  • What song are you playing at 4:06?

  • best overdrive i have heard. period. i've had one for just shy of a year now. used it with two very different amps. the clean channel is a genius idea for the perfect blend. love it!

  • whoever is thinking of getting this pedal 100% truellly honestly recommend it! it is the most unbelievable pedal for 129 bucks wellll worth it u can hear the difference i promise

  • any tab for the intro

  • Wow! I need one of these!

  • Hey Andy. Thanks for the great demo. Out of curiosity, how much decibel boost does the "Sparkle Drive" offer?

    Thanks!

  • I use my sparkler as a boost for my OCD.....

    Great sound and well controlable...

  • I hear why they named it Sparkle Drive. Mixing in the Clean signal brings back the natural sparkle of the Strats tone.

  • Sparkle Drive vs Barber LTD SR?

  • is the sparkle drive good for a second stage overdrive, like layered with a fulldrive?

  • @SethAY68 Very much so :)

  • i can't stop listening to the first 5 seconds

  • best drive pedal ever

  • I just picked up this pedal today. I will post my review of this product soon.

  • This is quite amazing.

  • Great pedal, love these demos, great job---tasty playing, Andy!

  • Be great if you did a vs match between Sparkle Drive and Fulldrive 2.

  • I can't remember the name of the first song you played in the beginning...great demo, liked the blend thing!

  • @frenzexperiment The one i love REM

  • @frenzexperiment In the intro? It was REM's "This One Goes Out to The One I Love."

  • Hey, anyone tried a shootout between this and the old VL Overdrive?

  • Do you know if there's any kind of clean/distortion blend pedal which is more high gain like? Thanks.

  • @Jonjonbr Fender Blender.

  • @ItsA6StringThing I'm looking for something more crunchy but hi-gain at the same time. I like fuzz type pedals but i'm not looking for another one

  • @Jonjonbr pure drive?

  • would you suggest combining this pedal with a TS-808?

  • @azweizsongideas It's a TS-808 clone, with the addition of the clean section. If you like stacking two distortion pedals, sure?

  • this or a Mi audio tube zone?

  • Claudio Sanchez uses one of these

  • why cant you make br00talz attack attack in this demo nobody listens to buhlooz anymor this is a lame video!!

Just Kidding, PGS is the best.

  • can you power it with a 9 volt adapter instead of a battery

  • @beeyonson yes you can. it uses 9v dc

  • my favorite pedal in the whole world...

  • OO!! I Love this! What is similar to it? What is another GOOD low-gain pedal like this one?

  • how would one of these sound with an ac30?

  • @joshuarugg phenomenal.

  • I've own this pedal just 2 weeks ago and I love it

  • where is the heavy metal switch on this?

  • Would this work well with a bass? Or would it rob too much low end?

  • @Zevonfan524 the 'clean' knob actually keeps the low end level, making it one of the best possible choices for a bass overdrive.

  • I've used this pedal for a year straight. As a boutique man, this pedal surprised me. I don't think it'll ever be off of my board.

    peace

  • true bypass?

  • i dig

  • I knew it before, but I just have to say that - that pedal is just aawweeesome

  • i mixxed this up thought it was a overdrive pedal but acts mroe like a tube screemer :)

  • A tube screamer is a model of overdrive pedal made by Ibanez.

  • maxxing this out with a strat would it sound like jimi??

What pedal would be best for Jimi hendrix tone and of course adding a fuzz face.

  • You need the Univibe thats the awesome clean Chorus/Leslie effect jimi made famous on Little Wing. Also the Jimi signature Octavio pedal which is his distortion pedal with a built in octaver thats how he had such a heavy tone

  • see the Deep Trip pedals. BOG, Kryptone and Hellbender. ;P

  • To everyone who has responded, thank you guys. Obviously I can't afford a Bogner but since I DID get a Russian made Big Muff which is absolutly perfect for smashing pumpkins and queens of the stone age. I still mainly use my digitech metal master for coheed (though I hate it) and breaking Ben sounds pretty good through the Big Muff... I have found one thing the metal master is good for, and that is Rise Against.

