You can see that Blackie loves Anthony dearly. Being a Chili Peppers fan all of my life and listening to Anthony's lyrics tell me Anthony loves his dad dearly also.
Yeah, he wanted his son's life to be interesting, to be different, cause life is not just money and boring work and shitty life with nothing happening in it. Maybe it went a lil bit wrong, but it's the real life experience. Anthony had his struggles but he also have a life worth a book. So, it is what it is and I just love Red Hot Chili Peppers with it's all members lifes and music that came from it.
This is similair to Johns drug addiction. An experience in life that maybe should not have happened, but it happened for a reason. It it wasn`t for old Blackie there, things may have turned out very differently.
Man if this guy can't stop from crying.. some really hard stuff must be going down on him... Anthony just made music and tried to be the guy he wanted to ..
I tell you what, In life they say trials make a person stronger... Blackie might not have raised Anthony the way every other parent raised their child. But the bond between Anthony and Blackie seems to me to be unbreakable!!!! It's something really neat, I have a similar situation (Not so much hard drugs for either of us) but its something that you really can't explain... It's like your dad got your back!!! get some new buds in, Go n hook pop up right away.. Find sum hash, hook pop up!!
Spending tons of money on some body is the best way to express you're love for them... also Hollywood People and wanna be like Blackie here are just better than everybody else. Especially insurance salesmen.
When I read Scar Tissue (the book) I made a lot of judgements about Kiedis' father, like most other people. I still personally don't condone or believe in the choices he made as a parent, but I have to say that hearing his experience of it has put it in to perspective for me. He seems very genuine and sincere about his love and respect for his son. I am glad things worked out well for them both
What two beautiful, beautiful men. Beautiful and sensitive human beings.
Savoir has been the most powerful and influential song for me. SInce I was a young girl I would listen and cry. So strong when I heard him read the lyrics.
People have to start looking at the way Anthony was raised from Blackie's perspective. People in the sixties didn't see drugs in the light we see them today, back then drugs were new and exciting and there wasn't nearly as much stigma attached to them. I'm sure that if Blackie had been more educated about drugs he would've extended that education to Anthony.
Parents who get loaded with their kids are addicts in denial justifying their addiction. Blackie had no business being a part of Anthony's experience(s) with sexuallity or drugs. Mr. Keidis was a dick in the dirt heroin addict who by the grace of God pulled through. He has surpassed his father in so many ways and just as Blackie stated Anthony is the Father now, to a man who needs therapy/help himself. Go to an NA mtg before you die dude...look @ how pale he is...is he a walking corpse?
Blackie Dammett is living proof of that old adage---all parents make mistakes. Whether your mom or dad is a wild rock star or the clean-cut worker who puts in eight hours at the factory to feed you, they is bound to screw up with you at some point. While I abhor the ways Blackie exposed Anthony to danger, I don't doubt for a second that he loves his son. It's the strength of that parent-child bond that matters.
"Game plan" my ass ... that was the luck of the draw. Morrison, Hendrix, Cobain, Winehouse, HILELL SLOVAK!!! etc. game plan, shit, you almost killed him.
uhm im confused why is so upset, like ive read scar tissue and so ive a bit of back history, but still can someone tell me why he is so upset here in this clip? sorry for being dumb if it is obvious.. lol :P
In Anthony's book he said he never blamed anyone for his drug addiction, obviously his dad was an influence, but don't say that anthony blamed it all on his dad...
This is a beautiful man who made some mistakes raising his child but he also gave his son some amazing life experiences that i think really helped Anthony to become the man he is today. I mean what parent doesnt make mistakes raising kids? I do believe from those mistakes there was an incredible transition in their relationship and it only brought them closer. He is a great man a great father and it makes me want to cry when u look into his eyes when speaking about his son. So much genuine love.
What a sad, pathetic man. I almost feel sorry for him. But what he did to his son is not justified because the son wound up becoming successful and famous. How many more people exposed their kids to drugs and the kid wound up in a grave?
@duke0219 oh sorry ha, had no idea. well everyones entilted to their own opinion, i still liked him him as a father, but i can def see why people wouldnt like him.
Watching him cry and wipe his face and his nose with his hand, I was thinking "isn't anyone going to hand him a tissue or something?"
I don't necessarily agree with everything he did to raise Anthony, and obviously Anthony doesn't either since he blames his father for the drug addiction, but at the same time it all makes sense in a way, and everything he did was out of love. It made Anthony the amazing artist he is today.
I think that those are crocodile tears, because Blackie Dammett even says that he does not feel bad about anything that he did to his son Anthony Kiedis. Blackie even says why he thinks it was a good thing to let Anthony borrow his girlfriend at 11 years old to have sex with and do drugs at 6 years old.
It couldn't be the best without Frusciante. Mrs. Klinghoffer, is that you? Seriously, at worst, it could another One Hot Minute, and that isn't even a bad album at all.
blackies education was and is irresponsible. it helps to face his emotions, cause a lot of people seem to forget, including myself, that we all make mistakes.sadly he made mistakes in an age were its so important, were you grow up, anthony looked up at blackie, as stuffy as it sounds but he should`ve take over responsibility...i consider the aera they lived in, and drugs were the order of the day.it doesnt change that its totally bad, to give your 12year-old son some heroin...im caught in the mid
they were in a room, and blackie said:"you dont touch this!" of course anthony dont knew what it is...he just knew that it was apparently dangerous, which kid would be able to be virtuous?danger seemes attractive. so he snort it. his father knew he has done it and that he sin against the rules. he was too young to come in contact with such a heavy drug like heroin.the only accusation im doing is,blackie should`ve take care of anthony, and dont clarify a life that is unbearable.
I knew that whole story, but I didn't feel like all the typing and memorization. I'm not justifying Blackie's mistakes, but they're certainly not entirely to blame. Like he said, it would've been much worse if AK had become a midwestern insurance agent, lol... and all you real fucking Chili Peppers fans agree.
@shotterslife blackie didnt introduce him, he was in a room where everyone was snorting coke, and there was a line by the window sill the they said not to snort, when they left, he snorted it not realizing it was china white heroin, they thought he was gonna OD but he didnt
i know the whole story...read the comment thats two months ago, were someone asked me if blackie introduced him to heroin, and i said no. i think it was a simple misunderstanding between you and me.
An amazing interview, Blackie thankyou so much for giving us Anthony and I feel I have learnt to not let your regrets get the better of you..even just from watching this interview. Maddwag11..i couldn't agree more.
I knew that what people said about him was wrong. I understood why he did all that, why he didn't have any boundaries for Anthony. He wanted him to realize that the world was not a - happy - go - lucky place. That things were bad. I have a new found respect for Blackie. And anybody who thinks else, is a jackass, and don't know shit.
So cool to see what his dad is like. How emotional his father gets makes me understand where Anthony got all his emotions from that he puts into his songs.
You can see that Blackie loves Anthony dearly. Being a Chili Peppers fan all of my life and listening to Anthony's lyrics tell me Anthony loves his dad dearly also.

Guess what folks. If you buy expensive gifts for family members you claim as dependents,
it's a lovely tax deduction.
It's interesting that Blackie never got strung out on anything, but Tony spends years enslaved to drugs.
