Why was the bearded guard getting in a flap at the end. Not seen the whole movie but in the trailer he was giving him a nasty beating in a cell. Oh and i thought later garottes were designed to push against the spine at same time, the crank turned fast and the neck snapped not slow suffocation. @singularismo Teoricamente, el garrote vil mataba de forma instantanea al partirte el cuello. Por desgracia, eso era solo en teoria. La gran mayoría de las veces, antes de llegar a eso, la muerte se producía por asfixia, tras varios minutos de apretar el cuello. En algunos casos tardaban en morir media hora. En el caso de Salvador, tardó 20 minutos en morir. (Inició ejecución a las 9:20, hora de la muerte 9:40). Al contrario, han reducido el drama para no herir al espectador.

@6digit The idea was to break the spine, damaging the spinal cord causing coma and eventually death but since it was a spanish invention, well it didn't work well and as you said, you felt all the pain and died of asphixia, but some deaths could take more than 15 minutes, and suprisingly it was prohibited only 37 years ago :/

Personally, I think the cycle would end a lot faster if the people involved in committing executions would kill themselves, as well. There is nothing civilized, in my humble opinion, about capital punishment. Then again, in a world that is so completely awash with hatred, selfishness, greed, and corruption, is it really a surprise it still exists?
