  • @drewzillasaurusrex He did! You apparently are not old enough to know.

  • He has a little gospel in his music.

  • In the film's commentary soundtrack the band members (except for David) all said that they wanted to do this video differently, to make a collage to fit in here, but after seeing the film of David, everybody decided to keep the entire sequence focusing on him and his complete immersion in the song...He became the song in performance,...Now that's entertainment!!

  • fuck this band, now i know why my daughter cut herself.

  • All I have to say is 4:00...gives me goosebumps every time.

  • never ever gets old does it.

  • @recyclerking1 No it doesn't...I have to come here and read all the great comments and watch this vid over and over...

  • I LOVE the keyboard section starting at 4:00. Totally awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Talking heads, un groupe au dessus de la moyenne intellectuelle.

    A bon entendeur, à bientot...

  • The lead singer moves like he has been to Bethel church!?!

  • i love it !!

  • hahaha 2:00 thats how to play a solo

  • this has been great 4 more than 20 years!!!!

  • So the first face you see in this video is Bernie Worrell from Parliament/Funkadelic as he starts the keyboard riff to the song. Then the backup singers who face off with Byrne are the "Brides of Funkenstein" from Parliament/Funkadelic. Amazing incarnation of the Heads. I know some people really preferred the more punk, stripped down band (and there's a lot to be said for that), but this had a pretty special thing going for it, too. And of course let's not forget Johnathan Demme's direction.

  • byrne and thom yorke should start their own dance band " the dashingly spastic dancing credenzas:

  • 1:58 best part

  • 2:20 Reminds me a lot of Harry Caray

  • This is much better than the studio version in my opinion.

  • Fantastic band. Great song. "Let the days go by. Into the silent water...Same as it ever was." His unique dancing style probably inspired Thom Yorke ten years later.

  • same as it ever was

  • OH MY GOD

    this is so good

    so good

    so good

    so good

    so good!

i love when he hits himself in the head

  • man this song is still good after 20 years.

  • @pooka524 30.

  • @daithifleming god i feel old...

  • @daithifleming god i feel old..

  • best version of this

  • Time is just a thought, the more you think the less it's sought.

  • i want to go to the church of the talking heads.

  • Well how did I get here?? Love this explanation of life! Same as it ever was.............♥♥

  • unique..

  • god, there's just pure religious fervor-like energy in this song. love it.

  • @shrinkwrap many christians at the time the song came out and saw him perform aid he was making fun of them but David said that it was inspired by that in a way but more so the music "made" him move this way and jerk that way, but YES he DID see preachers and such do these movements and it intrigued him. What do you expect from a logical musician who has at the same time a deep vein of pain and soul. Great music. His solo stuff is beautiful too, more so even. He's got better, not stale at all.

  • @mediagod2004 Although I understand how people unfamiliar with him may think he's another artsy intellectual elitist, the fact is that David Byrne is not one to ever make fun of anyone, ever. He's a truly humble and respectful person, who genuinely sees the beauty in everything. It's not an act at all either; he's really like that. Just a really decent guy who makes great music and wants to get along with everyone. One of a kind.

  • @tpaladino You must have misunderstood my meaning to my post. I don't believe him to be making fun of ANYONE. But he says it clearly on Letterman that he saw people in the 'spirit' speaking 'tongues', etc., and it inspired him to incorporate it. He found it intriguing. I do not think he does this from a point of misunderstanding or being mean or judging at all. I just drew a line and commented on how so many people DID think he was making fun of Southern Christians and they are very wrong. TY!

  • That's the adventure of life. how did we get here?Or is it the tragedy of life, when you didn't realize you were going somewhere? And you wake up when you arrive and realize this is not where I meant to be. I guess they express my fear of average.

"Same as it ever was." Or letting your life get away from you. I either want to control it too much, or I'm afraid of letting life happen to me.

I enjoy the"once in a lifetime" theme. All life should be treated as once in a lifetime.

  • @katrinamorgan9 That's a very profound thought katrinamorgan9. I agree with that completely. Thanks for sharing that with us...

  • Classic!

  • I'm surprised that David Byrne didn't start a new dance sensation with this vid.

  • @drewzillasaurusrex he did its called a seizure.

  • @drewzillasaurusrex

    lol he did

  • @drewzillasaurusrex haha but well you know that he is making a black humor joke about the fucking people in religion that manipule the feelings and lifes of a lot people in the world, by example CLUB700 and that shit people!

  • @anderzom It occured to me that he was musing about personal epiphanies. You could be right though.

  • @drewzillasaurusrex he did and there was. long ago. 80's.

  • @drewzillasaurusrex He did. Up to a point.

  • @drewzillasaurusrex Who says he didn't I & my friends did and still do that dance every time we hear this song...lol (my Mom does it too)

  • What have i done

  • if i could go back in time this concert would definitely be on the priority list

  • Oh god !!! What have I done

  • So good live.

