  • Stone Cold Steve Austin's favorite TV commercial and PSA of all time!

  • @adcuncil this is from 1988

  • guy: YAY ONE MORE TIME!

friend: NOT THE WHISKY! the whisky and you die

  • Since there's no disclaimer at the bottom, I guess it's okay to try this at home.

  • I remember this ad from my childhood. I was only a toddler at the time but it painted a crystal clear message in my head. I never in my life drank and got behind the wheel. I've always walked after having a few drinks, even though I felt okay.

  • NOT THE WHISKEY!

  • And then ryan dunn died

  • then stop selling

  • Do you have the ad with a still shot of a Christmas wreath that slowly turns black, set to creepy music?

  • i noticed they saved the Whiskey..good choice

  • my that was some toast wonder what they where celebrating

  • this was another good commercial in 1984 I had just turned 10 when I saw it

  • I remember when this was playing on TV back when I was a kid. Very poignant and thoughtful with a dash of creativity and humor.

  • Strong commercial. The European commercials are much more Graphic. Gives you a more shocking realistic image of the fact. Sadly.

  • How did they do that without getting cut?

  • @1977SOUTHERNBOY Probably "sugar glass". Common movie prop.

  • fantastic commercial, a shame it isnt still on the air

  • Friends Don't Let Friends Drive Drunk. I cannot agree more. Driving sober, or calling for a ride home if you're at a party and the guy who's supposed to drive you home has been drinking are much better ideas, and very smart too. I'm glad I choose to be a teetotaler, and like to drink soda such as Pepsi or Coca-Cola (especially Coca-Cola Zero).

  • Higher quality, please! Peace.

  • "Friends DIE from drinking and driving"

The way he says that is just so creepy, like it makes him happy.lol.

  • @bawoman The risk is simply too great for sober drivers to be on the road. Drunk driving will never stop. Stay off the road. Why risk being killed? Just avoid the whole situation. Sell your car, stay at home where it safe. Sober drivers should be ticketed for putting their own and their families lives in danger knowing that they could be hit and killed by a drunk driver. The risk is to great. For God's sake just don't drive sober. Friends die from driving.

  • Hope they wore eye protection. OHSA would have a heart attack if the proper PPE wasn't worn and probably assess a hefty fine too. What a wasts of good beer.

  • I think we can all hope for one thing...and that's that they used colored water while making this commercial so all that booze didn't go to waste!

  • Cheers!

  • I almost got run over by some drunk driver once

  • 4 people were boozed

  • OMG!!! I remember watching this in my grampa's apt. in the late 80's!

This ad ran for quite a while back in the day.

  • When you support M.A.D.D. and their U N C O N S T I T U T I O N A L roadblocks....everybody loses.

Those who would give up liberty for a temporary safety deserve NEITHER. - Thomas Jefferson.

  • @blazinNAKEDBEERz -I've never been to a MADD meeting, but it doesn't appear to be a bad thing. What unconstitional roadblock are you referring to? Working in court as an interpreter for Spanish speakers--not the only DUI offenders, I'd like to know how drunkards and immature, unresponsible people should be treated? Pray, tell me.

  • call a taxi and say to the driver to drive you home. and get the car back the next day.

  • coool:D

  • YEAH! Coommercial is great but oh so true!

  • Drink, drive = bloody idiot.

  • it's actually been scientifically proven that alcohol improves one's ability to drive and/or operate heavy machinery. one should always have at least thirteen beers/ twelve shots of 100-proof whiskey in their system BEFORE getting behind the wheel. alcohol steadies the hands and calms the nerves, reducing the risk of nervous tics/ itching and scratching while driving or operating machinery.

  • HOW STUPID ARE PEOPLE GET A GODDAMN TAXI OMG!!

  • most epic "cheers" montage EVAR

  • God that made me thirsty.

  • there was a commercial where there was party and a guy was leaving drunk to srive and his friend pressed a button and a monster truck crashed his car leaving him stuck...anyone know what it was

  • A toast to drink driving! *smash*

  • I'm eating Doritos now.

  • I don't mind it when people get drunk but as long as they don't get behind the wheel

  • I video responded with a safer way to get the message across.

BTW I remember the skeleton hand commercial, lol!

Anyway its more fun to walk when you are drunk!

  • me and my friends drink and drive all the time

  • Is that Doug Jeffers doing a voiceover?

  • I think the glass is sugar glass?

  • I would hope so

    Either that or fake hands

  • what if you dont have any friends?

  • hahahaahahahahaha

  • yaayy!!...let's not drive drunk but cut ourselves to death.

