per 10" of diameter rule as gospel. Mostly those are people who don't know what a Humboldt is for.
please im from Brazil and i need to know everything about trree and forest in english cos im about a forest engineer and i want go to usa or another english country to work
It amazes that people still leave comments like this when everything has already been explained. Hey Accounts, read a little bit and you'll get the whole story. Judging by your comment however, your intelligence level may restrict your ability to compute information you take in to your tiny brain...assuming of course you can even read.
hmm.. ok.. you have to cut that tree because of the power line... but why did't you think about power line in order to move it to safe distance from the tree.
Because Poewrlines are in a PUC right-of-way and have little if any room for placement. (like when they run through your backyard). at the time the Redwood was still managable and very worth trying to save. It was maintained and trimmed for over 42 years before it finallt got to big.
dont understand why this had to be cut it look like a nice tree chillin in the park nice shade in summer..why? por que a cultura esta dentro de nós. porque somos maus.
nice vid duker and bigtruck very good points made! Very little is wasted in logging and much more is replenished. Where would we be without proper forestry management?
Vegan wants to jam his wican down everyones throat. Little does he know that 2 out of every three wooded acres in the USA are set aside in parks, preserves or other legislative holdings. Old trees give off harmful gases where younger trees give rich fresh oxygen. We have more forest now then when the pilgrims arrived simply due to fire prevention. fires would burn for decades without stop. Our logging is nothing compared to the wipe out of the fires.8 trees are planted for each cut!
Thanks for your support bigtruck. The logging roads around us are crammed full of restoration crews and tree planting teams. Renewable rescource indeed. I live in smack in the middle of logging country and EVERYONE is supportive of what we do. If your going to make comments like the the one vegan left, you had better be out there in it working doing your part and in the process LEARNING something about it. Vegan, you cant blow smoke up my butt about something I know well.
...no. old trees do not give off "harmful gasses" and "we have more forest now then when the pilgrims arrives!??!" that is simply ridiculous. You have to be making a shitload of money in the logging industry, or else just really stupid, to believe that.
But I have no problem with controlled logging. but cutting down really old trees like this one is just stupid. Although I don't know the real reasons behind it, so I shouldn't judge.
Better do your research they do give off gasses where new trees give fresh oxygen. Speaking of controlled logging? Well it is true about having more trees now then when the pilgrims arrived, do the ressearch! Forest burned for decades with no control or a single man to put it out and they'd burn for years clearing the landscapes. TRUE FACTS! We now control fires, replant, and the logging we do is nothing compared the gulp up of the fires that naturally occured in yrs before us.
"TRUE FACTS!" well, that settles it, then. I guess since you put it all in caps, it must be true. give me some sources please. because I know that those facts, at least in the way you present them, are not true.
about the "harmful gases," unless you are talking about some ridiculously obscure and rare tree that DOESN'T photosynthesize, then you are wrong.
Trees are photosynthetic plants, so by definition, they produce oxygen, no matter their age.
You do realize that you have to be lacking an absurd amount of intelligence to believe that, right? Forest fires can't burn for decades or even a single year because of this thing called precipitation. Basically, the sky darkens and clouds come and drop water on the ground.
Not to mention the fact that forest fires burn rapidly, so there isn't enough wood to even suply a fire for that long.
Trees are indeed photosynthetic, however they are also aerobic plants. Trees cycle every day between synthesizing oxygen from CO2 and "breathing" oxygen for their life cycles. Young trees have a net oxygen output, that is they produce more than they use. Old trees, however, have a net CO2 output. As a tree gets larger, more O2 is needed to sustain it. It is not unheard of for old trees to be cut down for this very reason. 1 old tree produces CO2, and if it is cleared 4 new trees can grown.
There is data readily available from the forestry service that proves big truck's point. While it cant be proven (due to lack of data) that there are more trees now than 300 ears ago, it can be proven and is in fact quite true that there are significantly more today than 100 or 50 years ago. US forests increase by I believe around 2 million board feet of native timber each year. Sounds good to me.
@DLBBAM which is the typical human thought process: "well, I don't think 4 billion years of evolution got it right, so i'm just going to kill it and do it my way."
Besides, trees never produce more co2 than they absorb. Some of the oldest trees in the world are the ones that produce the largest amount of oxygen.
The claim that old trees are bad for the environment is childishly ridiculous. I'm preeetty sure that the atmosphere was in good condition before humans decided cut down all the trees
well your statement first requires faith in the theory of evolution. Bu that's a whole different discussion.
Research it, I believe you will see that in many species old trees do in fact produce more CO2 than O2. Perhaps I am wrong, I stand to be corrected.
I didn't say they are bad for the environment. I don't think humans are capable of destroying the environment either. The sun is many times over the largest producer of greenhouse gasses that is, next in line is volcanic activity.
@DLBBAM right, and botht eh sun and volcanic activity are completely natural activities. With both of those factors of greenhouse gasses, the atmosphere thrived. We are the factor that is causing global warming.
We have the ability to reduce our emissions. We can't just stop volcanic activity. And we can't stop the sun.
p.s. "faith in the theory of evolution" - interesting choice of words haha
yes, the word choice was intentional and meant to make a point.
But part of my point in bringing up Sun and volcanic activities is that I don't think we are making the earth warmer, but this is about forests and not Global warming so I will not debate this issue, and should not have brought it up, I apologize. Were this a video about this topic, then yes I would be willing to debate it, but it is not. You are always free to contact me privately if you wish to discuss this.
I'd rather have that tree alive than electricity--assuming that power line is supplying power to my apartment, which I sincerely doubt...furthermore, I didn't build this apartment, it's almost 40 years old, so my living here has nothing to do with the trees cut down to build it. So that point is irrelevant.
14 new trees do not even begin to make up for the cutting down of 7 mature, several hundred year old Redwoods. It's going to take many decades before they start doing what those trees were.
" I'd rather have that tree alive than have electricity." Right...I'd like to see you go a couple a days w/o your YouTube. Guess what? Monday morning I'm going logging and cuttin down a crap load more tree's. But there not for selling. It's Sudden Oak Death. Something you prolly havent heard of. Funny, alot of people who hug trees have no idea what goes into the preservation of them or the logistics of there health and regrowth. Hey! Theres some great videos on shooting rabbits here you'll like!
I've gone a lot longer than that without youtube, or any internet, or any substantial electricity, LOL.
RE: preservation, forest ecology, forest health, etc.--try me! You don't even seem to have a grasp on basic grammar or spelling, so your overall knowledge base is suspect...
You said "It's going to take many decades before they start doing what those trees were." speaking of new trees replacing old ones. You're absolutely correct, my friend. Disgusting is how your refridgerator smells after two days without power...power is what you dont have when this tree falls on three phase power line right next to it. We trimmed on this tree for years before the power company had us remove it. Guess what salad shooter? We removed six other big trees that day to. And here's something you might not know...your freakin house is made out of wood, which comes from a tree. Oh ya, we planted 4 plums, 6 Ash, 4 ornamental maple to replace what we took.
Check it out guys. Who cares about the giant redwood, now we have 15 foot tall power friendly trees! Idk. Had branches ever actually taken out the power before? And fruit trees are always cool.
