  • Something so true about this movie is that we musn't take food for granted.

  • @xApricityx -- Unfortunately, we do take it for granted...very much so. Do you have any idea how much fresh produce grocery stores throw out simply because of a superficial blemish...and can you imagine how much more they throw out because it goes bad before it can be sold? Do you know how much food is wasted after it's purchased, both privately and commercially? For that matter, do you know how many human food species (both plant and animal) have become extinct? It's insane.

  • An American man stayed with me for two months in Paris, France last year. He had never eaten real food before, it seemed. I had to get him to slow down, to chew, to savor. It was sad -- also, like so many Americans, he had bad teeth and was in VERY poor health and a drifter. I am American-born, so this was sad. I saw this movie when it came out. Never forgot it. The oceans really are dying and will be finished in 5 years.

  • @slobomotion He Einstein did it occur to you that him being a drifter explains his bad teeth, poor health, and shoveling down the food? Americans are fat, sure, but we've got good teeth and and very healthy (for fat people).

  • @shakybarnes He lied to me since the '80s, in writing even, about his situation. It is likely he is developmentally disabled. I cured him of his stammer while he was here, got him glasses, took him to doctors, got him cremes for the fungus on his skin and nails, and so on. Please check out the video BRUCE HEALS to give you some idea. I caught him in so many lies, and apparently, he has done this to many females. He also turned out to be a rapist. I feel sorry for his victim.

  • RAMEN NOODLES ARE PEOPLE--- lol

  • let's take another chickenburger!! Bon Profit!

  • I live in France now, from the USA, and wow, do we appreciate food over here! I cook from scratch and appreciate it all, something I never knew much in the USA. Taste! Chew! Swallow! Take your time! And a siesta! Uprated.

  • @CuteCatFaith

    C'est joliment résumé :)

  • @Helvanic Merci, je trouve que c'est vrai. On mange "peu" ici, mais, en priniciple, mieux. On espère! J'aime les repas simples ici avec des bons choses artisanales. Locales. Beaucoup appreciés! bises

  • that isn't soylent green, it's lettuce

  • SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!

  • Exquisite music!!! Exquisite and grim film...? Yes! I watched with my sisters when little...and we still talk about it...

Oh for a Sunday afternoon around a Radio-rental TV again with the family all together AFTER eating our Sunday roast!!! : )

It's a bit reminiscent of watching 'Oliver' all those years ago...it was always screened Christmas Day...post lunch hour...probs to let the guilt set in!!!

Excellent choice of clip from a memorable feast of a movie : )))

  • that's not soylent green! that's the normal food they only got to eat once during the whole movie!

  • Imagine a world where eating plain leaves of lettuce is considered a luxury...

  • Not worth living in this world if eating a simple meal for dinner is a luxury!!!

  • OMEGA MAN WAS HERE - TO THE BETTER DAYS WHEN THERE WAS FOOD

  • I heard that they're actually making Soylent Green wafers to sell in stores. But don't worry. They ARE NOT REALLY made of people like in the movie, they're jusrt a green colored wafer.

  • in an episode of family guy something like this happend but whit the cool whip cuz' meg baked a pay 4 brain with hear in it and then stewie came and ask for a pice and he coudnt say right cool whip and brain get pissed and said YOURE EATING HEAR!

  • @Sweetcuppcake30 What is "hear"?

  • I dont think they are eating soylent green rite in this scene.

  • This was Mr.Edward G.Robinson's last movie..he died during the filming of"Soylent Green".

  • @TheStanbabe - He died twelve days AFTER the filming, but told Heston he was dying so that Heston's reaction to Robinson's character's death was more emotional.

  • Were closer to this than most people can immagine " eating people". we're already eating bugs like the cochineal beatle that is made into red dye called: carmine.

  • @tonkinshipwreck69

People have been eating bugs since the dawn of man.

  • @LordBelial2223 true that, but not knowingly today

  • @tonkinshipwreck69

In first world countries perhaps, but unknowingly eating bugs is far off from unknowingly eating people. A lot of products that we consume contain insects that slip into the product during the manufacturing process.

  • @LordBelial2223 That is true. I saw a show called "The Doctors" the other day and it is basically a panel of docs talking about different issues and they were talking about processed food. A certain amount of insect legs and antennae fall into the food while it is being made in factories and it passes the FDA and ends up in our stomachs and we do not even know it. Gross!!

  • Now stop being silly and eat your people. You know there are starving people in China that would love to have that.

  • AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! CANNIBALS!!!!!!

  • Half the people posting here need to actually watch the movie.

  • @devious21 I would say all the people, these comments are incredibly dumb.

  • To think the japanes this past week had a news release... "New Meat" from Human waste... google it. YOU may be eating it already.. walmart would be a prime customer I bet RALPHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • Pass the earlobes please :)

  • soylent green, seylent green, SOYLENT GREEN, seylent green, say soylent, soylent, now say green, green, SOYLENT GREEN, seylent green, YOURE EATING PEOPLE! auuughhhhhhh thumbs up if you get it LOL!!

  • @Sweetcuppcake30

    i dont get it

  • This scene is hella nasty after you find out its people.

  • BTW

    Thats REAL LETTUCE

    noy Soylent Green waffers.

  • SOYLENT GREEN IS CRAPPY LETTUCE!

  • I ate breakfast while I was watching this.

  • The classical music piece is the opening movement of Beethoven's "Pastoral"

symphony number 6. One of his most beloved.

  • haha they don't even eat soylent green in this scene. This is great because for Heston's character it's one of the first times he's eaten real food. In the film's world those small apples are likely $50 each.

  • @KrazyKommieKiller You see at the start of the movie Heston's character, a policeman, loots the food from a rich womans house where he is investigating something. One of the movies' messages was exploring the corruption that would follow, they believed, from a messive sense of overpopulation. And past pollution leading to generational food shortages.

The point of showing food scene was to point out that fresh produce was completely out of reach of common people. Unavailable, not $50 each.

  • @KrazyKommieKiller your right this scene was not about eating the soylent green i was hoping to see him it some. im glad that our world wont turn out this way in the year 2020. instead our world population is just under 7 billion people and theres enough food to feed everyone. but some of the poeple that are starving is because they are poor and cant aford food. i know its sad

  • @TheNecropolis20 We are over 7 billion people now (passed it Sept/Oct 2011), it's more complicated than just "people are poor" too. People are starving for a number of reasons including drought, flooding and wars.

  • @axollot to right the massive increase in the population is much more complicated that's why nobodys come easy answer to stop it.

  • @Professor6871 -- I have a few suggestions. 1) Safe, reliable, affordable contraception. 2) Teaching people how to use it properly and responsibly instead of conceding to ancient religious beliefs. 3) Encouraging people to evaluate beforehand whether they truly want to be parents *and* have the means to give a child what it needs (emotionally as well as physically) instead of simply having them because it's expected. To have a child is to hold another human life in your hands.

  • @OreadNYC The only places with overpopulation problems are third world countries, which have been taught for decades by both Catholics and Muslims that contraception doesn't work and doesn't prevent pregnancy or STDs, and that they should all just practice abstinence.

The overpopulation problem is entirely because of poor resource management and the population growth in these. There IS enough food. And with so many more people, pollution is lower than it was during the Industrial revolution.

  • @Professor6871 The problem isn't really there. Half of the food in the world is still thrown away or eaten by rats. Hell, North America and Canada pay farmers to NOT grow food, to stay competitive, and the same thing happens in South America. The only reason there's food problems at all is because the countries with them have no infrastructure. Hell, the United States alone, if all of the farmland was used at once, could feed every single person on Earth. Moving it to them is impossible though.

  • Macca's will soon be changing its name to Soylent inc.

  • mmmmm... Soylent Greeeeeeen...

  • Bon Apettite,Thorn & Sol!!

  • My favorites scene as well. Does anyone know the name of the classical music piece playing? I've been trying to figure it out forever...

  • This makes me think about all the people eating fancy food while others would be happy to eat their apple cores and the skin they cut off their fancy cheese.

  • The've disguised the soylent green as lettuce.

  • Genetically modified food. Don't you just love it when movies turn into real life?

    Love Edward G. Robinson BTW

  • @blkchk What does genetically modified food have to do with a world of permanent food shortage, and constant hunger? Bonus points if you can explain why GM food has come about in the first place.

  • @Monteee1000 ---Correct, GM food is an Effect, the Cause is overpopulation

  • O.O

  • Why is it green? Must be jealous people... *rimshot*

  • @katgrrrl ...They all got seasick before they died, that explains the green...*rimshot*!!

  • Is that really the dad from Malcom in the Middle??

  • @xSurfinB1rdx Noooo. It's Edward G. Robinson (an iconic actor) and Charlton Heston (another icon). Both dead now. Must been something they ate (rim-shot here). Sorry...just had to.

