  • they had it all. horns, drums, great voices with incredible range, lyrics, innovation. Miss it all too.

  • Awesome song! This brings back SOOO many good memories! I was in high school when this came out, and among lots of other great music, this was some of the best of the best!!!

Does anyone have the extended version? All I've found on YT are the single (shorter) version and LOTS of live versions. Not that these aren't great, but I miss hearing the extended mix!

  • @RHutton2710 I think I will disagree with this .... just for the sake of keeping things interesting.

  • The horn and rhythm section rocks. This was pop music back in the day and I miss songs with REAL musicians and instruments being played

  • Yes, killer sax. But Dave Wakeling's chops are amazing!

  • Dave Wakeling is still touring as the English Beat... Saw them a few years ago. Sounded pretty good!

  • DA BEAT

  • One of my favorite songs of all time

  • Damn these lyrics are strong. "Just out of spite, I confess I've ruined three lives Now don't sleep so tight Because I didn't care till I found out that one of them was mine."

Brilliant song though, one of my all time favourites

  • Ohhhhhhhhhhh what memories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • love The Beat! brilliant musicians that all worked well together.....

    wicked saxa!

  • Beautiful

  • I've been listening to this on a vinyl record album that I bought new back in 1985. ;-)

  • I used to listen to this song on vinyl when I was little. Me and my mom would walk up to our local library, I'd play with the card catalog, and then we'd check out the record (Special Beat Service).

  • The sax in this song is killer! Where's music like this nowadays...I'd listen to it if they made it...and I'm 57!

  • @707BADDOG: well, it's a unique song. All masterpieces are; so there won't be a song like it unless its derivative.

If you want a modern classic, I'd go for Captain's 'summer rain'. The Sundays 'summertime' has a bit of brass in it too, so does Tribe Called Quest's 'Luck of lucien'.

  • @707BADDOG The trumpet solo is the rocking key here!

  • when i was 3 this was the only song i would listen to

  • I used to listen to this back in the 80's when I was in jr. high. good post.

  • Nic and Tristan lead me to this :)

  • @Sonjay718 that kinda how i heard it! except i was working in a deli and it was always playing 80's music. i stood there listening to the lyrics and went i got home i looked it up.....love it!!
