  • "You are the problem, not your dog"

    KUDOS to you ZAK!!

    Completely Legit!!!

  • "Why do people blame the dogs so much?

    You're a human being,

where is your accountability for putting in the time and committing to the responsibility that you took on by bringing this dog into your life.

It is not the dogs fault, it is your fault for not putting in the time effort being patience and being consistent with your dog and teaching them.

You are the problem, not your dog." +1

  • You are hilarious. It's so true, what your saying. But I like your humor.

  • for the love of God...shut up

  • shut up fag

  • bah!! boring...dogs psychology , duh!! not interested we already know what u're saying..

do you want me to read your mind , and tell u what u're upto...

  • man Zak's gonna hit someone in this video :|

  • watch?v=dja73cuP6Pg

  • Yeah the dog is a baby for crying out loud

They aient going to be perfect the moment you get them

  • Shiiiiiit... U again!! Get a girl, man!!!!!

  • thx man

  • you are to much talking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @rolitorustria well what do you think he should do ? do a funny dance ? No he has a channel where he talks about dog training so thats obviously the whole point of his channel

  • bagatia-i pula-n mata de papagal prost ca numa de tine dau

  • true that 100% agree with you man dont blame the f***** dog it takes time just like it does with everything

  • He is right it is not the dog's problem iit is the person that just thinks that they just know not to get in the trash and all that stuff. We have 2 dogs and there is this little dog that are neighbor has they just dont care about him poor little thing he is over here all the time we take care of him because they just leave there grage door open and when he comes over here they close it so they dont have to worry about him cuz he is over at my house.... Poor little dog :(

  • I love this guy's attitude toward misguided owners! He calls them to task for blaming the dog when it is they who have not trained the dog. 'Catch your dog doing something right' is a phrase I have never forgotten. Don't spend time and frustrated acting out toward your dog... train him! Your dog knows only what it is taught and does behaviors that are natural to him. You can 'shape' them or even eliminate them (a sitting dog cannot jump....get it?)

Listen to ZG; he's a pro.

  • I know your favorite breed: Border Collies.

Your comment on them: "Borders Collie are exceptional dogs!", "Border Collies are the most intelligent breed on the planet, without a doubt, non negotiable, end of story."

  • I'm a sucker for those dogs with blue eyes :3

  • whoever wrote that email JUST GOT DIS!!!!!!

  • It's not always about the time invested. Some people are too meek to be dog owners - they don't understand the tone or nature of the interaction required.

Some dogs and some breeds won't take to training unless that type of energy is present in the interaction.

While I strongly suspect that you are spot on that woman has consistency issues , that aside, you cannot assume she automatically knows how to communicate with her dog.

  • dude what should i do if im in new york and my dog is in texas?

  • Do you have an email account on where I can ask you things ? Or is it just over your facebook or twitter? I'm just wondering cos I don't want my question to be overlooked.

  • I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thumbs up to your video!!!!! totally agree....xoxo

  • You guys are hating on how he handled these questions but to be honest...the person asking these questions will probably remember his answers by the shear bluntness of his response. Some people are too ignorant to learn any other way.

  • My dog, when he sees a plastic bag he tries to rip it and he knows that i dont aprove of it because, once i left him in my backyard and he ripped up the bag,and when he saw me he went submisive and ran under the house, lol. He knows that i dont aprove of it,he just likes to fuck around.

  • nvm anyway,.. this video is not about spelling but about dogs, and i agree with zak george ... people should stop blaming the dog.most of the time its the owner making the mistakes by not understanding their dog.

  • I found it somewhat ironic that your response the person having trouble with their dog was punishing. I agree with your approach to positive training but I think you lose credibility when you stand on a soap box and objurgate people who seem to be genuinely seeking your advice.

  • secret channel is easy zakgeorge lol

  • I have a 7month old newfie and he recently has started chewing furniture when I am out,he is only ever alone for 2 hours max,has lots of toys and chews while im out and has acess to enclosed yard,he is not doing this every time maybe twice a week. How is it possible to teach a dog a behaviour is wrong if your not there while he is doing it? we never tell him off unless we catch him doing something so im stumped as to how to correct this behaviour? any advice would be appreciated! :)

  • Great passion, worth listening to. Thanks for not being what is so typical - "politically correct" with people who need a wake up call

  • What can I do to help my dog who is constantly getting off her leash in the yard? She stays in the yard for the most part, but I'm afraid that one day I'm going to be coming home and find her on the side of the road dead because she got off and was hit by a vehicle. Right now i can't afford a fence, so what other options are there for me? I want to ensure the health and well being of my dog because I love her and don't want anything bad to happen to her.