  • So this wouldn't be a good DISTORTION pedal to use for coheed and cambria or breaking Benjamin? But the superfuzz isn't really distortion... It's just... Well, fuzz. What is a good ANALOG distortion pedal?!

  • This is one of the 2 MAIN distorshion Cluadio Sanchez of Coheed and Cambria uses. He also uses a Boss SD-1 or the super over drive. I Personally think cluadio may use The Distorshion on some of his amps being as some of them cost over $1200

  • claudio mainly uses the amp distortion on his (i think) bogner, but yeah, he also has one of these babys as a boost :)

  • What amp are you using?

Claudio uses a Bogner Uberschall for his main amp. He runs a ts808 tubescreamer to push it on the clean channel sometimes. The tubescreamer is analog. Ibanez even makes a TS808 Hand wired true bypass model.

  • "DISTORTION" nice correction- I don't know if it's analog, but I got a Satchurator not too long ago, and it's really versatile for a lot of different disortion sounds. I can get a "marshall" type crunch, some high gain shred tones, and even some overdriven Santana-type tones if I make the tone knob very bassy. It's worth checking out. Although for Breaking Benjamin, you might really need more of a "metal" distortion pedal. Maybe also check out a Boss Metal Core or Mega Distortion.

  • i bought one of thesse on ebay and i can't wait for it to come in!

  • Which do you guys think is better for hitting an already hot Marshall for a mid boost like a TS pedal. This or the Way Huge Pork Loin?

  • this sounds better and tighter, to me, than the pork loin.

    listen to this demo...

    super dynamic.

  • @richedie Pork Loin...... defiantly

  • my biggest problem with demo video's like these is when your testing an overdrive you should use the amps clean channel and then OD channel. When you use just the OD channel or even slight gain on the clean channel it doesnt really show the potential the pedal has because the signal is already dirty.

even with the "clean" mix this pedal has, i would still like to hear this pedal and the amp on clean.

  • Im thinking between this and MXR GT-OD. Which one i should take? Mostly to rock, blues, country.

  • go to the shop and play both of them. Then decede. That´s the only way of make a good choice.

  • this one!!

  • @PGuitarR from the stuff i heard the Mxr is a little more muffled and sounds a little compressed these two pedals are not very close together because this one is easier to make out the notes than the MXR so it really just depends on the type of guitar your using and if you want to have the noted clearer I would probably go with this one because its really versatile.

  • this pedal rocks. I turn all the knobs to 10, except the volume. Anything you put through it screams like a motherfucker.

  • haha jk, but seriously, even the tone knob ??

  • How do u know what ver I have bought one not sure if its 1 2 3 4?

  • songs please!!!

  • 3;38 wtf??

  • Great pedal proud owner 10yrs

  • I run one of these in front of a 59 Bassman LTD for dirt without having to find my eardrums later. Great tone, very transparent. Useful controls, nice bright LED.

  • I have one of these. I use it with a strat and a Fender blues deluxe. It's good for a dirty clean tone, but not enough drive for leads, in my opinion.

  • well for my Orange 30R sounded good !!! not great but good!!! if u want to sound like Andy here you need a GREAT GUITAR and an AWESOME TUBE amp!!!! lol!!!!

  • Does anyone know whether this pedal sound fine through a SS amp???

    Reply Please...

  • it wouldn't sound nearly as genuine as a tube amp because pedals are engineered for the use through tube amps. However, it would sound decent on a solid state but not as good

  • no, their not "engineered" for use through tube amps. everything else you said was true but saying their engineered for use through a tube amp is like saying a fork is engineered for use with only Steak, and won't work as well if you try to stick it in, say, chicken, or veggies. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about, I design, build and sell pedals.

