  • Gotta love Tabasco, i grew up as a kid in Louisiana, an hour or so away from the Tabasco Plant on Avery Island, La. We went there a few times on School Field Trips in the early 1970's

  • wow a whole half teaspoon to a pound of hamburger! Careful with that! haha.....

  • This commercial is from 1964; I have a dated copy of it on 35 mm.

  • This was the brand that Dickie Moore put on a sausage that he gave to Spanky in the Little Rascals episode, "Birthday Blues." And after Spanky eats it what follows is the most hysterical (and definitely memorable) sound effect in history!

  • 1/2 tsp per pound of ground beef! What's the point? And mayo with a touch of Tabasco as salad dressing? So glad I didn't have to eat that boring late '50s early 60's diet.

  • @Alanna74

An interesting post. My recall of that era tells me that Americans were used to a much blander diet than today when it came to seasonings, especially "heat". Most people then had a very low tolerance level for hot seasoning, as they were so unaccustomed to it. Even adding 1/2 a teaspoon to a pound of beef was taking a walk on the wild side! Adding more would have risked a negative reaction in many people!

  • Doesn't food just look nasty in "grayscales"... Now just imagine this commercial in glorious technicolor...

  • It would still look horrible

  • Those eggs were gross.

  • Sounds about right!

  • Tabasco sauce was first introduced by the McIlhenny family shortly after the Civil War (in late 1865), so that means this spot- and the others in this campaign- was produced in 1965 or early '66.