  • lol

  • That was really dangerous when they hit the glasses together. Could have got some serious cuts.

  • ...exactly what I was thinking (having done similar things to myself).

  • you really think they really smashed glass together? no..

  • Those are not real hands on the first two takes. Those are dummy hands. Look closely, you don't see any wrinkles. They used dummy hands to hold glasses of beer. And then they used pressure hydraulics to make them crash while filiming. Then they edit the shot in slow motion.

  • @DylanTh3Villian look at the hands i think they were fake

  • @DylanTh3Villian im pretty sure those hands are fake manniquiens...didntspell that right...

  • @DylanTh3Villian exactly what i was thinking

  • @DylanTh3Villian your such a mom :P

  • @DylanTh3Villian well image the damage it can do when ur actually driving drunk!

  • @DylanTh3Villian I was thinking that, too, LOL!

  • @DylanTh3Villian

Its breakaway glass my man. Specifically designed for breaking in scenes like this. just like in the movies.

  • @DylanTh3Villian Break away glass, it's very weak and doesn't hurt.

  • @DylanTh3Villian I LOL'd. too fucking funny.

  • It's so much cheaper to call a taxi.

  • How expensive is death?

  • what a waste of alcohol,

and its not true, i havent lost any friends and we drink drive all the time. fair play one of my friends has been banned, but we still speak to him

  • How would you like to be on a plane where the pilot is drunk? How would you like to be in surgery where the surgeon is drunk? Still ok with it? WOW; you are a retard.

  • lol

  • Nice commercial pretty effective

  • pretty effective until you're really drunk and decide to drive.

  • HA HA! Sadly true.

  • Somebody needs to make a video where they play this backward.

  • what a waste... of alcohol =(

  • the rescuing hand then goes and drinks!

  • drinking and driving is NOT a big deal I always pound a few brews before a road trip.

  • How exactly do you make that effect without injuring anyone's hand?

  • Sugar glass

  • candy glass I guess

  • Sugar/ breakaway glass.

  • It's sugar glass.

  • It's not as effective as the other ones that are like..

"oh well if you're just buzzed, then they're fine"

    "rly?"

    "lol no"

  • very powerful to young teenager (especially when they have a girlfriend.)

  • You shouldn't drive a car after drinking alcohol. Just plan to do one or the other, it's no big deal.

  • Oh wow....I remember this from way back when! Freaked me out as a child. Good work!

  • How do you spell pointless?

  • omg the creater of this have great mind

  • That would be so fun to do that at a party (providing that there were no injury involved). j/k, timeless commercial

  • Sacry but maybe it makes people rethink their actions...

  • fragile glass eh?

i really liked the ending. great message

  • wonder if you cut your hand doing that

  • What ever happened to the commercial where you don't see the woman who is talking about not drinking and driving until the ad is almost over. Then she tells you she is a victim, and you see she has lost all her upper-body hair. Was that banned? It was veeeerrrry poignant to me!

  • NNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO that was perfectly good beer

  • oh well you can lick it off the carpet floor

  • My father and I were in a head-on collision with a 17-year-old drunk driver in 1981. Our seat belts saved our lives, thank God, but my father had a seizure in the hospital and had to go on medication for many years afterward, and in more recent years, I've had to have four root canals and other dental work that have cost me thousands. It's such a cruel irony how one person commits a crime and the victims pay for it.

When you drink and drive, EVERYBODY loses!

  • @iswc27 aww that is so sad how you have had to suffer because of someone else's ingnorance.

  • I am dubious of the link between your dental situation and being in a collision - your father's seizure could easily be the result of a TBI, that is certainly true - but yes, your original point is excellent.

    Drunk drivers are potential murderers.

And they should be treated as such.

  • @iswc27 My grandmother died a few years later from injuries from an accident with a drunk driver.

  • @iswc27 I agree. Drunk drivers lose their privileges, and the victims have to pay for that crime too. It is unfair and uncalled for.

  • It is a Superb Classic Commercial.

I didnt see this Commercial for long time.

Thank you for posting this TV Spot.

  • Ok, who remembers that creepy drunk driving ad from the 1980s where 4 drunk people get into a car, and when the driver turns the key to start the car, the people suddenly are skeletons? I saw that one when I was around 10 y.o. it was the mid-80s, I believe.

  • This isn't really scary,it's pretty cool.

    :) Good message too.

  • its bad

  • That's some real fragile glass.

  • Such an insult for an alcoholics! XD

  • Great ad!

It's relevent, and to the point!

  • I remember seeing this ad on TV in the late '80s/early '90s when I was living in Colorado. No one in my family drinks much, if at all. However, this ad should make it perfectly clear that driving while under the influence is stupid. To put it simply: Don't be stupid.

