Great performance at the famous Star-Club in Hamburg (see Beatles etc.). Never mind some vocals messing up. Jimi messing up sill sounds much better than other bands playing perfectly.

That's because he had a hoarse throat, dumb... I mean dogshit. They only forced him to perform 362 days out of a year. And quite a lot of these early shows, had two performances a day. On top of that, the whole recording is made from the PA system, so it's mostly vocals and drums, with whatever guitar and bass happened to leak into those mics.

If you were talking about him singing the wrong lyrics, that's probably because the song had barely been recorded in the studio and he probably didn't think the mostly German audience would know the difference between the right and wrong lyrics. So, when he realized he was singing the wrong verse, he just switched to the right one, and nobody there, noticed. Somewhere out there,there is a statement by Jimi, he once had a million lyrics to Purple Haze and had to trim it down to 3 verses.

The part I failed to mention,  is that this show was recorded on March 17, 1967 and he barely recorded the song just about 2 or 3 weeks before this and he said his original version had many MANY lyrics. I also wouldn't be surprised if Jimi knew most of this German audience didn't understand english and wouldn't know the difference if he switched the lyrics in a brand new song. Nobody noticed at this time, besides maybe the other band members. I'm saying Jimi did fuck up, but had fun with it.

Messing up the lyrics wasn't uncommon for Hendrix. In the 'Lulu' version of Hey Joe he actually sings "I'm goin' down...I shot my lady...and I forgot the words...gotta get outta here fast as I can". And that was 1969! Only adds to the legend.
