  • This is actually an EXCELLENT science fiction movie for its time! Proves what an underappreciated genius Bava was. Phenomenal even! The acting, the effects, the locations, the backdrop are just terrific! The story evolves, the plot is great! I did not remember how good it was.

  • ……. "Don't touch his arm! It's dangerous!" … Another fine e.g. of great Italian horror cinema … Thanks for the upload, monster4josh … You totally rock ~ (•8-D

  • This ran in Cleveland on "Ghoulardi". I was all of seven and it scared the Bejesus outta me. I never forgot the icky blob and the grotesque efx. I searched and searched early VHS labels and finally saw it again in the 80's.

  • What I find interesting about this movie -- at least this far -- is that it doesn't look or feel very Italian. It more or less plays like an American genre piece of that period.

  • @drnilsson T'was the style then. Bava is renowned for being influenced by American films, particularly the Universal Horror Pictures. Look at Black Sunday, that's one big tribute to gothic horror films of the 30's and 40's.

  • I saw this movie when I was about the age of the little girl "Jenny" in the film. It gave me nightmares for weeks, and I never forgot the name "Caltiki". I was afraid to even say it. Thank you for bringing back such an old "friend". ^_^

  • For the era it was made in, the special effects are pretty good.

  • You are absolutely correct, monster4josh. Very under appreciated film. I used to watch it religiously when it showed up on local station creature features. That and Daimajin, LOL.

  • CALTIKI is truly underappreciated! I think Bava was probably the first filmmaker in Italy to attempt such a film!

  • @monster4josh Thanks for posting this movie! I'm italian

  • My aunt took me to see this movie probably around 1960. It totally scared the shit out of me. I've only seen a few times since then until a few years ago when I was able to find a copy on VHS. I've since converted it to DVD. I love this movie!

  • atbglen, I saw it also when it came out. I was six. It scared the liing crap out of me too. If anyone wants, Monsters In Motion has this movie on DVD.

  • This film is very graghic for its age! I definetly see some similarities between this film and THE BLOB. The 1988 remake of the blob definetly had to have been influenced this film too. The scenes with the haif digested victims look sooo much the same! So did the Blob itself. Thanks for posting!

  • This movie terrified me when I was little, my sisters used to chase me screaming KALTIKI!!!!!!!!!!! Honestly back then you probably could have scared me with an oreo cookie. I've been trying to find this for a long time. Thanks for posting.

  • Right on! Thanks!
