Beyond that point, The freeway is not built to Interstate Highway standards and thus does not get the interstate designation North of I-10. Which I think is sort of unfair considering how many interstates in NYC that are even *below* subpar in their engineering and design based on modern standards, interstate or not.
@PanzerVIZeke: Very good point. Driving around NYC was certainly interesting, but if I had to live there, I'd honestly just take the trains and subways. It's too much of a hassle to drive there, from a commuting perspective with its super subpar "freeways" and parkways.
By the way, I plan on re-recording I-110 with the new camcorder very soon. Just waiting for some clear weather (as in, no clouds at all). Did you get a chance to watch my I-210 West video from Pasadena to Sylmar yet?
@Coldtrafford: Thank you! I would highly advise that you watch my newest video (I-15 North thru Arizona). Totally new presentation and annotation style that I think you'll enjoy a lot more. Anyway, thanks for watching and enjoy your visit to LA.
That's pretty crazy traffic ya'll have there. I live in Florida (a really small town at that) I've been to Gainesville and Jacksonville and that can be a bit confusing. Often times, I hate that I live in a small town and how there's not a lot to do but when I see traffic and freeways like this, I appreciate that it takes me only about 30 minutes at the most to get from one side of town to the other. IDK what I would do if I had to battle traffic like that even during the weekends!
@KMJ921: Ha! Well, I suppose you just get used to the traffic, after awhile. Gainesville, that's a pretty neat college town (wish I would've filmed a short street tour of their downtown). I do have some Jacksonville area videos that I'll be featuring in the future. Thanks for watching.
@twilightrocks56789: Being as unbiased as I can possibly be, the "High 5" indeed covers a larger area. However, the approach along southbound I-110 to Interstate 105 is probably the most impressive approach to any interchange in the world; flyover ramps for every connection, *including* HOV flyovers in the median to both directions of the I-105 HOV lanes, and vice-versa from the I-105 HOV lanes to the HOV lanes, north of the interchange along I-110. It's unlike anything else I've ever seen.
@Imkillinit408 im not sure i would call this freeway katy like . 110 is mostly undergrade , katy is at all times above grade , but they both feature some of the same design , and the greatest interchanges on the planet
I agree with SUPCV2, the I-105/110 interchange is freak'in impressive. Also, the HOV lanes used on this freeway has no equal. From HOV only ramps, to elevated HOV lanes in the dense areas to save space, the HOV lanes on I-110 rapes, kills, and puts other HOV lane systems in a shallow grave.
not only the hov transition flow through the interchange .. the fact that the south view of that interchange would be mind blowing .. hope i get there very soon to see tis freeway
@ScrewdUPClickV2 Yep! And I'm willing to bet you will see it in many films and TV shows over the years, because it IS in Los Angeles after all! LOL And plus I could swear I've seen it before in stuff....
Great video, this video makes me wish profusely that I-290(which starts in downtown Chicago, and cuts west into the west suburbs) could be upgraded with HOV(or heck, even HOT) lanes, like I-110 has. I hate how much of a crappy record the Department of Transportation in my state(Illinois) has when it comes to upgrading and building roads when they are needed to reduce congestion throughout the state.
Videos like this show how Cal does a great job of building roads. Texas has a good record, too.
When I lived in LA, I used to drive on the 110 often btwn Long Beach and Koreatown, where I lived. When I had passengers, I used to gun it up to 100 on the long viaduct and repeatedly say "earthquake" as we drove on it. I freaked out my passengers, but luckily there was never an earthquake when I drove on it. Thanx again FreewayBrent for keeping my Southland memories alive, I'd love to see your 405 videos. Take care.
Haha, nice. Yeah, sooner or later, I'll finally get around to uploading my I-405 videos. When you have over 350 videos in the vault, waiting to be edited, it's really hard to choose which one to work on next!
Also, apparently, this is the interstate that legendary drug dealer Freeway Ricky Ross was named after (since CalTrans' widening of the Harbor took it right through his house).
- At 5:33, I've noticed on Google Earth that this appears to be a ghost-ramp of sorts. It looks as if CalTrans was planning to have a southbound flyover connect here, but it never happened.
Is that the same interchange that was featured in the movie Heat?

Where are the street lights on California freeways? The interchange while big, is no where near the magnitude of Houston interchanges.
Thanks for the video though :)

Heck yes! that was an epic interchange it was perfectly placed at that part of the song!!! LMAO @ CHP alert

I have a question, why does the Interstate 110 ends and becomes a California Highway?

you know over the past couple of weeks , i have come to accept the fact that the 105,110 interchange owns .. no contest ..
Texas bows down to that interchange ..
it may not be the biggest .. but it is defantly the most impressive ..