  • ITS PEOPLE!!!!!!!!

  • I'm not a picky person, just don't feel like eating a hamburger or anything that are mass produced because that might have been someone's love ones, or could have been your parents, masseur, fiancée, an idiot, an old couple, your grandma or simply anything that walks with two nice pair of legs...that just doesn't sit well with me. It's happening now...

  • Boo hoo Soylent Green is made out of people! And the sunday special at the Wong tong restaurant is made out of cat. I dont care what soylent green is made out of it tastes hella good.

  • @residentevilnerd I'm told the taste varies... from person to person...

  • @AEigner Lela, futurama

  • @KJ0012 bingo! ; )

  • HE ATE MY GRANDMA!!!

  • @xXScooterProXx Who hasn't?

  • It's PEOPLE!

  • I wonder what does Soylent Green taste like? Is there a meaty aftertaste to it?

  • @applegirl055

    Taste like chicken

  • mmm wendy's chili , oh so good!

  • That Soylent Green, a tasty delicacy til you realize that you might be eating your family member, a best friend, a bum on the street, anyone, for that matter! Then, it's not so tasty.

  • @jarbon5 don't be so picky :P

  • @RaynorX Not a picky person, just don't like eating food that used to be human. To think that I'm eating a hamburger that might have been the love of someone's life, or could have been a parent, a doctor, that just doesn't sit well with me, feel me?

  • @jarbon5 but you have no problem eating an animal's parent/child/mate? :P

  • @RaynorX No I don't, because those animals weren't, at onetime, human.

  • yummy :) QC

  • yummmy, People

  • amazing movie!!!! Charlton Heston Forever!!!

  • mmmm people

  • the point of the is not the end of man but the end of man's humanity almost as powerful as1984

  • Soylent Green is peeeeeeople?

  • @ISawBonez,

    yea. tasty.

  • @MensRifleAssociation

This movie made me laugh, especially that line. In fact, I say it to people out of the blue, when it does pop into my mind... not many get the joke.

  • Why can't Sol bite into the love apple? Is it because of his false teeth?

  • It's pretty weird watching this...

  • This is so sad. Lets try to avoid this. lmao

  • The only movie that can make you truly appreciate running water and an apple.

  • @monkeyman1140

    Don't forget - The Road.

  • @expertinfilms definitely not the kind of lettuce you think lol

  • tastes like chicken

  • sad to think one of us could be eating the last piece of beef one day.

  • @RockyC123 I don't think because an enviroment, maybe because of being vegetarian. It is natural for human see future worse and worse and hope end of the world. If some scenarios are realistic, some are not feasible because of time scale, etc. The only threat of overpopulation is from africa and asia, there populations are increased at high rate, but that is subject to debate. I keep myself from more comments

  • i did not mention a time scale, i just said some day. maybe you thought i meant by the time we reach the year that soylent green is based in? i agree if that is the case, we probably will not be over populated by that time, but maybe in an even distant future we will be. as for the asia and africa debate, i dont have anything to say about that because i have no idea how much more population they are pushing out compared to the rest of the world.

  • @RockyC123 LOL 80% of humans cannot eat beef TODAY!

  • why

  • @RockyC123 bro just get married...you'll have that feeling every day :D

  • @Googlystube Sounds like you and your mate are perfect for one another.

  • hmmm huh hahaha mmmm slllsssssspppprrrrr mmmmmm haha huum

  • and according to the movie that was a feast... and it was. see, it pans out.

  • lol. exactly my poor guys meal i had today. eating lettuce now and had a tomata!. whats the odds...be content with what you have. the bible.

  • After watching this video, I have nothing else to say but "Eat me!"

  • I couldn't take my eyes off Leigh Taylor-Young. She was absolutely beautiful in this movie.

  • In the commentary for the dvd, director Richard Fleischer tells how this entire sequence had almost no dialogue and was totally dependent on the acting skills of Heston and Robinson. He also mentions that alot of it was ad-libbed.

  • what if it turned into a food fight

  • IT"S PEOPLE! SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!

  • @Mithrandir94 What do you think Wendy's chili is?

  • it's made of mice

  • @Mithrandir94 In this scene they don't eat Soylent Green but normal food. That's why they are so excited about it. Imagine you were eating a beef steak and fresh vegetables after years on cheeseburger only. That is how they feel in this scene.

  • @Mithrandir94

    No it's SHEOPLE.
