Thank you Dom for all the time and effort you put into your videos. I have learnt a lot from you and i'm sure others have too. Absolutely love your videos! so keep it up!
the photo with of the model wearing red dress. Is there any technique that would make the shadow behind the model to fade the away ?! would silver reflector help ?!
looking at those shots, I also think he couldn't have used an umbrella - the shadow edges are simply too "sharp". If he did, chances are he had the flash's zoom set to telephoto so it was not "filling" the whole 'brolly and also had it too far back. But even then, that should still have been some softening to the light?
Hey Dom, just wondering but what is your view on lomography? I'm getting a Canon 550d and a Diana f+. I've always loved the look but haven't know what it was, after recently finding out what it was I called I had to give it a go myself. Have you ever had a go at it?
I did not like the first 3 at all. Loved the next to last and would have been great with a logo. I like alot of the concept around the last photo but too busy for the subject. Needed more background blur.
I thnk the first shot needs more reatuching on the skin. Also, the first shot in the red dress could be quite interesting nude shot. Not saying it to be a perv or anything like that, but background + pose + model = quite nice shot i think
You can get harsh/hard light from any source if its too far away. If his flash was too powerful and he moved the umbrella back to compensate it would make the point of light smaller in relativity to the subject and create harsher light. Dom mentioned it as a possible reason but not really why.
I have not done any photos of models or used umbrellas but could it be that the the flash is overpowering the umbrella and thus the harsh shadows? I am not familiar enough with working with studio lights. Thanks
Dom, thank you so much for your video. It's amazing :)
Please keep up your good works.

Yes, the zoom on the flash isn't properly set.

First photo.. Maybe he also had the pop-up flash set to TTL instead of just commander if using the off camera flash wirelessly?

Shadows through an umbrella..the zoom setting in the flash is definitely off its mark..

I would have went with natural lighting with the one at the beach. Maybe a soft flash on the face but nothing more

@meltdownman1 Can't overpower a light modifier. No way he was using anything but bare bulb.

I think if it's not though a umbrella, the umbrella is maybe used as a reflector. I'm not an expert yet ;) so this idea could be totally wrong
fancynet 2 months ago
@fancynet It's the same surface no matter how you turn it.
