@Aidos8158 well..first of all.. thank you so much for putting this one out on You Tube..and able more people to experience the great joy of it.. and second.. can I be nr.2 than..who agrees with you .. ;) greets..Carmen.
i love metal and also love jazz... sometimes the double kick pedal thing sounds absurd, the those bass drum rolls he's doing sound fantastic to these ears.
for some reason the very beginning of this reminded me of the night court theme... which now i have to hear again.
I don't get the fuss about double pedals. If it sounds good, why not? Just because it's not the norm, doesn't mean it's not right. I mean, if you didn't have a double pedal, how would you get that beautiful bass drum roll that Ronald gets? If it opens up more musical possibilities, it's a good thing. Music isn't about being technical or proving that you don't need a tool, it's about using those tools to make music sound good.
PLEASE STOP HATING!!!!! THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH A SINGLE OR DOUBLE PEDAL!!!!!I THING YOU SHOULD LEARN BOTH CUZ IT STILL APART OF THE DRUMS AND IT CAN BE A BIG HELP TOWARDS YOUR HI HAT WORK AS WELL...... LETS STOP WORRYING ABOUT WHO USES WHAT N JUST MAKE MUSIC ...... 4rm LI Marcus D town!!!!!!!
And the Grammy nominee goes too......(drum roll if you will).....wait what's that??? Ronald Bruner, Jr. Way to go Sir. No matter ones accomplishments, there will always be "nay-sayers." So once again, Good Show, Spectacular, AWESOME!!! Keep on keepin on...
I couldn't even finish watching this... So damn whack!! Where Is the groove? And what that hell is Clarke doing by playing with a guy like Bruner? Bruner should be playing with Wooten, and Clarke should be playing with Gadd... Etc
@diegovbjames Do you wanna know why Stanley chose Ron? He's a young guy thats making a name for himself and Stanley is constantly on the look out for gifted young musicians and Stanley allows them to play out more often.Theres nothing whack Ron's playing at all either man,and he doesn't play the same cliche chops I hear from a lot of drummers from his background.Ron can groove and in order for someone like Ron to play like he does he must have a solid understanding of knowing where the "1" is.
What are you talking about! They are gettin' it! It is great. They're not playing I'll take you there or Feel like makin love, This is something different. It is grooving too.
bad ass bass playin for sure. love the way he slaps it then plays it like a guitar then back to the funk. again..lol. theres so many styles that can be played on a bass..this vid makes me want to practice some more. cool vid
nothing wrong with a double pedal....drummers use both hands right?
It's the end result that matters...it either sounds good or it doesn't...the tools are meaningless...he makes it flow, doesn't overuse it and looks at it for what it is, just another limb hitting a drum.
drummers been playin' double bass techniques for over 50 years...get over it and open up your ears.

i was almost going to say wow im feeling this drummer until i saw he's playing with a double pedal..... just killed it for me... still fast hands though
Still unbelievable. That is like saying I was going to say wow about Stanley Clarke until I realized he was using all of his fingers - so what these guys are killing it. (as in period).
@Kylebarker21 nothin wrong with a double pedal...it's not like it's a single foot double pedal...he still has to move his left foot just as quickly as his right
@Kylebarker21 There's no way in hell he could be that fast with a single pedal, so why should it kill it for you? I mean, if he was using it to do something that is achievable with a single pedal, then fine. But in this case, it's impossible. So there's nothing wrong with it.
That whole thing about Ronald playing too much, filling in too many of the spaces with chops, etc... That's Ron's style. He plays a lot of notes. I'm sure Stanley would, if he weren't feeling Ron's playing or style, tell Ron or get a new drummer. I know that, from an interview with Derrico Watson who toured with SMV, Stanley is a little more liberal when it comes to drumming than Victor is. All the drummers who play for Vic are strictly groove players, nothing flashy.

Is it me or is this the worse I have seen Stanley play. No creativity. I believe Chick brought the best outta him on albums. And he brought the best outta Lenny White but that is another issue.
No doubt. Guys should check out the 7 minute solo here from a drummers live performance(2006 or 2007). He plays this insane solo to a soundtrack with sweet grooves and a fantastic transition halfway through. Truly one of the very best drumming videos I've seen here and I'm ultra critical. This man has chops to die for.
Doesn't the video title drum and bass bad asses sorta explain that in itself. These guys aren't taping an album, they're showing off their chops. I think they proved their point.
man i hate negative fools complaining about things like playing showboating, this is sick and entertaining, its so rhythmically interesting, im not complaining- anyone who is needs to lighten up
I had the privilege of seeing these guys live in San Diego last year. I think it will go down as the the best concert I have ever seen (and not because I'm just a drummer who likes jazz-funk-fusion either)These guys did nothing but battle each other all night and it was quite intentional and rehearsed (as well as improv.... Ron Bruner wrecks this entire fucking performance. The guy just can't lay down a fucking simple groove. Hes playing with Stanley Clarke and making the entire thing sound like shit. Stop trying to show off Ron, you're making yourself look like a fool. Just groove man.
Another thing; in live jam sessions there are no boundaries. This is the time to showcase what you've practicing on in real time. It kills me when people make comments like- boring, generally, what this means is, they lack real rhythm and groove so they say things like boring or "that ain't my style". If you are truly a drummer you would naturally migrate toward stuff like this because bass and drums are married to each other; they are the foundation of music. If you always play simple and structure music and never push the envelope with live jam sessions, you will eventually become soft. Nothing beats straight rawness.
I'm very impressed. Still I think Ronald lacks some dynamics in his playing. I'm not saying I'm better than him...he plays amazingly and he does stuff that I will never learn. But I think he needs to "give more room" in the music. Less is someimes more in music. Not all the time but sometimes. Its clear in this clip that the experienced Stanley Clarke knows this, he gives a lot of room and comes up with very musical ideas all the way. Just my thoughts anyway. Take care out there.
what is so great about the "rawness" is that you know they could play it studio perfect if they cut back a tiny bit. But instead they decide to just play whatever the hell they want. Nobody really does that anymore, with everything being standardized to clicktrack-perfection. Bruner is a real breath of fresh air. I LOVE IT!!!