  • The good old days, with ya mates who were your buddies for life .... funny how things change but have just recently caught up with them 25 years (cough) down the track and although we are scattered around NZ we are like we never parted.

  • david byrne = genius!

  • @steviesuperstar How is this genius?

  • ..for me too....

  • Epic song.. A Flash back for me

  • @MrMushroom123 & @CaveGuy2008

Same as it ever will be

  • 3:11 what you say when you get another girl pregnant

  • like the NHS IN UK FULL OF BULSHIT, BUT talking heads are awesome

  • TRUTH has no GOD, it never lives with LIES.

  • damn, this just takes off and keeps goin

  • "You may ask yourself, 'Well, how did I get here?'"

That can be a sobering question.

This song speaks to everybody. It is danceable music, but it is a profound experience for the listener, too.

The song feels joyous to the listener if he or she has their ducks in a row. (E.G., if he or she is not living passively, 'Letting the days go by.').

The song can be a terrifying, almost, and fascinating experience if it hits the listener as a wake-up call.

As relevant and timeless as Shakespeare.

  • How did I get HERE? 4:00 to 4:15 EPIC !!!

  • dat feel when you realize HOW FUCKING GOOD a talking heads show was

  • @CaveGuy2008

hahah luckily, my country is retarded (serbia) so there aren't any adverts in any video here on Yt :D

  • @blasterskv Your country sounds gloomy

  • @CaveGuy2008

actually, no, not gloomy at all.... just there aren't stupid commercials here on Yt. do some research, don't judge the book by it's covers :)

    greets from serbia...

  • @blasterskv Kool--how do they pay for youtube then?

  • @CaveGuy2008

they? i have no idea and i don't care :)

i pay it monthly, about 8 dollars. flat package 1.5Mb/sec

  • @blasterskv That sucks that you have to pay for You Tube--Here in the west --we just pay for interenet and YT is free. But we have to view dumb commercials.

  • @CaveGuy2008

nope dude... u got me wrong - we pay for the whole internet, not for the Yt. access is limitless absolutely

  • Is it weird that I like watching David Byrnes when i'm high?? Very lets say, Entertaining.

  • so amazing and original -- would have been perfect if that guitarist didn't ruin his iconic dance moves/epileptic fit, at 2:03 by jumping into his spotlight and almost hitting him with the neck of the guitar. i wonder if dave got pissed at him.

  • @emannyc2002 I doubt it, about 4 seconds later you see him kind of smiling while he was singing. I think things like that get ignored when you're in the moment :)

  • 83 people must be "BIEBER fans" :(

  • AWESOME !!!!

  • 1:59 to 2:12 CLASSIC!!!

  • That got me in trouble once...."This is not my beautiful wife"

  • david byrne is the man. what the heck is he on in this video?

    lol

  • David Byrne one in seven billion.

  • David Byrne - legend.

  • Saw David Byrne in the Birmingham Symphony Hall 1992, one of the best gigs ever.

  • This song is how I feel after I use my paychecks to pay my bills.... when I have a thousand things to do and no time to do any of them! Love this song!!

  • I swear when my high school class reunites for its 10 year reunion, I'm gonna perform this song as is done in this video. This song is so poignant for that point in people's lives.

  • I am still mad he wont re unite the Talking Heads !!! :(

  • @boruff68 The reason he won't reunite the Talking Heads is because he doesn't have to. There are just certain bands that have done more than they could've imagined and they don't need to reunite in order to remind us of that. That's all a reunion would be doing and for true artists like David Byrne, it's unnecessary.

  • @Burtick2483 It is a valid point. It might not do it justic to bring them back. You cannot live in the past.

But you would have to admit,he is not as big now as he was with the group. The man is a very talented musician. The whole 'Stop making sense" concert is still neat to watch to this day.

  • This song blows my mind every time I listen to it....watching Byrne on stage...I don't know what to say anymore...

  • amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 1:59 to 2:12 - That's me when I get my cell phone bill.

  • @RodGumma You are lucky!

  • @RodGumma God loves you. That is the only explanation.

  • words can not describe how awesome this is....

  • My favourite Concert Film of all time...

  • Best version.. I guess it just was the right moment! =)

  • sweeeeeeeeeeet

  • One of those great unique bands that you cannot quite classify in a genre. The sign of true musical genius if you ask me.

  • @PFTome Actually, they were the pioneers of new wave.

  • Perfect choice for the theme for the "W" movie!

  • @PorroFirst It's from Stop Making Sense, a concert movie of the Talking Heads made in 1984. It was notable for being the first to be shot on digital, rather than film. If you're a fan of either the TH or good concert films, I recommend picking up a copy.

  • Is this from some live DVD.. or just a random video? I like the atmosphere.

  • talking heads are once in a life time!

  • You may find yourself commenting on Youtube....

  • @Agrippa4 and you may ask yourself, "How did I get here?" I just started off watching...