  • Coolest pedal for a country..countryrock sound.Tele trough this is AWESOME!

  • would this sound good with a practice ss?

  • No terrible

  • I doubt it.

  • I've been using this OD for 10 or so years..

    My settings Drive 10 oclock

    tone 10 oclock

    blend 2 oclock

    level 2 oclock

My tube amp is already distorted and this pushes it into bliss.........I didn't like that guys tone near as much as mine, but my settings sound like the amp......

  • This or the maxon OD808?

  • maxon has more gain, but this has a clean boost.

i'm using both and they both have individualistic characteristics,

  • This pedal is so transparent, you barely need the clean blend.

  • THIS is an overdrive tone!

  • It would be nice to know what amp he is using!

  • Soho 65 Amp is what they were using back when they made this video.

  • What should I get - this or the T-Rex Moller?

  • Wow, those are two completely different pedals. The Moller, I would buy. Extremely versatile. You can get a clean boost, mix clean and dirty sounds, get pure rock distortion, and beef up a single coil guitar. It is worth the $280, IMO.

  • This must have been recorded with an SM57 before they switched to the Royer mic, at least I hope so. The sound doesn't have the depth that the ribbon mic gives.

  • i bought this pedal a few days ago from pgs..I think this is the perfect pedal for a younger blues and rock player..(im 21 which is young) There is older pro guitar players around here that think this pedal is just "ok". and i see why they that because it has compresson and what not. but for me its perfect! perfect blend of old tube screamer feel.. but with a modern twist..perfect for young guitarist seraching for vitange tone suitable for modern music?

  • The Barber LTD is tough to beat for low gain overdrive situations or a boost. For $119.00 it pisses on the Sparkle Drive.

  • Don't shoot me, but I play through a solid state amp (160 watt Peavey Renown) and this pedal does not sound good at all. It's most certainly designed to be used with a tube amp. To tell you the honest truth, I have a Digitech Bad Monkey OD pedal which sounds TONS better through my solid state amp, almost eerily like a tube amp. I just wanted to let folks know because there are quite a few of us that can't afford tube amps, and this pedal sounds hissy and thin through solid state.

  • I definitely think some pedals sound wayyy better through SS than tube and vice versa. I have a rocktron taboo artist that sounds kickass through my old fender sidekick 65 SS amp and sounds like shit through my fender pro reverb reissue tube amp. but I am still going to shoot you not because you deserve it but because I dont like being told what to do ; )

  • Funny Coppulor! LOL! But yeah, I agree it goes both ways for sure. I guess it really comes down to your own opinion, no single pedal can sound great through every setup. Part of the fun is trying it out for yourself!

  • Someone wants to trade me one of these plus a BD2 Blues Driver for my stock Squire Strat. Should i do it?

  • If you already have a decent guitar and you don't use the Squier then it seems like a fair deal. Sparkle Drive is around $130 new and a BD-2 should be around $80 new, so your probably getting your moneys worth. Really up to you and whether you like the pedals more than the guitar or not. Also make sure they're in good condition.

  • If you have another guitar that is good go for it

  • Yes

  • definitely. I'm assuming you have another guitar because you wouldn't any use for this otherwise, but definitely.

  • soo is this a good distortion pedal for coheed and cambria?! or should i look at the superfuzz for a wider variety of distortion

  • Coheed and Cambria, consider something like an MI Audio Crunch Box or Barber Direct Drive

  • try this or an ocd fulltone...claudio has both of these pedal on his rig and says he uses both = D

  • Hendrix sounding! like Wind Cries Mary tone at 0:17 and 4:12, Neal Young tone for southern man 4:00, almost the same tone as the beginning clean boost is awesome!

  • one i love, REM

  • Sounds more like Cowgirl In The Sand than Southern Man, but Neil is the greatest either way...

  • Zvex super duper 2 in 1 or Sparkle Drive?

