Actually I think this is kind of genius. The Shining was about an insecure, brilliant, unstable man haunted by ghosts (in his mind? real?) that seduce him with blood and sex and power and inspire him to do terrible things--all the while another part of his mind is watching in stunned horror, powerless to intervene. In the end his life is stolen from him and he is trapped in the past with his ghosts. Isn't that a lot like Kemper?

We'll never know, since his mother is obviously dead, killed by Ed. But whether she'd ever have told the truth, based on what I've read about her, seems doubtful to me.
