  • Who is playing this? Hamelin?

  • The paper in the piano made me jump!

  • Second movement is like a mix of Scriabin and Tournemire's piano music. Interesting stuff!

  • Aaahhh...some normalcy and sanity. lol

  • This is an awesome use of prepared piano!

  • Very interesting piece of music. Thanks for sharing.

  • The prepared piano effect sounds like there is a piece of paper on top of the strings inside of the piano, which is an effect that a few modern composers have utilized, notably George Crumb on a few occasions.

  • @mountaindewrocks104... No, in this case the x indicates a performance direction or some sort of prepared piano effect. Apparently Polovinkin was amongst the first to experiment with prepared piano. Listen to what is being played at that point.

The sign for double sharp looks like an x, but it gets placed before the note head. I don't know what the double sharp flats you mention are.

  • This is stunning. Thank you for introducing me to this composer.

  • @ch252525 sorry for the late response but just now is when i came upon your question. the meaning of the x in this and all piano peices is a double sharp. in the case of the notes with the x's on top of the flat notes this is a double sharp flat which is simply the same thing as a double sharp yet making the end note flat!

  • Wow! Great!

  • @ch252525 yes that could be certainly, yet it almost sounds like an old fashioned typewriter to my ears. :)

  • @ch252525 maybe something to do with the other sound involved in that area. I'm just guessing though.
