  • I watched the M110 go from short tube to long tube to muzzle break. I was in the first Battalion, 3rd BN 6th FA at Ft Riley Kansas to go to MLRS. I miss the 8 inch, it was one of our "best" land weapons

  • heh, I know for a fact you can shoot it safely with fewer than 8 crew members. BUT your RPM goes WAY down...safe? Safe isn't the real issue.

  • This thing firing nuclear 1.1 KT W79 semi-neutron warheads, now that would make an impact. Though retired grenade now.

  • @barath4545 uh the round is bigger than that....it's adjustable and 1.1 KT nominal is the lowest setting.

  • @GrigoriZhukov Oki thx. Even bigger boom :)

  • @barath4545 When you want them to know that you REALLY don't want them parking their units on a particular part of a map, you give it to them.

  • Bravo Battery 5/17th F.A. "Bump City Rocks"

  • MIssion Ready 2 /18 th F.A. - 1978- 1980 Ft Sill -

  • @rentatrip1 45th ID B btry. and our SLOW hip shoot was 10min without cheating unsafely. ;^)

  • @rentatrip1 heh, I did basice in there in 83' cat 5 day and night. 8^) The old condemed barracks...

  • @GrigoriZhukov Good On Ya' Mate- as a 82 Charlie specialist Survey traing with Rod & tape - out on the Range with Buffalo & Prairie Dogs and those little fireflys , Good Times

  • @rentatrip1 Oh Saint Barbara don't remind me!!! I was 13B. Imagine laying a battery and you are out of BA3030's for flash lights adn the ones for the aiming stakes are WEAK...ground guiding at a RUN on a new moon and utiliziing cigarettes to ground guide the guns in AND lay them by. Our total out for the 72 ARTEP was LESS than 50mils. HTF we did that I'll never know, but we were pretty damn good. ;^)

  • @GrigoriZhukov - Gun Bunnys RULE - Hooo WAH - Love those 100 ponud Que-Tip bore brushes - in 105 degree heat , watch out for poison ivy when you go to squat ....

  • @rentatrip1 heh, once you've had the dehydrated pork patty...the poison ivy avoids YOU! Now the turkey buzzard on Ft. Sill...don't hold still when on road guard. They tend to circle.

  • I was a german commander of this gun. Great gun. Fucking vehicle!

  • @KICKASS242424 I didn't mind changing track. But adjusting wasn't fun and that thrice cursed fan tower?

  • Would be nice to see the actual round impacting!!!

  • @spritz0 It fracking ROCKS...especially when you get steel on target with the first round. 8^)

  • the Russian 203mm Pion is still around. fires at 37 km with regular rounds and 43+ with base bleed. seen one moving on the street, in formation with tanks, made a tank look like a toy.

if anybody knows, i wonder if the charge of the 203mm strong enough to knock out a tank? and not a mobility kill, i mean a total destruction?

  • @tbilisicentral yes for both the russian and the retired american guns. The M110A2 sights are designed for direct fire applications. 93.8936 kg is more than sufficient to obliterate any tank current or on the drawing boards.

  • @GrigoriZhukov but they HE load is only 11kgs. i mean, no doubt, any tank hit with a 100kg dummy projectile flying at 700m/s its doomed. i was wondering is there sufficient data to suggest that a point detonation HE round can destroy it. its almost the same as having several 155mm detonaded on the side of the tank IED style. will the explosive charge be enough to blow tank up without actual kinetics of the traveling shell involved (as it goes away with the blast)?

  • @tbilisicentral I don't think any major powers has made solid shot for anti-tank since the early 40's. But yes the american HE round 207lb (10kg) and the Russian 11kg HE rounds are sufficient when fired from the gun.

  • Gun 5. ...Romeo Btry, 5th Bn / 10th Marine Div. 1885 to 1988.

Man I loved our big guns, we had 5 man gun crews, these big beast would go anywhere.

eight inch is the KING of Battle -

Shot OVER---Shot OUT - Mission Ready - SIR!

  • yeah, and that gun is a pile of shit compared to our GPS guided UAV launched missiles..how many of those does sweden have?

  • "how many of those does sweden have? "

22 and Norway has 24. Norway paid about $11 million per cannon! So not cheapest gun around.

  • I'll betchya those Swedes would kick ass on today's gunners/FDC if forced to revert to sticks, charts and darts. Ten bucks says they use them as their primary FDC tool.

  • This gun was made before you were even born.

  • @MokomaSusi I read that the weapon is based on a WW1 British howitzer design, now thats old.

  • It'll tell you what's what in the butt.

  • A Btry 4-77 FA 86-88, Babenhausen. the train rides to graf!! "Railhead gunners"

  • Shooting 155 is entirely different than 8 inch. 8 inch wieghs 205 lbs. try dropping that into the loader rammer by hand...

By the way, in 1986 my battery went thru IG. We had rounds ON target in less than two minutes from "Fire Mission!"

Yes, sticks, charts and darts - no BUCS.

  • 3rd 8 in. Howitzer Bn, 11th Marines, RVN 68/69 An Hoa, NAC, Semper Fi

  • holyyy shit,this baby rocks

  • Gotta love that even after they were retired, they still got some action as bunker busters! With the advent of the excalibur type round i wonder if theyll bring a few of these back into service?

  • You can come to Greek Army.... We still use them as primary artillery

  • march order! make should the bubbles are level gun one to the aiming circle
