That is to say that there are no long term anomolies to be found in current avarage tempratures.Look at the last million years and you will find that trend analysis even shows the start of a global cooling period. Causation was explained before any warming was observed. The majority of science predicted warming despite claims to the contrary.Ice Albedo or dark surface energy retention lags temperature just like co2. The ice needs to melt first. That does not prove that there is no energy retention. In fact it works based on scientific laws. The 800 year lag after ice ages was fully accounted for in the accepted science. The tipping event coming out of the last ice age had multiple forcings.

@cristop5 It isn't that the evidence for CO2 being a warming agent is flimsy. Its not. The problem is the overwhelming complexity of the entire system, which makes modelling it prohibitively difficult....and makes drawing conclusions from the data a dangerous affair. It has yet to be proven that the carbon contribution of humans is a significant variable in overall temperature (although it is assumed in many papers) - even the chair of the IPCC has admitted this. AGW is still a hypothesis.

The models are not perfect but they're pretty good. If you do not include carbon gases in your model, you cannot account for observed climate changes since the 1970s at all.

@cristop5 As to your first question - there are many weather stations whose data are discarded by the IPCC for various reasons. Most of these come from cold climates. In one report, out of 4500 stations globally, only 1500 were 'acceptable'. I have no suggestions for improvement, but it seems the data gathering could be better.

I said 'when can we expect the hypothesis to turn to theory?'. He said: 'there's simply too many variables to create a predictive model'.
