  • The live version of this song is sooo awesome.

  • dont like u2 since the Joshua Tree album anymore but that song is

    awesome!!!!!!!!!

  • One of their finest songs from their apparently least rated album

  • Irish history song.

  • I own this country gentleman of Gretsch

  • is Larry Playin' Sunday Bloody Sunday around 3:45 ??

  • how dare you to fade out the beginning of "streets".leave it in, the whole performance is please followed by streets. never cut it in 2.

  • interesting, didn't know it was written during actung/ zooropa period...........always regarded this song head and shoulders above the other songs on the pop album.

  • My father loves this song..but when they played it, he was at the bathroom :P

  • Can someone upload the rest of Where The Streets Have No NAme, please? :)

  • Pop is the most underappreciated album. as Bono said, if they had few more weeks to polish it up it will be Achtung Baby's sister or brother

  • Someone recently commented here on YouTube that Pop was some of the most sophisticated and magnificent rock musicianship ever, disguised as slush, and that the critics didn't get it... To be fair, many of us didn't get it at the time... It seems to make more sense today than it did back in the 90's.

  • POWERFUL STUFF!!!

  • Stunningly brilliant....

  • gran concierto!!!

  • linda version de esta cancion

  • u cant get a band any better

  • the best tour of U2 ever

  • @raronski . . . 1997 i think . . . you're certainlly right , best tour ever !

  • Comment removed

  • Best song of them (one of them) Just fabulous!

  • love bono style's

  • It's So beautiful song! I love the sound of the edge's guitar ;)

  • and the song he usually dedicates to him is gone, not please

  • is song about a smart person gone crazy??

  • Nice remake here. The studio version wasn't nearly as good as this. :)

Only few others (like Dream Theater) can remake their own song and improve them live.

  • The reason why is he sings this song so sad is because the dead of a great riend one day beore this concert

  • @jcarlos100 this song is about troubles in northern ireland, no friends or anything similar...and they've always played this song on popmart tour...every night

    inform yourself before writing

  • @esorciccio i Know and you should inform a little better, cause he sings the entire concert sad, because the vocalist from INXS died a night before this specific concert. I know it´s not about friendship. I´m just telling why he sound´s so sad in this particular performance.

  • @jcarlos100 hutchence died on november 22nd

    this concert was december 3rd....

    i repeat...inform yourself....

  • @esorciccio ok i was wrong about him dying one day before, still have a point regarding the sadness of Bono. He even speaks about it at the end of the concert (i was there) So my point still valid.

  • @jcarlos100 that night he was sad because the night before the u2 head of security had a serious injoury because of the staff of the mexican president son who wanted to meet the band. u2 security told him it was impossibile but he insisted....it began a fight between u2 security and president son security...and the chief of u2 security had a serious injury that stopped his career. at the beginning of "still haven't found" you can hear bono sayin "we nearly lost a friend last night"

  • @esorciccio Bono was actually referring to his friend Guggi, who contemplated suicide!! he called him G-man!!

  • @lm035

No no Guggi is very much alive and well. esorciccio is absolutely right.

  • @juutuubify Im not denying that the accident happened with the security guard but I have read an article about the concert and Bono was referring to Guggi!! Ok!

  • @lm035 Interesting, I didn't know that.

It's just that in U2 by U2, they say that Bono was referring to their security man, Jerry Mele. But of course his name starts with a J and not a G, so he may very well have been talking about both of them that night.

  • i miss this indian part on the studio-version, i'd like to have it in any form, any suggestions?

  • But the single version or the EP with streets, please, staring at the sun and with or without you live from rotterdam.

  • One of my all time favorite U2 songs and live performances.

  • 3:38..i guess larry was missing sunday bloody sunday :D

  • la mejor versión in live de please

  • One great song to the next. What a perfect segue. 'Please' is seriously underrated.

  • I agree. And this version, ow man, goosebumps all over!

  • U2 wrote "Miami"

  • I like this song !! Popmart is the best concert ever!!!

  • i wonder why they don't keep playing this song on concerts... Please is just a great song as well as "Gone" and "Discotheque". Too bad they seem to feel ashamed because of all the critics. Still, I believe this record is better than the last 3 they've pulled. They just missed to make a good mix of the songs (which they corrected for their 1990-2000 compilation)

  • Amen to that my friend. This is my favourite version of the song live. I got this whole concert on cd which was a bootleg back in 1998 and the sound quality was excellent. I still have it to this day and it was worth the 50 bucks I payed for it. Gone is awsome as well, you are quite right. I wish they would play "out of control" and elcectric co. They are wicked live.

  • I remember hearing the story about the Pop album. It was their most ambitious album but because of time constraints being pushed on them it was never fully realized. I heard they were still recording pieces of it right up to the last minute. I would like to hear a special re-release of the entire album one day - remixed and finished the way it was meant to be. Because it was just never properly finished, and you can hear it in the singles versions of the songs and on the PopMart tour.

  • I also think its a tragedy and an indictment against the major record labels that they treat great musicians this way. They treated greats like Eric Clapton and George Harrison the same way. Consequently those guys started their own labels.

  • @iStevie I think POP was well mixed. I don't like the newer versions (especially Discotheque)

  • Definitely one of their best songs ever!

  • 3:38 Larry's great Idea with Sunday Bloody Sunday drumming (I don't know how to say it, because I'm Polish =D)!

