This is reminiscent of yehudi menuhin and stephane grappelli on the project they did. Nigel was menuhin's student, jean luc started playing jazz violin because of coltrane, miles, and grappeli.
Nigel does some good licks but its obvious who the master is here. This is great though, I'd like to see more if you have any.
Totally agree with you on this one; the Menuhin / Grappelli clip of Jelousie is on you tube, and the same deficiencies are evident in both Yehudi and Nigel; no soul.
@jeremy1000100 Nah dude its just the approach, nigel is used to playing classical and rock shows instead, as well as some gypsy jazz, so naturally what he plays is very different. Ponty's music is almost unclassifiable, its like you imagine a surreal landscape..mirage is very much that kind of tune and he has been playing it for many years now. These collaborations are always fun to watch though, check out l sub, with ponty and you will the same happening, but this time its ponty who falls short
although i am a fan of nigel kennedy. ... lets all admit he got stomped on in the improv field

Thank you for having added this video. I couldn't go to this concert. It's too bad! Nigel Kennedy and Jean-Luc Ponty are both awesome.
