:) Such a typically English reaction. A man cracking a mirror, having no reflection, and telekinetically moving doors, is perfectly fine; but wolves?! Lord, no!

I don't get it why people complain that they speak Romanian and not Wallachian. It's set in XIX century, and even if Dracula and co. are from XV century they accommodated changes in their language, as we do through our life.
@serj2008 Do you mean the poinjt with the Hungarian accent? Have you ever watched the 1931 "Dracula" film starring Bela Lugosi? He WAS a Hungarian, and he sounded very similar to this...
By the way, I'm not the only one who thinks like that.
And why do you call me stupid - just because my opinion isn't the same as yours?! Maybe YOU'RE too stupid to know that this is very impolite and can hurt a lot!
@Desmodontinae10 Gary Oldman is a very smart actor and I know that he has seen the Lugosi films. He may have been speaking in a Hungarian accent more as a tribute to the older actor than to pure accuracy. Or even if not, I doubt there are many language coaches to teach how to speak like a Medieval Romanian royal speaking English, lol.
I'm sorry, but I just don't see why everyone is hating on Keanus acting? Can someone give me a example from the movie and explain why he sucked so much?
D'you know what is really amazing? when the scene, without DADAM! makes your hair stand, just watching him delivering his lines covers you in fear... This is on hell of an acting performed by Gary Oldman! And definitely the best movies in this genre i've ever seen!
@LilWayneMetalGod Let alone the fact that Dracula came LONG before, and has far far more deeper meanings and deeper symbolism set in its pages than Twilight ever will. Twilight hardly even scratches the true surface of what vampires truly are, and that is not an exaggeration. I am not a Twilight-hater, I see why some people like them, but there is no way anyone can claim it is superior to Bram Stoker's Dracula, neither can any sane and well-informed person claim that Stephanie Meyer.
@verylittleknowledge if you haven't check out some of bela lugoci's stuff as well. one of the original Draculas. =) and GL on your audition (if you haven't gone already).
the whole movie should have just taken place in the castle, like seriously, what a set piece, the atmosphere, tone, the dark setting, the design on the castle, everything about this dracula and the castle is perfect 100%. and it all went to waste.
@chuggyman1 Man , I agree , what took you so long to recommend such ..you should have offered this suggestion back in 1992 when the movie was still being made . Where were you ? :)
Can someone please explain to me why mina feels such a deep connection to Dracula from the moment they meet? Does she have anything to do with draculas wife from the 1400's? Or does she simply resemble her?
Love this film. Just watched for the millionth time. The play of light and shadow is extraordinary. This is my favorite performance of Mr. Gary Oldman. Excellent. doug
@thelurker008 i suppose he wasn't drunk, they started shooting when he became sober and it was late at night, so the crew got the proper feeling for that scene;) i read that somewhere, but i can't guarantee
@nymetsfan9121 Truth to be told, I've never read the original novel. But I doubt Bram Stoker described Dracula as a seudo drag queen with hairy boobs on his head.
@Mazmorrero2 i wrote my school research paper on the original novel, this one was the movie tht stuck closest to it but it did get a few things wrong. plus that was how dracula was described in the novel too
@Mazmorrero2 There was no romance whatsoever between Dracula and Mina Harker in the original novel, if that gives you some idea about how much this movie strayed from the source material. She and Jonathan Harker were deeply devoted to each other in Bram Stoker's story. I laugh whenever I see people on these vids comment about how Coppola tried to stick close to the source material when this movie is absolutely nothing like the novel at all!
@Mazmorrero2 No, not always. I think Peter Jackson was quite faithful to J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Lord Of The Rings' when he made the movie trilogy. He only changed certian things to fit the story into a movie's running length, but stuck pretty close to Tolkien's story without taking too much artistic lisence. Certianly much more faithful to the souce material then Coppola was with Dracula. And you're right about Keanu Reeves. He's the most talentless actor in Hollywood history.
@44excalibur True, story's changed to a romantic note. But the way of telling it through the diaries of the main heroes is a straight reference to the original novel.
@RatSitnov Yeah, but by changing the story, the references to the diaries are taken completely out of context. If you make it Dracula's story, then what's the point of even trying to make it seem faithful to Stoker's work? It is Jonathan and Mina's story in the novel, and retaining the diaries and some of the novel's elements while superimposing a romantic Dracula story on it just makes it confusing.
@44excalibur Matter of taste. I myself don't get why Stoker name is in the title, but I think that movie has the spirit of the original book in the non-romance plot parts, because of all of the other characters, Lucy, for example, and some small details. Also, in the ''Making of...'' creators said they felt Dracula's image as a monster was overused and they tried to give this character something new. That was a clever move, it was never done before in a Dracula story.
@RatSitnov You're right, it shouldn't have been called "Bram Stoker's" Dracula. I heard that Coppola originally wanted the title to simply be "D" but the studio wanted something recognizable. I prefer the 1977 BBC version as it is the most faithful to the novel.
Oldman was aweful in this movie, but it's a really bad movie so you can't really blame him. I think Reeves was the best part. Winona is cute but she sucked ass too.The whole movie was just too heavy handed. My heart goes out to all of the actors involved in this mess.
@justintyler1370 WHAT WERE U SMOKIN'!?!?! OLDMAN WAS AMAZING AS DRACULA RYDER WAS HOT AND WAS PERFECT WITH HER ACCENT I HAD MIXED FEELINGS FOR REEVES THOUGH...I THOUGHT THE MOVIE WAS PERFECT AT LEAST ITS NOT TOO ROMANTIC LIKE TWILIGHT. TWILIGHT SUCKS BIG TIME
This definetely beats out the twilight series, hands down! I really admire Bram Stoker, and the outstanding performances of these great actors! Great job Francis Ford Coppola!
OUTSTANDING is the word with this film, from the advert's i've seen of Twilight never watch the series it's trying to be too much like Buffy, they never will they don't have Spike.

