  • It reminds me that around the same time under similar conditions, Canadian driver Bertrand Fabi crashed to death during a private session (F3000 or F3 car or similar) without any marshalling on a UK track.

  • quanto mi manchi, Elio...

  • A major influencing factor was that up to 1986, FIA did not enforce the same level of marshal and emergency response standards for test days as they did for the GP events which meant at the time of Elio's accident, the marshal response time was poor and the time it took to get him to hospital was poor (race day events had helicopters available by 86). Tragic and totally avoidable if the Marshals had been race day equiped and prepared; Elio's death changed standards for safety on testing runs.

  • he was driving a Brabham

  • Jarno ha provato la Lotus di Elio De Angelis ...

    ciao elio

  • he was poisoned by gas of fire extinguishers.

  • they say in the uk we have the best track marshalls infact the last race ov 2009 they paid british track marshalls to come over and watch there race

  • My first 'in the flesh' experience of F1 was Elio screaming down clearways at the 1982 BGP morning practice. I was a very young kid and he was a kind of hero at the time. Awful images. Strange how we feel compelled to watch them.

  • Elio and Senna were my fav drivers at that time. It was a great loss for F1 and racing.

  • wasnt there absolutely no marshals aaround the circuit at the time. this was the catalyst for it being de rigeur for marshalls to attend test sessions .

awful images, ive never seen these pics before. absolutely horrible. elio was a great driver and a great man and will never be forgotten.

  • Great driver , terrible images - RIP ELIO

  • Elio sempre con noi....RIP

  • There is nothing left of the car. I read somewhere that said he got decapitated. Is this true? RIP a great gentleman and driver

  • Where the hell did you read that? I think you must be thinking of Francois Cevert.

Elio was not decapitated, the tragedy over his accident was that had he been extracted from the car quickly, he would have stood an excellent chance of survival as his injuries were not life-threatening.

  • I didnt ever hear about chance of surviving about de Angelis accident. I was thinking he died instantly

  • Elio died in Hospital some hours after the crash. He actually reported a broken shoulder and some light ustion at his back. He got killed not by this injuries (in fact not deadly), but because he inhaled for too long time the smoke coming from his burning car and his brain got hugely damaged by lack of oxygen (asphyxia), and nothing could be done at the hospital. The trouble were not in hospital care, it was simply too late.

  • He got killed because the rescues took too long to reach the crash place and to get him outside the burning wreck. And he got killed by the smoke, not by the fire. The first people to make an attempt to rescue him were Jones, Prost and Mansell, but at no avail. The marshalls came much later, and poorly equipped (some wearing only shirts!!!) since they was running private testing. Poor Elio, RIP

  • I t reminds me Roger Williamson' s death at Zandvoort...Stewards were so irresponsible in the past...also remember Tom Pryce at Kyalami...

  • In my opinion marshalls and/or stewarts are not to be blamed, at least this time.

In my opinion it was FIA and Track Property's fault... Since they was running private testing neither of them would pay out in order to have on track the needed amount of stewarts and the right equipment.

Again, FIA and track property's fault, I will always pay my full respect to stewarts, often heroes who havo to face disaster with very few means.

    Ciao Elio, Riposa In Pace

PS I apologize for my english

  • Couldn't agree more, and don't apologize for your English because what you wrote is far superior to the vast majority of youtube posts! Thanks for sharing this point.

  • ogni volta che sento parlare di elio mi si spezza il cuore!!!Una macchina pericolosissima come la brabham lo ha portato via.

  • E' vero...uno dei più talentuosi...

  • R.I.P Elio De Angelis

  • RIP Elio.

You were a great driver, thanks for the memories

  • If I remember correctly, Elio wasn't driving for Lotus anymore in 1986. And this crash was at Paul Ricard, around mid-season.

  • of course Elio de Angelis was killed in a testing accident at the fast first turn,at circuit paul ricard built at le castellet

  • ti Rim RiderQC - HI!

he was testing a F.1 Brabham.

An adequate safety staff correctly displaced all the track long would have

pulled him out before breathing the deadly hottest gas which was the main

    cause of his death,

  • @RimRiderQC Yep, Brabham...

  • @RimRiderQC driving a brabham bt 55

  • very sad :(

R.I.P. Elio you are not forgotten ;)

RIP Elio

  • Agghiacciante....

  • que video mas malo y feo

  • y muy triste

  • Very sad. :( R.I.P. Elio...

  • Really sad...

  • L.A.C.
