Brian Wilson, you are an absolute legend and we (your fans) love you with all our hearts (the devotion is kinda freaky, I'll admit). It's just so great that you have been honoured like this, although the standing ovations are nothing new to anyone who has been privilleged enough to experience you in concert!
Brian is so beloved. It was awesome to see The Ultimate Diva - Diana Ross rock and dance along with Brian Wilson...The enthusiasm of the audience was explosive as recognition of the true gift Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys is an enduring one! Thanks for the clip!
I really wish there was more lyle lovett..sure, he's not great to look at but his rendition of "God Only Knows" is all heart and so light and airy..almost as perfect as the original.
Thank you! Diana Ross had my fullest attention during the broadcast just like everyone's generous comments. I don't know if you are music lovers, music students, writers or ambitious videographers or all four. I would like to know more about everyone who has commented. Darlene
Music lover here..........since, I was 3years old I can remember my sister playing "Love Is Blue", Sugar, Sugar, Someday We'll Be Together", and so on! She recently passed away........she left me music memories!
Vinny, you sweetheart, you got it! I checked out your site and there they are, the BB choir and Diana Ross. We're a team! I am so grateful for everyone's comments which inspire me to focus even more on the music for a documentary I am working on. YouTube rocks!! Q. Are you also a wine drinker? Darlene
I was hoping this would be on You Tube. This segment was the highlight of the Kennedy Center Honors program. The only missing element are the beach balls coming down from the ceiling. Thanks. Now my wife and son can also watch it.
They sure got the crowd on their feet. All of those tuxes rockin' out just like at a BB concert. They also had the Pendleton shirts going, along with the beach balls. I can't remember a BB show with them. Just like Brian would have like, the music got the people moving.....
I think the previous poster might have been referring to the BB first name, The Pendletones. But the shirt are named after an Oregon company, the Pendleton Woolen Mills founded in (where else) Pendleton, Oregon (home of the roundup).
i wouldn't think they would. they're not the beach boys, but they did one heck of a job. as with your opinion, in my opinion, there's no need to compare. hootie had everybody on their feet.
I think Hottie & The Blowfish did a fantastic job, also I must say that the back vocalist "Neal Coomer" did an awesome job of hitting the high notes of te Beach Boys sound!! 5 stars to Mr. Coomer!
Compared to the BB's '60's surfer love-song style, Hootie's rendition is revved up like a race car. It is grittier and rougher; the tempo is faster, and the percussion is harder driving. Think race cars when you listen to these songs, not surfboards.
i just looked at the video a few minutes ago. it does look a cross between linda carter, catherine zeta-jones and shania twain. but with her being tall and womanly (curves) it might be indeed linda.
i saw the show last night as i always do, brian's and scorsese's was the best! thank you so much for having it on youtube, now i can see it again whenever i want. thanks again.
Thanks for posting for all who didn't get to see the actual show! Thanks again! Notice the whole place is up and rockin and singing along including Mrs. Bush!!!!!
Oh, you guys and those Pendletons!
Y'kno, I had five of them until they eventually wore out. A red one, two blue and two brown. Took about three years of steady wearing..
Elbows went thin, roach burns and liquor spoiled a couple of 'em.

The RHCP never did California Girls. I think you're thinking of David Lee Roth tsandtss.

does anyone know what Beach Boys song those kids sang who were right after Hootie?
hockeystar02004 4 years ago
It wasn't a Beach Boys song, it was one of Brian's solo efforts. It is the song he closes all of his concerts with, "Love and Mercy".

Now that I see Pendleton spelled correctly, I feel like I'm 16 AGAIN ... thanks. Trader Bay doesn't have the same effect. Darlene

Hootie & The Blowdfish were not bad, but they don't have the harmonies of the Wilsons, Love, and Jardine.