  • Hahaha, he's sarcastically funny. I'm training to be a dog trainer at Petsmart yay!

  • LOL, this morning I saw you on ANIMAL PLANET!! & Um, i actually JUST found out ur on there yesterday... so it was COOL!

  • Completly agree!!!

  • I always say the person has to be smarter than the dog. Dogs DO NOT understand English or any other language. If you want to have a dog invest some time in learning how to train a dog. Those lovely well behaved dogs you see on TV or in your neighborhood did not become that way by accident. Someone took the time to learn how to communicate with the animal and teach the dog how to behave. If you don't want to learn dog training methods don't bother to get a dog.

  • I'm glad you address peoples questions, especially since you have much more knowledge on dogs than most of us do. However, I feel you can be quite harsh when people aren't as knowledgeable as you in dog training. Not everyone is an expert in that area. I don't expect you to know everything about my job, so I wouldn't be harsh with you when asking a question.

  • @Cristol1016 Its not harsh at all. People should take the time to read up and try to understand the animal they deside to take in their home. To many people treat dogs as humans, thinking they should understand things they didnt teach them to begin with. You cant say to a dog : " Dont eat the cat food " and expect them to understand what you mean, but to many people think that thats the way it works.

  • @Cristol1016 (2) Dog eats cat food.. 30 minutes later the owner punishes the dog... "Yeah, but my dog shows that she knows that he/she has done something wrong by taking a submissive posture and looking guilty" ... No, the dog is reacting to your body language and voice but doesnt know what he/she is being punished for and a little bit of homework would have made those people understand this and prevent dogs from being punished for nothing ... coz thats what they punish them for.. nothing.

  • @Cristol1016 (3) so nah, not harsh at all. People should be smart enough to take the time to understand a dog and how to teach them what they cant and can do instead of endless punishments for a lot of nothing. I dont know what kind of job you do, but i asume you only work with people and not with animals so you cant compare it with a dog trainer at all coz you can explain things to a human but not to dogs... or atleast not the way you can with a human.

  • @MsFlexxy Um....Thanks for taking the time to reply to me not once, but three times. You totally took what I said wayyyy out on context. Not only that, but my comment was not directed towards you. Lastly, if you are going to reply 3 times to me, and ramble on with all sorts of ridiculous banter, please learn to spell.

  • @Cristol1016 funny how people keep telling others that they should learn to spell first. i think i am doing pretty well with my english actually considering it isnt my first language. It seems like people keep mentioning spelling when they fail to find something better to say. Anyway,.. i didnt take it out of context at all with what i said, i just took the time to write something down but i gues people are to lazy to read these days and are even bothered when they have to read to much.

  • @MsFlexxy How would you know if you took it out of context or not, when I was the one who said it? So you somehow can get into my brain and know exactly what I mean? I think not. I did take the time to read what you said. Everything you stated, was again, out of context from what I said. I am not saying I disagree with the points that you have made, I fully agree. However, I think you should direct those comments towards someone else. Maybe towards someone who doesn't already know? Again, thanks

  • way to put em in there place zak...

  • great video

  • well said !! I loved this video . all I have to say.

  • AMEN ZAK! well said!

  • Thank you for addressing this Zak...it's unbelievable that there are soooo many pet "owners" out there with that sad and bluntly, ignorant outlook

  • Thanks Zak! This is definitely going to be linked to the truly dog friendly page! Love it. These same questions frustrate me as well!

Yes, the bond, the connection, the time, patience and responsibility to teach is everything:-)

  • yes sir. I have a little blue nose pit and i honestly have spend time whith him and apply the rules zak shows us , plus hes only 5 months and hes potty trained knows how to sit, speak, shake hands, hi five it, leave it alone trick , stay, spin almost all the tricks they show here so come on is not the dog its uss

  • Awesome! I believe that humans are the masters of their own universe. This includes accountability for their actions and the actions of those under their charge (dogs and kids alike).

  • I think the person is not blaming the dog bur rather would like to find methods on how to teach the dog not to do certain things.

  • Your hair looks fine. The dog doesn't care how your hair looks!

