This video definitely shows you a lot of Paul's musical background. He didn't get a single answer wrong in the drinking game and even though they only played 2 seconds of each song, he at least knew 2 seconds of every song that was named. Awesome.
@MrAriancoco It's because the Japanese respect the music and musicians more than Americans do... They aren't picky elitist assholes that "only listen to METAL". When you get to the point that Marty Friedman and Paul Gilbert are at you HAVE to find new outlets for your music to keep it interesting, and Japan has been very hospitable to them.

These guys (and John Sykes formerly of Whitesnake and Blue Murder) at the time found a big market in Japan, where they were and are still adored and respected for their talents. You have to remember that America completely abandoned 80s metal for almost a decade, and the amazing guitarists that went with it.