  • i have this pedal, it is awesome, you cant combine it with anything and i love the clean boost. it seems to thiken everything up when you dial in that clean. the gain sounds really good too. its awesome!

  • i'm looking forward to buying this pedal...

did you mean ",you CAN combine it with anything..."

    love your homepage

    regards

    nostateofgrace

  • I love this pedal, I don't know why more people don't make pedals like this. The clean mix option is great, might be one of my future pedalboard passengers.

  • How much did you pay for yours, if you don't mind me asking?

  • Um...we are a guitar store.

  • Lol! I noticed that after I asked. Theres one on my hometown craigslist for $125.

  • its 130 new

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos Can I be a guitar store too? Does that mean I get the pedals for free? :)

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos nice answer lol

  • ahaha

  • At first you talk so fast you sound like those dog racing announcers. Lol. No,really though, it was a very helpful video. Thanks.

  • he did that prolly because of how brutally annoying it is to hear peeps do a demo/review and babbling on forever before actually playing the freaking thing. I noticed the fast talking at first and actually really appreciated it.

  • I appreciate the rhythm guitar playing in PGS video's, It gives a clearer view of how the pedal sounds, rather than playing a lot of blues licks.

  • What's the song you were playing at the end? :)

  • I love the sparkle drive. Great pedal.

  • when the clean knob is all the way up, will the gain knob have any affect? or will it just be 100% clean boost and it doesnt matter where the gain is?

  • You have the right idea. The Gain and the Tone only affect the overdrive signal. When the Clean knob is fully up, changing those two has no effect. There would be a lot less confusion if they just called the clean knob "Blend"

  • If I wanted to use this pedal with my ds pedals I have already, could I turn the tubescreamer gain off and just use the clean boost with my other pedal?

    I've just ordered mine :)

  • What I love about your reviews that you play chords so the viewer can really hear what the pedal sounds like. Most pedal reviews are done by some SRV wannabe noodling away. This review convinced to get this pedal. It's great!

  • this demo is very well done and explained in a very clear way. thank you.

  • that's pretty nice.

  • Your reviews are excellent and the video's audio quality is great!

  • Very Nice!!!!!

  • WOW! sounds like a clean amp and a dirty amp crunching away at the same time, sweet!!!

  • Does the clean work by itself? Like if you turn the Gain functions off?

  • Yes it does. The "Clean" knob on the Sparkle Drive is more like a Mix between the Gain circuit (overdrive) and the Clean Boost. If you just want a clean boost, roll the "Clean" all the way up. That's the beauty of this pedal!

    -PGS

  • okay, i've wanted a TS-808 clone (FD-2 or Sparkle drive) for a while. i later figured i had enough OD's, and a boost pedal is what i really needed. i was gonna get a keeley katana, but then i thought, the VDL sparkle drive is a TS clone AND a clean boost, AND it's cheaper...

is the VDL a good enough of a clean boost? if used right, can it push my Blues junior into some more gritty territory?

(fairly new to all of this, sorry :-P)

so, this or the keeley, according to my situation????

  • dude, i just got a vdl, and its more than good enough. the amp i'm using sounds decent, in my opinion a little mediocre(its a friend's), but the clean on this thing is magical, nay, angelic. GO FOR IT, especially on a JR.

  • Keep up the great demos, you are the only consistent reviewer on Youtube

  • Question, I am debating over the Fulltone Full-Drive or the Sparkle Drive. I really want a clean, compressed, almost pop guitar sound, less blues. Which pedal would you recommend?

  • ts9

  • sparkle drive is for you

  • Get both. I've got a Keeley Modded TS-9 and a sparkle drive. They both have their advantages..

  • just got an old fulldrive....if you can afford it...go for it. I like it, between a boost and a ts9. i play thru an ac30 and love that amp...i dont think this pedal works well unless you have a great amp to push, keep that in mind!

  • cool bluesy tone great demo
