jacroteach, I agree with you 100%...but teachers who are not trained in cooperative strategies end up doing more harm than good. Pushing students into groups of four and giving them assignments to "work together" on usually results in the motivated students getting all of the repetitions (the ones who do not need the reps), and the unmotivated students not getting any of the reps (the students who need them the most!)...I am just advising teachers to get trained before trying to implement.
Hey, I teach interns about cooperative learning... and they are good! So be sure you are not discouraging good teaching when there are ALWAYS better ways to teach other than lecturing! We all know only 10% of learning happens from lecturing! ~