  • Re: peeing in the house. Sometimes the dog may have an underlying physiological problem - for example, our dog has bad kidneys and as a result she drinks a lot of water and pees a lot. Because of this sometimes she just can't make it outside in time so sometimes she has accidents. We just try to arrange things so when that happens it's not catastrophic, for example by restricting her to certain areas of the house either by training or by physical barriers (crating, gates etc.).

  • Accept responsibility for the success or failure during training.

Never blame your dog for accidents. It is up to you to be watchful and to prevent mistakes.

Be patient. Dogs do not know what you want them to do, you have to teach them.

Be consistent. Dogs learn through repetition, and any behavior that is rewarded will be repeated.

Use fairness in all things. If your dog does not understand what you want, you have no right to correct him. Show him what you want, and praise the right behavior.

  • @rottwild4ever

Train 24 hours a day. When training your dog teach them a behavior and then use it all the time in everyday life. The more you practice the faster that you will set the behaviors.

Be positive. Every time you interact with your dog it is learning something - whether it is negative or positive is up to you.

Practice attention lessons and commands. If your dog is not paying attention it can't learn.

  • @rottwild4ever

Zak I understand your frustration with this subject but try to forgive people their lack of knowledge. When people ask a question then it is a positive sign that they really want to learn. Or in the very least they are trying.

So when they come to you welcome the questions as the only stupid question is one that is not asked.

And remember that you are here to impart knowledge and to change the way people relate to their dog.

And hey thats why they pay ya the big bucks.

    ;-}

  • I went past a person outside who trew a ball and then yelled at her puppy for not knowing how to play fetch. She was embarrassed of her stupid dog. Yeah.

  • You just became my favorite dog trainer!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The owner of this dog, wants a dog that is trained to his/her likeing without putting in any time or effort in training their dog.

  • Hi zak this is Micaela I have a problem with my chihuhaua she is very smart i have tought her many tricks, but when i try to teach her a new trick she looks at me like i am teasing her when im not, and then she will just walk away, how can i keep her attention?

  • very good point there zak, lots and lots of people blame the dog.

as for the garbage thing, you know who you are. My dog used to sift through whatever garbage she could find. It was easily fixed by re-inforcing tricks she already knew, and rewarding her with a peice of regular dog food, instead of a treat. "sit" *sits* good girl, feed food. This teaches her that dog food is desireable, im not feding her garbage, this kibble is what I want her to eat. Positive learning.

  • You know how to speak to dogs but you don't know how to speak to people... most of people don't know how to communicate with their dogs and come to you because they need help and you reject them!!!! I agree with you but the way you say that!!!

  • umad?

  • I agree with someone who said they were just asking you for help. If they wanted to be reprimanded they wouldnt have asked for help. You're a real ass.

  • @acealicious that was him helping. Don't get angry at the dog, learn how to train your dog to DO GOOD THINGS, rather than NOT do bad things. For instance, if the dog jumps on people when they walk in, train the dog to sit when they hear the doorbell.

  • Looks like someone had a bad day. ;)

    You are completely right.

  • I love this video! Thanks Zak!

  • WOW, I applaud your restraint in addressing this person..

  • i love how passionate you are about dogs. i feel the same way. i dont know why people invest like zero energy into their pets and yet expect them to do everything on command. i love my dog rocky !!!

  • I so agree with you Zak!!

  • tell em ,Get a bird

  • woe! harsh delivery, they're just asking u for help.

  • 1 person dislike this video. Watch the video to know why!

  • great response Zak!

  • Before I watched this video, I thought he was gonna talk about blaming the dog for something else.

  • very true.. ive got freinds like that and i try to tell them.. the dont is only going to be a good as you.. if you dont spend the time.. you arent gonna get the dog to do what you would like it to..

  • My MIL's dog (9 yr old Lab) was a perfect puppy, never had any accidents in the house. The last couple of years he is peeing in the kitchen, near his bed, near his food bowl, against the fridge. He gets let out all the time, does his business outside, gets regular walks, he requests to go out and is let out instantly, but when coming back in as soon as you turn your back he pees indoors.

It's very hard not to blame the dog.

  • Nice video. :)

  • YAY! I'm your friend on facebook heheh :)

I agree with this video though. train your dogs everyone! just like humans, behaviour is created through experience

  • bravo, the smartest video you ever made.

  • excellent.

  • i wonder who disliked this video, is it the guy who sent the email?

  • oh thank god i already added you on facebook

  • Right on !!!

  • FIFTH!!!!!

