i love this movie so much, i watched it once but will never watch it again. I dont want my personal journey in life to influence my opinion about this movie when ik watch it again. ITs perfect as it is now in my memorie.
The brilliantly subversive thing about this film is that the heroine basically becomes a fundamentalist. She "knows" there is no other life in the universe other than that which is about to be obliterated on earth...and von Trier wants us to beleive her, to see her as a VALID angel of death. And she sez that "life on earth is evil." She is the embodiment of the universe according to van Trier--heartless and beautiful. Or it's his midlife crisis. Any case I'm seeing it again tmw.
I loved this movie, haunting and emotional feelings still linger weeks after seeing it; I find myself gazing into the sky to make sure that blue planet is not there!
@DVROFFMAN Same exact response from me. It was enragingly slow at times but I am going to see it again this week b/c one time was not enough to get a really good sense of it also b/c it's probably the last time I'll ever get to see that prologue on the big screen ever again!
A cena inicial de "Melancolia" (o mais recente filme de Lars von Trier), é das coisas mais bonitas que já vi em cinema: um casamento divinal entre as imagens oníricas de Trier e a maravilhosa música de Wagner.
I saw Melancholia in July when it played for a week in Los Angeles - right now, it's tied with The Tree of Life as my choice for the best film of 2011 - but I missed the entire prologue because of traffic (got into the theater RIGHT as Melancholia decimated the Earth).
Wow, this is purely amazing. Really made my day =)

Saw it last week. Loved it. Not sure why but I did. A few people walked out during this prelude. Did kinda drag a bit I have to admit.

@DVROFFMAN I was very unsure of this movie going in, but it was this opening scene that actually sold me in it. Different tastes I guess.

@DVROFFMAN What's wrong with people nowadays? Is it the ADHD-too-long-didn't-read-generation? This is so stunning and beautiful. Mezmerising.
