Jimmy Iovine fucked up big time, but I gotta say the one on Runnin Down A Dream is much better than this. But let's not forget all the good Iovine did too
I agree that it would have been great to have heard this song on an album but Jimmy Iovine made a lot of good decisions for the band, too. Anyway, it's good to have sense of 'stumbling across a treasure' sometimes isn't it?

The live version they do in the studio from the Tom Petty DVD boxed set is the best. Killer song, makes me wish I had a chick to drive around and crank rock music with. : (
This is by far one of the best songs the Heartbreaker's have ever written...Tom sings from the heart of the listener. Back then gas was less than a buck a gallon, now it's like he knew how things were goin to be now a days, blows my mind as an artist. Def should have made the album!
This is such a great song by Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers yet Jimmy Iovine thought this song was too acoustic to be on Long After Dark. Jimmy should have thought twice about that statement back then.
It feels so good to know
I got you where you belong
here in my heart
right by my side
honey you're getting me by
yeah, you're keeping me alive

One dislike? How can anyone not like this song?! This is uncomplicated, feel good music at it's best! This is about as good as it gets!

can't believe they never released this on a regular album. Would have been another hit.
