Great videos! One thing I noticed. I'm not trying to be an ass, but when jump starting, always hook up the positive first, then negative. When removing, negative, then positive. Think about it, if you hook up the negative first, then accidentally touch ground with the positive, you'll short your jump pack.
i have the same one it won't idle corectly anything i do it seems that it will either idle too high or backfire changed the governor gear and still didn't help any ideas would really help.
@onetoughtechie if you look on the bottom of your carb bowl you will see a main jet adjustment screw, just back that out a little bit while it is running and it will quit surging
Awsome! I just got that exact same mower this weekend. Cranked it for the first time in ten years. Fired right up! Could you be a hero and post the Model # . Mine is unreadable.
Well, not really. Hydrostatic is a fully automatic transmission that uses fluid to move the tractor like a car's automatic. Shift-on-the-go on most machines is a regular gear drive trans that briefly disengages the belt from spinning the transaxle pulley when you move the gearshift lever from one gear to another. Murray used this almost exclusively for many years, but it was in fact the same transaxle you would find in regular gear drive tractors that did not have shift-on-the-go.
That Brings back memories. I use to have a tractor like that and me and a buddy that use to live down the street from me use to get togeather and ride our tractors all over the "hood" back in the day. I drove and worked my tractor ti'll you absolutly couldnt drive it no more. Everything was shot the day i scraped'er out. Only thing i didnt like about that tractor was that damn "governor override" they tended to put on them tecumsehs. That was BS. Guys thats worked on'em will know what i speak.
LOL, I mow the front lawn, but the back yard is just dirt and weeds, it hasn't been landscaped yet since we built the new house. Fortunately no one can see it.
One by one over many years. From eBay, craigslist, classified papers, swap meets, the dump, yard sales, side of the road junk piles, and of course a construction dumpster at a school where the Troy-Bilt came from.
I messed around with it in May. The carb is fucked on that thing; barely runs. Not to mention the bees that were it in. I did however manage to swap on the good working transaxle I had for it, so it's not completely hopeless.
I have a older 11HP briggs i got off a old snapper RER- i put it on another tractor- had to change the drain tube, forgot to add new oil..... started it, ran it, and forgot it had no oil in it... i did however manage to keep it from seizing - and it still runs good today.
Rear-engine riders are nice for small lawns, and usually have a tight turning radius; this lawn would have been impossible with a front engine tractor(I tried!). What I like about this one is it has a big motor, so it cuts like a big tractor. Most of them back then had 6-8hp motors.
I had this one 90's RER murray- was nearly mint, except for the faded paint near the gastank- i got it from my ex bro in law - originally had a 11HP on it- he swapped a 14.5HP OHV briggs on it.
I didnt really need the small tractor- so i took the 14.5HP off ( thats all i really wanted off it anyway) - put an older 11HP on it and sold it.
lol mines sudenly got some serious eletrical problems, one day i tuned the key off when i parked it it backfired and then now she is sparking when you connect the battery and the fuse melts......
still have this lynol?

i have a murray that says on a label that it was made in 1938!!!
it runs great and everything is original!
the only thing i do i change the oil, sparkplug, and air filter.
everything is good, and for the 20 YEARS i've had it, i have never had to put air in the tires!!!!!!! the tires have never gotten low at all.
i use it about 1-2 every 2-3 weeks

Yeah, with that cover over it. I think the previous owners left it outside most of it's life though, it was kinda rusty when I got it.

didn't have that hard of a time starting for sitting 3 years. preety good little RER.
gasman7777 3 years ago 2
Doesn't seem to run too bad. The 11 HP was one of the better engines made by Briggs.
I've been waiting to see this thing running! Didn't you say in an earlier video that it was infested by bees?
themaritimeman 3 years ago
the one infested by bees was the one he has at his house i think
clubcar98 3 years ago
Yeah that's the RE2000 themariteman is thinking of. This thing is at my folks house, I don't think I had it in any videos before.
LynolsOffice 3 years ago
Oh, okay, I thought this was the RE2000. Are you gonna get that running someday?

Yeah, It's done that low idle surging as long as I've had it. I think a carb cleaning/rebuild would help. If I sell it I'll have to do that.
