  • This and "Cum On Feel the Noize" by Quiet Riot are the only cover songs I can think of that gained the band it's recognition.

  • 92 reading had one hell of a line up. Manics and Nirvana, would do anything to have been there

  • Too emotional song subject to hear, but still I can't help watching this over and over again.....GREAT!

  • This is so tight!

How is music like this not heard and loved by more!?

    Amazing!

Nothing like good real live music.

  • It's cool that I have a friend who was offered to be in this band, lol. {:-p

  • Cardiff 2009 or 10, Great!

  • I think the python's version is little bit better.

  • "THAT SUACAD IS PAINLAAAAAAAAAAAS"

gotta love the way James pronounces words...

  • They all look so great here, Look at James body asciyvkgvudyu

  • FUCKIN AWESOME , the welsh really know how to rock the place :)

  • The best version of this song.

  • Richey really did put himself down in terms of his guitar playing... this was only 92 and he was still able to play what he played here fairly well.

  • 2:32 - 2:38 - crowd is like zombies o_O

  • James UNF

  • Suicide is painless...UNLESS you do it with a rusty spoon. That smarts.

    (Great cover, btw)

  • hehe, sean's hair :)

  • Such an amazing song, and they pulled off a cover better than the original song. It's kind of depressing and hopeful at the same time.

  • I'm a person who has been on medication for depression for 9 years, many days i think of this song 'Suicide Is Painless' when i hate my own life.

But, it's this song that gives me hope, it gives me strength, because of the word's "I can take or leave it as i please", to me it means i could kill myself, but i'm stronger than that, i can just as easily leave it.

MSP are the first i ever heard singing this song, so to them i say thankyou.

  • @jackdanielmason1969

I see what you mean. I feel like I start thinking of suicide as an escape whenever something bad happens to me...it's like a backup plan that I never use. Listening to really depressing songs, feeling all bad for myself. It's really not normal but it's almost like therapy. Like you I get over it though.

  • A band that releases a "hit" single that is a cover is really lame.

  • @tulsavintagedigital thats not true at all, jeff buckley, joan jett, nirvana, the kinks and the sex pistols are just a few that have released covers and they are all amazing.

  • @Libertinedreamful what you said.

  • @tulsavintagedigital But if you read the information on this video it says that it was released to raise funds for Scope/The Spastics Society. So they weren't releasing it for their own gain.

  • the manics are mint man if anyone dares to contradict me i will hunt you down and stab you in the left eye OKAY!

  • they all look gorgeousss ahhh <3

  • aha james has his guitar, seriously low at this gig, back problems much?? then again i probly have it lower

  • this was taped from the beat by crowley

  • reading 92 was just an amazing festival, so much good music

  • James' voice sounds nice here (it always does) but I mean... The strain of it..

And is it just me or why can't I tell the difference between guitar and Rhythm guitar? :(

  • @paulyoungnow What a stupid thing to say, how do you know? he could still be alive living in another country for all you know.

  • nicky wire fan myself but JDB lookin good yum x

  • Richey looks so good.

    M*A*S*H!

  • i can hear and see richey playing..!!?!?!

  • @drake128 Yeah, he did play sometimes. He's even plugged in!! :) lol

  • Every time I hear a new version of this song it is better than the last.

This is currently the best one.

    Fuck yeah Seaking!

  • That's a fantastic post. Absolute classic Manics!! Still got my 'Cultural Chernobyl' Tee Shirt from then!!

  • suicide is painless!!!!

  • Nice song but still rather hear the mash version

  • henry blake his spinning in his grave right now, im sorry hawkeye.

  • that could not sound any better

  • How many hits did the Manics have before the release of Generation Terrorists, I have heard of Suicide Alley which is amazing and the others that is on Forever Delayed. Also Aint going down is the best B side ever.

  • Havent seen that for a while. Class.

  • nickys playing isnt that shit as in you love us

  • yes richey

  • nicky has cool firebird bass

  • It's a Gibson Thunderbird bass actually.

  • Staybeautiful33,

could you please tell me who sang the original?

I remember they were a brother and sister who sang close harmony, in a mainstream way which didn't appeal to me.

    Thanks,

    Coco

  • Johnny Mandel wrote it. But who is the performer is unknown to me. Originally it was featured in the movie M*A*S*H (not the series but the movie).

  • @winnetouch It was the theme of the series too

  • @LtGerbal I know, but it first appeared in the movie. When the series came out, lots of people simply forgot about the low budget surprise masterpiece that won an academy award. A lot of people don't even know that a mash movie exists now a days. They only know mash from sindication of the show. So I thought I'd point that out :)

  • @winnetouch I see what your saying, I did a power point for a book report on mash, the background pictures were all from the movie and tv show. My teacher didn't even know there was a movie, I got full credit though. The very last slide was a picture of Hawkeye standing there with the rocks that said goodbye, I turned around and my other teacher had tear in his eye, gues it brought back memories. I got extra credit for it.

  • oh and the one you were referring to is probably the lady and the bird version...

  • MASH 4077 FOREVER!!!!!!!

  • is richey plugged in here? it seems like it

  • yes !

  • @EstebanCambiassoARG also yes

  • @EstebanCambiassoARG Yeah, he sounds OK! I like it when he's turned up, especially Holy Bible era where the band sound immense

  • wow this is rare!

  • Love the Manics, love this song, and a few others,... could have done a little more with the drums though.

  • Excellent, when they were really rocking!

  • brilliant...

  • Amen.

Strange that Sean and James look better than Nicky and Richey in this era I think. Or it might be those awful coloured blouses!

  • OH MY GOD!!!! *.*

just luv it, thanx for posting this!!

i wish i had a chance to see richey with the manics but it's too late, so i can please myself with this!! :)
