I never understood why a whole fire truck responds to an old lady falling on a sidewalk. It seems like a non-firefighting situation to me. I would feel safer if these guys who sit around waiting for a fire...
Never understood why NYPD ESU does what a towing company should be doing. I wonder if its the only Dept. that does it? It seems like a non-police action to me. I would feel safer if these guys just stood by waiting for a real emergency. While their chaining up to this car with their unit, a major situation could happen in the area. What happens then? You send a tow trk driver to it? Does the NYPD right up over turned tractor-trailers? They should stick to rats & bats as seen on COPS tv.
I think you need to be re-educated in the field of Policing, not being a dick or anything, but are you a cop? If not, then I think you should stick to fighting fires. And no, they obviously don't pick tractor trailers up. Why wait for a tow truck when they have the ability to do it themselves? Get the street re-opened 15-20 minutes faster. If a major emergency arises, just unhook the car and take off.. It's not that complicated.
So sad you think policing has something to do with this scene. Re-educate my self ? You need to call the proper people for the job at hand & not tie up units trained for more important tasks. Just because they have the ABILITY to do it dosen't make it OK. Hope you don't live next to me & see my house on fire thinking you have the ABILITY to put it out with a garden hose. We have the ABILITY to get cats out of trees but we don't responed to calls like that anymore. U ever C a dead cat in a tree?

No this doesnt have anything to do with policeing.Althogh we can respond faster than fdny,which is mainly the reson they trained esu to handle technical rescue jobs.
Im not putting down the fdny,there great guys and get the job done all the time.I'm a volle myslf and have been an ff since I was 17,but we are trained in the same ways when it comes to technical rescue.

All fdny firefighters are certified first responders,sometimes an engine will respond before ems does.
