gotta keep that scan up... before "position and hold" or "Cleared for takeoff" comes out of your mouth you check your Scope, you check your final, and you check your runway... damn that was close
I remember that hit at LAX in 1991. The USAir737 did hit the SkyWest Metroliner. As I remember, the MetroLiner was holding at the threshold and the 737 landed on top of it. It was a nighttime accident. From what I remember, the captain of the 737 was heard on the CVR as saying, "What the hell?" That was a bad accident. No one in the SkyWest plane made it out.
A similar situation happened at LAX in 1991 with an unfortunate result. I believe a USAir 737 impacted a SkyWest or Delta Connection Communter in position and holding.
No the Releifed controller cleared him for 24L, the new controller though he was landing at 24R so he cleared SWA440 for 24L when he shoulda been on 24R, it was the new air traffic controllers fault
Was the Asiana 747 assigned the right runway? ATC issues wake turbulence warning to a UA 737 for the Asiana 747 he THOUGHT was landing on the right. Was it pilot error on part of the Asiana 747? If you believe the graphics, the Southwest aircraft was in the hammerhead unable to see who was on final. Error on their part also. All kinds of errors came together!
if i were the asiana crew, i would have mentioned to tower, 'uhh, thats our runway, uhh the southwest is on our runway'

the SW was taking off on 24L as instructed and the Asiana 747 was cleared to land 24R but lined up on 24L on final.

why dident the pilot see the southwest on the runway in the 1st place?
nathanfishing3000 1 year ago
@nathanfishing3000 the nose is banked up at such an angle that he probably couldnt see the runway

Either soutwest or Asiana was on the wrong runway. The graphics only shows one runway. Southwest cleared for 24L. Asiana cleared for 24R.
Sounds like pilot error

@dominodash21 24R is the normal landing runway and 24L is the normal takeoff runway. they do switch from time to time
