What's the point of using these when you can just use an airplane? It's pretty unsafe leaving a vehicle like that on the floor. Since the insurgents don't have anti air weaponry, it'd only make sense to just spam with airplanes. Man, some people are stupid.
A - Aircraft are about 50 times more expensive, and need to be refueled. Also, they are only useable for a few minutes, once they have dropped their bombs, thats it. An MLRS is so much easier to maintain and resupply, and it gives troops on the battlefield acess to lots of heavy firepower when its needed, not when the aircraft get there, or if.
Yes, they are probably over 50 times more expensive. But again, I'd be more worried about my infantry than money (after all, we're spending money left on right anyway on crap like banks and whatnot). Besides, we already have planes. Creating new planes wastes money, not using current supplies.
Furthermore, same with MLRSes; you must refuel them (they run on gas too, believe it or not), and once their rockets run out, they're useless. And they can't retreat as fast as a plane.
i am from a mlrs battery in the british army they run on diesel and are never going to be over run by taliban as they are so far back and they can be ready again after firing all 12 rockets in 25-30mins

this video is fakery at its worst , first off , the mlrs fire the rocket during the day time , and strike their target at night , which is why its it on a flir camera.secondly , the rockets that mlrs use have dpicms inside them and break apart above the ground spreading hundreds of sub munitions , not one single explosion like shown here. can someone please make a truely good video about mlrs before they are deactivated for good?

Well i do believe at sun down an MLRS could launch in day and hit the target to the east at night, but its midday in the launch. Im wondering if the aerial video is from a spooky and its guns. tank shells are 155mm and smaller 125mm. Russian Smerch is 300mm and atacms are somewhere there. I mean quite deadlier! I really like the US mlrs 270 or 280 with ataxms missile capabbilies with 950 explosive bomblets

Most aircraft only have a track and record feature throw their (IR) targeting pod. Second, there has been a unitary MLRS warhead since at least 2002.