  • This song it`s soooo powerful and yet so touching! one of my top ten U2 songs! and this`s the best performence of it! had to be in Latinamerica

  • u2 are easily one of the top 3 bands of all time. no one has a history of relevance so lasting and their music transcends "pop" music. No matter your music rtaste, you like at least one u2 song. admi it.

  • sublime !!!!!! *****

  • a legjobb u2 szám!

  • this is why they are the biggest band on the planet

  • Damn straight.

  • U2, Please, Please play this song every night on this tour. It's among your best live songs.

Oh, and Hold Me, Thrill Me, etc. too. Those two were the highlights of Popmart for me. They rock.

  • Comment removed

  • but after pop, no studio album is relevant, it just keeps the machine running.

  • No line is not so bad, moment of surrender and off course fez being born are "please like" i think

  • or just someone, u know, I didn't do anything but to stand still among the rest of them, the show went on, and I went walked out, the end.

  • I came to think of the million dollard hotel soundtrack which is one of their best records, and also b-sides.

  • forget about u2 after this record

  • i really do agree. the rest is for 'fans' - the last and the first time i saw the band I was up front in the heart-shaped box, everyone was having fun, i didn't, but i loved the music, so - at last my only wish was for bono to see me in the eyes, which he did. he froze for a sec you could actually see him concentrating, closing his eyes alittle, an assasin in the crowd,

  • I've seen some clips from their 360 tour. They've been playing The Unforgettable Fire and it sounds incredible - I believe their latest album (weather you like the album or not) does signal a return to creativity and what they are doing live is definitely a return to form.

You just never know, we might hear more greatness in them yet.

Heck, look at what Paul McCartney is doing now. I never would have expected it, amazing stuff. And if he can do it, so can U2.

  • i think they were quite right with taking a tv on tour and then a supermarket, concidering their music in eighties, and i mean the words and everything that was u2, they could confront our culture with those tours, leave an impression, now they have become that culture, and lost their relevance

  • i think they should simply remove the screens or stop preforming cause to me it doesnt make sense, remember the tours from the eightees, just a blank white background illumintaed with red. and the music.

  • No innovation = no creation

  • @forugh dude, these screens are what rock and roll are all about! being outrageous!

  • That's the truth. Unfortunately.

  • One of the best songs of U2 live, it seems that the song does not exploit at the end and Bono start to whispering "please" desperate to make way for "streets",awesome (sorry for my english =))

  • the best song ever

  • Probably the best U2 live song, very dark, it's like a conclusion to Sunday Bloody Sunday, but instead of the rebellious tone, it's now almost a hopeless one... Perfection

  • Very insightful comment. There is definitely a sense of hopelessness in the song, of burden, of resignation. Its a rebuke, an eloquent conviction, without any expectation that those whom it's aimed at are listening.

  • da brividi il finale con l'aggancio di Where the streets have n name!!!!

  • Oh man, this is great. I was at London, Wembley gig. Working as a steward in the VIP section. Liam Gallagher & Patsy Kensit (married at the time), Bjork, Naomi Campbell (who was engaged to Adam at the time) to name a few were all there. Good times

  • its beautiful but the screaming girls are kind of ruining the emotional part...:/

  • Please, Please, Please let the new album have the haunting, strange, goosepimple-inducing, loud, raw, contorted nonconformist qualites of Actung, Pop and Zooropa. The snippets I've heard so far don't sound promising. But I'll continue to live in hope

  • the album is not very good:( too much electronics:( the previous albums was awsome... especially joshua tree and achtung....

  • it's great. moment of surrender rips me apart and unknown caller lifts me up, whilst breathe grinds me down.

  • Mind blowing performance.

  • great emotional solo by the edge

  • yes, he isn't just alot of sounds, he's got feeling too....

  • @docauth It's the theme from "Smalltown Boy" by Bronski Beat.

  • the effects are ridiculous

  • in a good way

  • what year was this?

  • 1997

  • way ahead of its time

  • It was the biggest flat-sreen TV at that time!

  • It's still the biggest LED screen. I think that there's never been a bigger LED screen than this one. By the way, it was constructed by smartvision, a company from Montreal.

  • montreal sucks though

  • Why?

  • because people there are way too narrow minded... not all of them of course there are always exceptions but at least 90 percent of the people I met

  • TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU. AMAZING

  • the change of please to where the streets have no name is amazing!! the best part of the popmartttttt

  • the album version was plain but the live was out of the world. long live u2

  • 7:10 pure magic!.. The contrast in songs.. The magic moment on all the Popmart shows.

  • sister song to Sunday Bloody Sunday

  • Does this song talk about suicide after a hard love story or it talk about hard love only??

I think that,s song contains a precious message but it's not really the best song on POP. It could be for somebodies...

  • I think the song is a referance to the "troubles" in Ireland.

  • The BEST song on the 'POP' album!

  • What bout If God Will Send His Angels? And Staring at the Sun is great, too! And...let's face it, the whole album!!!

  • Your right, the whole album is great!

  • Maybe the best song u2'live

  • I didn't hear this song before with my full attention. I heard it on the DVD... I just realise what an awesome song it is.

The whole band is full of this song; Adam movements, the Edge concentration, Larry's drumming and Bono's emotion!

Cool performance at 03:28 - looks like disco :)

  • ......AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Simplemente espectacular...

  • this song...a beautiful one...play it again!!!! please!!!

  • U2, please, please play a full-throttle version of Please again next tour.

  • u2 please come back
