Can't really compare them though, they serve different useful functions and it's a biased comparison because firefighters don't punish people and put them in jail. They also don't tend to beat people up or kill them (at least not purposefully).

He failed to do that. He should not be praised as a hero for failing at a task that was apart of his job.