i saw this movie last week after finishing the book. pretty good. i like how the romance was played differently in this. it was better. Gary Oldman pulled this off real nicely.
Come on people! Stop messin with Keanu. Is he one of our great actors? NO, but he is sufficient. I mean he can draw crowds to a theater that's for sure.
People are hacking on Keanu Reeves, but they probably couldn't even pull off this role in a highschool play. Talk is cheap. Reeves is a movie star. The people cracking on him aren't.
@mar27sha27 I disagree. Keanu Reeves has done nothing relevant since Constantine. And he's not a box office magnet, both the Matrix movies and Constantine drawn people to movie theaters because of their stories, not because of Keanu Reeves.
@mar27sha27 Agreed. Ok, he aint all to hot in Dracula, but he does the job. And when your punching against Oldman and Hopkins - with better lines - there aint no winning.
This movie and Diary of a vampire are the best Vampire flicks hands down .Twilight and all the other wannabe vampire flicks are the Hercules (kevin sorbo) of vampire flicks
Sorry but Anthony Hopkins' clownish scene-chewing in this movie makes Keanu's toxic acting look like Laurence Olivier. (Still one of my favorite horror movies ever.)
vampires didn't kill that baby, they died from being near keanu reeves toxic acting performance long before they were eatin. seriuosly why did a baby have to die? great shock value in a movie where you get a canadain surfer dude to put on a fuckin terrible english accent. but thank god they knocked off a baby to make it more realistic
First, Reeves is Hawaiian, not Canadian. Second, This is "Bram Stocker's Dracula", based on Stokers novel. Both of these scenes are taken directly out of the book. You can thank Mr Stoker for the baby's involvement, not the people behind this film.
Please do not be so careless with your comments in the future.
dude, i was really stoned when i posted that comment. sorry i havn't read bram stokers dracula. and keanu got his "acting" training in canada. so his terrible acting is our cross to bear...I'm sorry my editor didn't catch the errors in my youtube comment....chill the fuck out buddy
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
There are three good things about twilight when compard to this movie.
1. twilight does not feature keanu reeves in a leading role (this is key)
2. twilight does to goth what the jonas brothers do to rock and miley cyrus does to the womens movement...at least we're all on the same level...above poser douchebags
3.although hairstyling and acting are poor in twilight, they are not the rape of a craft presented in keanu's accent, and dracula's double beehive haircut...what an awful movie..
The books are good, I've read them. But the films are absolutely crap! They don't do the books justice, luckily i've only seen the first film and realized what a truck load of shit it is!!!!!
best vampire movie

@mar27sha27 I disagree. Keanu Reeves has done nothing relevant since Constantine. And he's not a box office magnet, both the Matrix movies and Constantine drawn people to movie theaters because of their stories, not because of Keanu Reeves.

@mar27sha27 Agreed. Ok, he aint all to hot in Dracula, but he does the job. And when your punching against Oldman and Hopkins - with better lines - there aint no winning.

@mar27sha27 He is one of our great movie stars for sure.

My God!! Oldman's face at sec. 00:54.... that just deserts an Oscar!! Awesome!!

Keanu reeves is like " wooooaahh " in every movie , he has no talent just like a vampire has no reflection .

This movie and Diary of a vampire are the best Vampire flicks hands down .Twilight and all the other wannabe vampire flicks are the Hercules (kevin sorbo) of vampire flicks
pencon61 2 years ago 6
hell yeah! this is the real vampire shit! Not like twilight. to much drama and needs more volience like the anime series Hellsing!XD

that was cool how he broke the mirror... = )

Turnsy42 2 years ago

This comment has received too many negative votes show
There are three good things about twilight when compard to this movie.
1. twilight does not feature keanu reeves in a leading role (this is key)
2. twilight does to goth what the jonas brothers do to rock and miley cyrus does to the womens movement...at least we're all on the same level...above poser douchebags
3.although hairstyling and acting are poor in twilight, they are not the rape of a craft presented in keanu's accent, and dracula's double beehive haircut...what an awful movie..

There is one good thing about this movie when compared to twilight.
1. It is not twilight.
omgteetman 2 years ago 7
that is fair, i wasn't trying to actually compliment twilight. that movie is as lame as keanu is untalented

The books are good, I've read them. But the films are absolutely crap! They don't do the books justice, luckily i've only seen the first film and realized what a truck load of shit it is!!!!!

I hope Bram Stoker's Ghost attacks everyone associated with Twilight.
