i like the miss america pageant a lot more than the miss usa pageant. it just seems more genuine and sincere in its mission to promote education and community service and the overall image and ambitions of a true american lady. it is just more classy and representative of the silent majority of young women throughout the country. i don't know, it's just my opinion but i like it a lot more than the over the top drama aka miss usa lol :-)

The disco version of "O There She Is" is absurd. They need to return to the original arrangement and find a male entertainer who is relevant with a great voice to sing it with purpose the way Burt Parks did. I am just so frustrated with the MAO. They just can't get it right. The need to hire a top New York PR firm to fix their brand. I would like to see Miss America return to the old format and move to Fox TV.

The Miss America Schlorship and Talent compition is not stupid. it is to help young ladys have good examples. i dont care if people want to trash pagents because i know they are to better the attitude of young women and to teach them that looks arent everything. and that its whats on the inside that matters.

How does this teach a good example? These are, after all, contest which value beauty and physical appearance above all else. Sure you can argue that personality is a deciding factor, but I can assure you if you threw in an model against a less then average girl with a great personality there would be a clear winner. This pageant does nothing more than embrace a dated gender code, and reward submissiveness and sex appeal. What type of example is that?

It's completely true. Personality is only a factor in the end when they are comparing two "beauties." Like ShadiTheGreat said, this is ultimately a superficial contest where "beauty" and physical appearance matters above all else.

The Miss America competition is not a beauty pageant, it is a scholarship competition. Holding the title of Miss America is not just about the crown and the sash; it's a job. In order to be a Miss America contestant, one must be beautiful as well as have a good personality, be intelligent, and have confidence. It takes a lot more than appearance to even enter into a pageant.

I'm sorry but I'm going to have to disagree with you here flowerhead.. I was personally in Miss Teen Illinois and by no means did it give me a better attitude on life. I have had anorexia for years and finally got it under control, this was the final test for me. Not only did this make me personally have huge body issues, but most of the girls there either did not eat, or threw up their dinner. Yes, it is fun and makes you feel pretty for a weekend, but it also really screws with your head.

People have become disloyal to Miss America because the product is different each year and for the worst and not the better. This pageant was know for beautiful hair, makeup and clothes on very poised beautiful women. Now they all wear pony tails and little makeup. I can turn to espn and watch that with beach volleyball.

Miss America is more of a scholarship program, where they have to have "platforms", volunteer, have a talent portion of the contest, etc. Miss USA is purely a beauty pageant; they don't need to have a talent or volunteer, or have gone to college, etc...

I love pageants but I see why Miss America continues to fall off....They tried changing it up and everything and what did they do? They chose a carbon copy of Miss America 2007. Some of the girls who were cut after swimsuit were unique and not the normal Miss America look and they got chopped. I'll prob watch it this sat if I dont forget but Im not expecting much

There is no talent competition for Miss USA. Miss USA also goes on to compete for Miss Universe. Miss USA is the sister pageant to Miss Teen USA and Miss Universe. The three title holders live together in an apartment in New York City.

I feel for the 1st runner-up. If you watch her, she is like, darn and she pumped her fist for a second when they called her. When she walks over to the group on the side she tilts her head to one side, like shucks, this stinks. My heart went out to her. I have been 1st runner-up myself then came back the next year to win the crown. Unfortunately with Miss America, you only get ONE shot. You make history or you don't. To come so close, gosh. Adios.

Without the wand (scepter), it looks like the pageant has been too modernized. A pageant needs a scepter and a crown. Sash is optional.