  • I do training with my dog nearly EVERY day and what annoys me when I mention the amount of time I put in, is when people say "but he seems to do that naturally" or "he isn't a bad dog anyway and never has been", and I'm like no... the amount of time I have put into my dog is why he is so well behaved...

    Really like this video!!

  • @GlitterChix21 you know what.. people say the samething to me and my dog! i put in 3yrs of training in her (she's now 5) and people say "she's such a smart dog, i wish i could get a dog like her!" or "how did you get her to listen to you so good. She's so well behaved." I simply tell people at this point, lots of training. And they laugh and they don't believe me because apparently they have trained their dogs too but are so "dumb" and never listen.

  • @Jal1515 YES! Omg I know that. My dog is only 10 months old, but people are always like "you were just lucky to get a "good" puppy, and I am like "whatttt? we don't spend ages training all the time for no reason" :s lol It is like when people say that the dog never "got" that specific trick, like they tried once and gave up after 5 mins and that was it. It is like when people excuse aggression of any sort in the dog, that annoys me too.

  • I was wondering if you could give me a few hints on how to get my dog to stop barking. I live in an appartment building, and anytime my dog hears someone walking in the hall or any noise at all for that matter, he goes ballistic barking. I've tried water bottle, coins in a can, I've tried blocking him physically, I've tried "training collars", but nothing seems to work...can you give me any other tips that I maybe haven't thought of??

    Thanks....Christine

  • those are really short sleaves O.O haha

  • Good advice. Love the video.

  • My parents bought a coton de tulear puppy about a year ago. I keep trying to get them to 'clicker train' him, but they just don't want to put in the time. They let him off-leash in the park, and he loves to steal other dogs' toys (even big dogs--a german shepherd once) and he wouldn't come when called. My mother believed this was just in his nature and since he's so small, "it can't hurt" it's dangerous. It took me only 15 minutes to train him to come when I call him. That was it.

  • I agree with you. Some of my friends gets surprised when they come over to my house and see my dog's polite manners. They say.. "How come he's not jumping? how come he's not whining/barking in the crate? how come he's just sitting on the floor not jumping on the couch?". Many people blame their dogs for the bad behaviors. I always wanted to tell them.. "Your dog is the way it is because you let him be that way!". Thank you for posting this video!

  • I should show this to my dad. He blames my dogs for everything. He acts like there is something programed in their brains to know not to do something. He feeds them food while he eats but then expects them to sit without bugging him. Duh they are going to bug you for food if you give it to them. He yells when they chew on something. Of course they are going to chew if they are not taught right from wrong. He needs to see this stuff...

  • @Milola98 You really should show him this video!

  • I have grown up listening to dog trainers and reading dog books, so I NEVER believed my dogs were at fault when they did something wrong, I always knew it was my fault (or someone from my family if I was at school). I have trouble understanding why people feel the need to blame the dog, simply because it's never an idea that has crossed my mind, and is why I'd make a rubbish dog trainer because I have trouble containing myself around ignorant dog owners, even if it isn't exactly their fault.

  • can you please help me. so my dog Tala is 9 years old and when she was little we did a lot of mistakes because we didn't know a lot about dog training. So the biggest problem is barking when we eat and when friends come over. How do we stop that.I tried but she just bark for food(even if she gets something to eat before we eat) and when our friend come over she barks for attention(even if I play with her or something, she just want to bark). Sorry for my bad english but I really need help. Thanks!

  • I have a 10 year old border collie mix, who I've had since she was 3 months old. She's extremely good about not eating things that don't belong to her, but if there's a bowl of cat food on the ground, she will eat it. Since I'm not constantly around her, due to work, the easiest thing to do is just put the food on a counter. The cat can jump up to eat it, and the dog doesn't eat the food and put on extra weight. Simple solution. :)

  • he does make sense, I've kept dogs my whole life, but all the cool tricks our current pup knows, all down to this guy's techniques, he's awesome. And seriously people, if your dog is peeing in the house, take em outside as soon as you catch them to where they are supposed to go and treat with the tastiest thing you can get your hands on. Rinse repeat.

  • your a ass some people do train there dog not to do that and yet they still do so it not alway the persons fault so learn more about dogs please i hate people that think they know all like you just because they've been on tv or they have a youtube channel that dose well at lest be nice if someones asking for help

  • "If my dog fails, it's because I set him up to fail." -Unkown.

    Best quote ever.

  • How can I correct my dog barking at every noise? I know He's being a dog and everything, but I would like to know if theres a way to correct this. Will getting him neutered help a lot?
