I don't buy the sales pitch of the UK trade promotion organisation. As for proliferation of small arms in Africa, the Middle East, South Asia...Basically everywhere hot conflicts are being fought right now...It's small arms that are doing the mass of the killing. The small arm of choice thoughout the world is the AK-47 and they don't come from the UK. The UK sells Tanks, Planes, Bombs, Ships...like the US. "Arms sales", but it's those assault rifles that are doing the killing, not the ships.

Regardless whether you believe what our government says, the UK is still the second largest arms manufacturer. Also contrary to what you have said the UK still manufactures small arms. We've got subsidiaries of Heckler & Koch, Glock, Colt and have at least 40 other small arms manufacturers that make small pistols to VEPR Rifles (based on Kalashnikov series).Then there's the leg irons, thumb cuffs and spiked batons that we produce and sell to countries that have shocking human rights records.

The fact remains: The single weapon that has killed more people in history than any other is the AK-47, Not the Glock. AKs don't come from the UK. You erect straw men and swim red herrings, but the fact remains, that it's those Chinese and Russian assault rifles, not the rest, that are the weapons of choice for the killers of the world.

The AK outstrips its nearest rival, the M-16 assault rifle, by 10 to 1 in terms of numbers produced. Of the 5 countries you listed, only China makes up the bulk of their arms sales with small arms. I couldn't even name a Japanese gun-maker post WWII. The real taker of lives here is the assault rifles machine guns, pistols and bullets, the bulk of which come from China and Russia. I'll say this again; those are AK-47s in the hands of those child-soldiers. The UK and US don't produce AKs.
