  • @MarloweDK That's your best sounding bass so far.

  • That is a beautiful Music Man. What year is it?

  • @BASSMASTA264 1977 Music Man Stingray:-)

  • @MarloweDK Ahhh so jealous. I recently bought my first music man a couple months ago used from this guy for $900. It is a 1994 Stingray with limited edition Oxblood finish he said, and it has a flamed maple fingerboard. Nothing compared to a 77 I am sure but MMs are the best. I enjoy your playing!

  • @MarloweDK Are you intending to sell it? :)

  • ooh fuckin loved it

  • great music

  • loving the cool glance at 29secs. you rock man

  • The dorian scale implies a flat 3 and 7. If your using a major 7, the scale would change to melodic minor (first mode=flat 3) If you know the seven modes of the melodic minor, you can run those scales from this postion as well. However, since you are playing the scale from the subdominant and/or fourth degree of the Em scale, the name of this scale is still modically correct. Music is truly amazing. amazing

  • "This position starts on A (the 4th), 5th fret on the G string and ends on the A, 9th fret on the G string." ???????

    Am I stupid or am I just a bassist ? = )

  • @4848277 Duly noted, but remember to use your ears first and foremost.

On a general note to all: LISTENING while getting the EXTRA help from VIEWING should learn you the notes of lick(s) relatively quick.

  • @4848277 yeah its hard... and i dont understand why your playing what your playing!

  • @ChrisVitchev ? :|

  • @4848277 Then its good that you also can HEAR the notes and make a qualified guess, right?;-)

  • @4848277 I've gotta come to Marlowe's defense here. I think it's not only clear what he's playing, but it's useful that he plays in a relaxed manner which illustrates how one *should* play. While I understand the desire to see each note laid out as plainly as possible, that only goes so far in instructing players how to play the part. And it's *good*, IMO, that you're watching the (very important) right hand so closely. :-)

  • I play the Dorian scale alot, sounds like taking a vacation in East Europe ;-)

  • musicman sting ray?

  • great lessons always marlowe

  • Jon secada!

    good vid, salutes

  • @MarloweDK your technique is great!! what exercises do you use or recommend to improve technique??

  • I honestly don't know whether to be inspired or discouraged by the vast amount of skill you so elegantly display. I have been playing for 2 years [one hour a day], which I know isn't a big number, but I pick up stuff pretty easy...and I still can't jam it like you bro. Nice playing.

  • love it! so learning this!!

  • i see that bass everywhere

  • @pinkpop91764 ?? Its standard tuning EADG

  • @MarloweDK oh thanks...sorry i can play very well but the thing is i cant tell my tunnings. but i am learning how to tell them apart and all that...thanks tho.

  • @pinkpop91764 get. owned.

  • @pinkpop91764 lol

  • Do you gig anymore?

  • i have the exact same bass...

  • Vc é o melhor professor do youtube!!!

  • MarloweDK: I see you have an affinity for Dorian :) Question: Do you only play dorian patterns and fills when the chart would have the key in dorian? Ex: A song's in the key of C and a couple bars are the Dm.... OR do you overlay the Dorian stuff over other minors A dorian in a song that's in C? OR do you just move into the dorian pattern for fills and whatnot, but resolve the fill on a more correct root? (Song in C, playing over Am section using D dorian resolving to the A) Thanks.

  • @stringbassist Use Dorien a lot when playing over a single minor chord , but of course I play Am aolian/C major when in chord progression you suggest C to Am.

Look at my video "Improvising in a minor chord progression"

  • holy sh!t dude

  • @MarloweDK "Continueing the Em dorian scale in all positions" What all positions are you refering to? i just started learned the major modes and such i know the dorian scale but what are you reffering to by positions?

  • @iKiiiLzx Im referring to the different positions (the notes you can play without moving yuor left hand) on the fretboard

  • Smooth & creamy......yum.

  • man that bass is sexy!!

  • haha yaa granturismo

  • thats a pre ernie ball musicman stingray

  • @BreakupBass Its a stingray shape, but thas not a stingray

  • @MrGallaghers it actually is a late 70's stingray

  • @BreakupBass U sure i thought tha musicman only started in the early 80s..??

  • @MrGallaghers MM started in 76, mine is from 77

  • @MarloweDK I've got a MM Stingray too, i posted a video response as well, if you dont mind could you display it! :) thanks dude

  • @MarloweDK Ok, thanks for clearing that up for me.. :D

  • @MrGallaghers no worries

  • @BreakupBass ok marlowe explained it to me, You were right sorry if i came across as a prick.. :P

  • That bass sounds great. Is it all stock? I'm thinking of building a custom precision-man bass.

  • Is a Musicman Sterling... and like all the Musicman it sounds great...

  • Very nice, I am currently putting effort into learning my theory (Enrolled for a college course a year ago and on my second year now) and my playing is certainly benefiting from it, I thank you Marlowe for inspiring me to get of my ass and learn theory in the first place! :) - Still can;t read quick enough to sight read but I'm getting there.

  • Thanks again Thomas. Good gravy!

  • damn, you are so good at these lessons that you dont even have to talk!!

  • stop being awesome i dare you

  • You play like velvet. I love your sound and you are so inspiring on so many levels. Thanks you for being so kind and sharing your gift with all of us. I truly appreciate all your videos.

  • That line sounds great slowed down. It would make a nice backing for a ballad. Maybe you should do some lessons for ballads where melodic playing is more important than technique (and just as difficult to master).

  • Good idea, ill think about that

  • What diamonddust22 said, y0 =]

  • thanks my friend :)

  • 00:29 oh that's smile...lol.

  • Fantastic video why don't these vids get as many views as in your more 'public' videos.. I mean you're awesome

I always listen to these to see your expert playing or to just insanely shout at the videos how hard they are to play..I've tried

I guess I gotta keep practising

  • smooth funky groove that's saying something Thomas! wow!!!~

  • Very nice, and as usually, GREAT tone.

On some clips you let us see your TC Electronic RH450 in the back ground.

Are you still recording these by plugging into the RH450, then into the Apogee Duet?

  • Very nice.

I have a very similar looking '82 G&L bass. I think I might add a black pick guard like the one you have there. My bass looks a little blah.

Thank you so much for the videos, instructional or otherwise. They are inspirational. Have a great day, my man.

  • it chills

  • Really cool. Thanks.
