It was recorded years ago by a first-time (only-time) drop-in student who tried to take video on the sly without letting anyone know. We found him out during the roda and convinced him that he should share his bootleg, he promptly did so and then we never heard from him again. Kinda funny.
not violent at all. the art of the rastiera (sweep) is a big part of what capoeira is, a bit of a lost art maybe, but definitely an integral part of capoeira. i would venture to say that players nowadays are far to concerned with doing the biggest acrobatic flips and throwing the fastest kicks. but a well placed rastiera is just as sweet. let's not forget how deep our art goes. not violence just game. so game on, o berimbau esta chamando.
Rasteira is definitely a massive part of regional. I play with a traditional school which means I get a rasteira (either fully executed or just marked) every second kick.
However, anyone can rasteira forcefully. The CM should be skilful enough to apply just the right amount of force to take the person down in a controlled manner.
On the other hand, the student has obviously been neglecting his negativa drills. They are used to catch yourself from falls/takedowns, not just to dodge kicks!
NIce rasteira. But where's the humor?
