  • I figured most folks who are really into jug band music know that there are no rules, you can do whatever the hell you want, just like the early masters of the craft did.

  • This is amazing!

  • what is that thing your blowing into, not the harmonica, but the other thing

  • @RisinOutlaw21

I think it is a kazoo

  • Fritz used the glove and tape because he was fretting a piano wire on his washtup bass. Not necessary if you pull the stick and use a softer elastic type of clothesline.

Even then, it can cause blisters so tape may still be useful.

  • yes there is a wrong way , for Christ sakes!

  • The best way to do a box bass is to actually pull back on the stick using your body weight, and do not try to "fret" the string. If you build a wood box the same size as the swash tub, you get excellent resonance. It has to be solid plywood top 1/4 inch..

  • where is the jug ?

  • @countrybluesluver THe jug was at the end on the floor for one second, phew! Now we can rest at ease!

  • not all that big on the black and white and the corny ass blues look people like to give to their shit. but theres some soul in this.

  • WASHTUBASS, BANJO, KAZOO.. you just nedd WASHBOARD. good fellas.

  • very nice

  • where's the jug?

  • Imagine getting a disturbance call from the neighbor over a jug band I don't know what would happen to be honest.

  • is it me or ... slimpickens is doing everything while fatslappin plays the bass?...rofl my waffle! this is hilarious

PS @brandy1tis1my1name : must be "Jug band music"

  • Hey man, he would be nothing without that bass !!!!

Absolutely f****ing great video - sounds like a torn out good old 78record from 1930 !!!!

  • 5 stars --I dig your style ! --:)Rod

  • brilliant...thanks for that..

  • Excellent!

  • FatSlappin's, and SlimPickens, I'm digging your stuff. From Cush, you guys gotta good rhythym, a good blues. Thank you Picken's and Slappin's. Keep up the good work. And make more. Cush is waiting!

  • whats the name of that song??

  • Correct title is "Jug Band Quartette", but almost everybody calls it "Jug Band Music"--The Jim Kweskin Jug Band had mistitled it on an early LP that most people got the song from.

It was the last song the original Memphis Jug Band ever recorded (November of 1934 for OKeh/Vocalion).

  • how do you make that bass

    awsome

  • its great. if i couldn't see the thing i would think it was one of the old jug bands

  • Hay... if you wanna' play that washtub bass right... you gotta' use a glove on your "stick" hand with some tape and heavy cushoning wrapped around two fingers each. Use that to grip and stop the string like you were fretting. Just look up Fritz Richmond of the Jim Kweskin Jug Band and see for yourself.

  • @ThomasDeLello There's really no wrong way to play a washtub bass.

  • @BanjosInTheDarkroom -yes there is

  • yes there is!

  • haha, looks like fun!!!

  • excellente. that washtub player could probably sing too.

  • good job guys!

  • cool, i favorited this

  • where's harvey charlie and wendell?

  • Awesome!

  • Cool!
