I've just discovered you but you're my favourite Bob Dylan cover artist. When I want to listen to a song I don't have and can't find on youtube, I'll look up your version.
Nice version Jim -very easy on the ear too. The guitar in the song is not the one in the video though I suspect. The fact that you are fingerpicking in the video and the song is strummed kind of gives it away. The sound seems rather too full and resonant to be from a little parlour guitar like that. Artistic licence maybe and why not indeed.
You're right - I recorded it ages ago with a strummed track, overlayed with a finger-picked track and 2nd vocal on the chorus, then added the harmonica. It got lost in the archives and found by accident, so now I have a video camera I added the visuals. Thanks for listening.
I'm running out of superlatives for you Jim. So poignant. I think you've come to us through haunted frightened trees and ancient empty streets just to deliver diamond studded tunes with vague traces of skippin’ reels of rhyme. Ethereal genius my friend.
Thanks Michael - tuning is "Dropped D" (DADGBE) using chords D (000232) Em (222000) and G (550400).
It's played here with a capo on the 3rd fret (key F) and I use a Low "F" harmonica (Lee Oskar by Tombo). The key feature in the song is the simple slide up to the 5th fret G from the 2nd fret Em - good luck with it!
@Lowdenjim Thank you so much for these details. Doesn't sound too difficult and I'll sure give it a try...By the way, I got such a kick out of learning "Buckets of Rain" following your great teaching video...Cheers, Michael
@Lowdenjim Thanks for your kind offer an encouragement, Jim! I will let you hear my versions as soon as I've gained enough confidence. At the moment, I'm just too humbled by what you do with these songs.
@Lowdenjim I´m a huge Dylan Fan and i listened to the basement tapes a lot, a few years ago and i didn´t notice this song much (to be true, i can´t remember it at all right now) and now, after i heard your version, it´s stucked in my head and i really like it! i also found this song on the soundtrack "i´m not there" with a nice performence by glen hansard and marketa irglova. it´s great to be captured by a dylan song after many years...it just happens now and then. thanks for that moment! :)
I think all the cowboy references have been used up so I will just say that that was just fabulous and lovely to see you performing in between your teaching sessions that we all appreciate so much. Thanks Jim for the great music.
Hee hee, love that rocker, V---, oops, nearly said Val D. then. Great job, Jim, especially on the little extras - harp and backing vocals in both ears. Thumbs and regards.
Cheers Raffa - an old recording I did a long time ago and forgot about (cropped up by accident on Minidisk) so had to put a vid to it after long after the event!
Nice job! This is GREAT!! ...not just the cover of one of my favorite songs from Pat Garrett but the cowboy hat too! haha. I need one of those big time! I'm tellin' you, I gotta fix these here wrists, get me a hat, some boots, saddle up, & head out west! :)
You've got one of the best channels.. Could you do a tutorial on this song sometime?

Keep on rockin', Lowdenjim, on that chair and elsewhere.
Great recording - what tuning is it that you play it in and what are the chord shapes?
Kind regards,
Michael