  • thats why i dont drive when I drink. never. heck i don't even let friends drive after 2 drinks!

  • This ad used to scare the shit outta me, when I was a kid, growing up with alcoholic family members. Even now, as an adult, the screeching and crashing sounds send a chill down my spine. Makes me so glad I grew up to be smart enough NOT to get in a car with a drunk driver OR drive drunk myself.

  • Anyone remember the PSa for drug abuse which used the hymn of "how old am i now?"? It showed a woman on the screen staring at the screen. and she then got older slowly and then fell back as if she died. Probably the creepiest commercial ever. Only saw it twice. Anyone remember?

  • i'v heard of this commercial countless times but i'v been dieing to see because i'v never saw it

  • YOu mean the one commercial I just asked about? I have never been able to fidn it anywhere.

I also have been lookign for an 80s commercial where it has a veteren returning home and he sees his friends in a basketball court outside. He is on the other side of the fence. The veteran is a black man with a beard. I think it had to deal with homless vets or something like that. Anyone remember?

  • I remember that on too. Didn't he have leg braces on too?

  • and I also remember that his name was Bill(I don't know why I remember, I just do;D

  • Yes, I remember that one (the birthday song/ pretty blond girl/white sheet),saw it several time as a child and I agree it is by far the creepiest of them all. That's probably why its no where to be found on the net! It ran on television from 88 to about 92.

  • for some reason...

i always found this commercial to be oddly soothing, almost hypnotic...

  • used to scare me. Strange thing is I like being scared sometimes.

  • Thats just a waste of Wine.....drink it then drive it up!!

  • hahaha wow

    nice one

  • Scary. WOW.

  • NICE

  • Wow!,I was 4 years old when this aired!

  • I remember this back when I was a child! Thanks for posting! :-)

  • When I was still 3 years old, I use to laugh at this commercial since I thought they crashed their glasses on purpose. But when I was in 10th grade, in my health class during the topic of tobacco and alcohol, this PSA was shown to us while watching a drunk driving documentary. I think if this PSA from the AdCouncil would be shown again on television today, it would probably bring more awareness about drunk driving.

  • they do this commercial using high speed cameras

  • makes me want a beer

  • I love this classic video.

  • I remember this commercial when I was a kid. I wonder do they have a shorter version of this commercial.

  • There WAS a shorter version of this commercial, and they showed the shorter versions more frequently then. They also changed the slogan later to "Freinds Don't Let Friends Drive Drunk", which was the AdCouncil's slogan from earlier commercials.

  • Do you ( or anyone) happen to have the shorter versions of these commercials (besides the shorter "skeleton" commercial)?

  • Oh, the humanity! ALL THAT BOOZE! WASTED!

But seriously, though, this PSA seems more effective than the newer ones. Recommission this one, and show it on national TV once again.

  • LOL the dood at the end is like

FUCK NOOO DONT WASTE ANY MORE BOOOZE!

  • lol

  • LOL!

  • I remember this one from the mid-80s...actually have a shorter version on tape that only has the beer mugs colliding.

  • I remember the one with skeleton arms.

  • The skeleton arm short played a lot when I was little, thrown in commercial breaks during afternoon cartoons. Scared the hell out of me.

  • Adcouncil's commercials are not only pieces of vital information...they're pieces of HISTORY.

  • Damn, I remember this from when I was little.

  • Me too!

  • me too!

  • It makes me thirsty! I think it has increased the sales of beer every time they aired that ad!

  • i saw this ad in 1986

  • i rember this psa it was my favorite one

  • Yes, it is very memorable. Very dramatic, but simple and the point is made.

  • I don't know why, but this psa used to scare the crap out of me as a young kid.

  • I haven't seen this in about 10-15 years, and it just creeped me out big time.

Classic commercial, almost 25 years later.

  • This was my favorite PSA, past or present. When I was young, I loved seeing the glasses crash. I also understood the importance of the message; I will never, ever, EVER drink and drive.

  • How many drinks do you have a week anyway?

  • None. Especially when I know I'm going to drive.

  • One of the best PSAs ever made. It continues to inspire me to the present day. Peace.

  • How many drinks do you have a week anyway?

  • Um, I don't really drink that much, but my senior-thesis film back as an undergrad was a parody of this, which is one of the many reasons why I find this PSA influential. Peace.

  • Your and cosmowanda's reply confirms my theory that those who are not attracted to alchol are those who are the most careful when it comes to drink and drive. Those who are heavy drinkers care much less about others' lives.
