  • @1860george Hi 1860George @IronMaiden leased the aircraft from Astreus Airlines, I believe this is who Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden flies for. The aircraft was used to transport the group on their world tour. Had seen a lot of photos of this aircraft and was so surprised to see it @SouthendAirport was another nice surprise on that day. Thanks for watching, I hope this helped. @Aviationvideos

  • today(14 june)an easy jet ,A319 was seen at southend airport with 2 stobard trucks,it looked like a photo shoot, lets hope something comes of it

  • @mikkie444 thanks for the update mikkie444 could be good news for all operators at the airport as makes it even more widely known, hopefully it will help grow the regional services as well.

  • I have'nt sampled this route though I have been aware of it for some time. I am told that load factors on this route are at best disappointing though, it seems they have now combined the waterford 20 min stopover on most flights instead of alternate days. Both of these factors are not good news for long term sustainence of a route I have to say.

  • @rodjames98 This route is genuinely a fantastic way to travel - yes I'm biased because I do genuinely like #Aerarann, But, going from a small airport to another like #galway is such a convenient & quick way to travel. It does beat going through the scrum and delays at the larger hubs. Plus, the people there are human beings, they are polite and seem to care about their passengers. It's tough out there now, but given time and exposure the flights could become more attractive. SEN is here to stay.

  • @bananamanuk I'm with you, I've always favoured regional aviation, it is a whole new experience. Southend still has much work to do though. The aer arran thing is a good start if its sustained but the aviation environment is a very hosile one and SEN needs to attract more than just a single operator with a regional turboprop if it is to survive. I understand the runway is in the process of extension and this is vital to attracting operators with jet equipment. The sooner the better !

  • @rodjames98 I'd highly recommend @galwayairport 4 a short break in galway but I think we've only witnessed the start of things at SEN.. both from @aerarann and, i suspect, others. Just watch the Stobart series on Channel 5 to see how wide their business is, they're a clever company and all the investment at SEN will pay off. I agree that the aviation environment is hostile, but a mature & decent industry should be able 2 support regional and legacy/ larger airlines in co-existence. Thnx 4 cmts

  • @bananamanuk Hi mate.as an update, I recently passed by SEN and noted all of the car park and terminal work going on, but what about the runway extension? there seems to be little progress with this, and without it easyjet will not be launching anything from there in april ?

  • @rodjames98 Hello there RodJames98, thanks for your comment. I believe the SEN runway extension has only just been given the final go-ahead and that the road at the end of the runway is going to be diverted. If you search online for Southend Airport news, this should help answer queries. I think Easy could probably still operate without the extension but without full loads. Thanks again for commenting (apologies for the delay in responding)

  • @bananamanuk Yeah, I think I saw the diversion measures taking place. They would be able to operate as you say but the limitation is there with the full load thing. I can remember vividly flying out of there in the eightees with air malta using a 737/200 and although the load factor was around 97% the a/c had to make an en route fuelling stop! usually this was Gatwick, or sometimes Ostend.

  • @rodjames98 Some great memories there on flying on the 737-200, I suppose with engine improvements and lighter composite materials, current generation aircraft are better equipped for making fewer fuel stops etc. but I'm not sure of the operating characteristics from SEN for the A319 without the runway extension. Anyway, this could all be academic if everything has now started. Thanks again for your comments.

  • @bananamanuk easyJet will certainly need to runway extension to operate at all, even the shortest routes since the declarable runway lengths such as landing distance are much shorter than the physical length of the already short runway due to obstructions. New CAA regs make a similar operation to the Air Malta flights impossible today.

However that is irrelevant now, since the runway extension is progressing ahead of schedule (so far)and with a bit of luck completed before the end of the year

  • @CountVis thanks for your input CountVis. SEN isn't my local airport so I don't get to see what's going on there that often. I'm sure rodjames will appreciate your additional response.

  • @bananamanuk He does!

  • @CountVis Thats good news ! What you mentioned referred to the displaced threshold at the start of 06 I presume ? This was originally in place due to a terrace of old cottages on the extreme side of eastwoodbury lane which were removed I think in 1980? Did you know also that in 1981 Hispania airlines operated a weekly caravelle jet into SEN? strange but true!

  • @CountVis Sadly though, I don't see air malta making a return to SEN, they are currently in deep financial trouble and in 2009 axed their daily MLA/STN service, so a revival here seems unlikely to me ? I live off of the memory!

  • Great video ! Is there any more new routes planned for Southend ?

  • @mlinnie527 Thank you mlinnie527. No additional routes have been announced yet, althouth both Aer Arann and Southend Airport have made mention of routes to Europe. I personally think these may be announced in a few months, after the Irish PSO routes stop and in time for the new timetable. Might be wrong though, things are changing quite quickly at Aer Arann at the moment, they are now called Aer Arann Regional.

  • Great video. Interesting that you flew over Harlow. I flew on it a few weeks ago and went via Compton and out over Brecon Beacons. Did you go this way or was it via Wallasey?

  • @cnnnghrch Hello cnnnghrch thanks for your comment. I'm pleased you enjoyed the video. The flights from Southend very often track over Harlow, in fact they fly right over my back garden, I also get the flights from IOM to City Airport as well, I'm sad enough to sit in the garden with the binoculas so I know it's them!, I'm pretty sure that coming back Galway TO southend, we went over the Brecon Beacons, they don't have any onboard maps or charts to show routings so it may not be same each day?

  • @bananamanuk the routeing tracks the Barkway beacon, thats why you seen them from your garden.

  • @rodjames98 Thanks very much for that Rodjames98, I'm not very clued up on the beacons and routings, but it's nice to see it going overhead, of course that just makes me want to go back to #Galway again!

  • @bananamanuk No problem mate, its actually located on the old nuthampstead airfield which is not a million miles from where your'e back garden lays!

  • @rodjames98 I know my garden lays under a very busy flight path for LCY, LHR, LTN, STN and now SEN traffic. I can laze in the garden with my binnoculas looking up at all the movements. god only knows what my neighbours think - usually me and dad sat out in the garden looking at all this!!! A normal life for me beckons!!! thanks for your info.

  • Another excellent video i look forward to part 2!!

  • @airaction2257 @airaction2257 Hi airaction2257 as always, thanks for watching my videos and for commenting I'm glad you liked this one. Part 2 is up now it's a little different from my normal aviation videos as there are a few shots of the scenery around Galway. I hope you enjoy that too.

  • OH My God

    The Iron Maiden airplane O.O

  • @994alessandro1 Hi 994alessandro1 thanks for watching - that Iron Maiden livery is something else isn't it. I was so pleased to see it, keep seeing pics in magazines and stuff. Was a surprise, but was very vivid.

  • Another fantastic video, really great to see some from Southend from you. Great editing as always, fancy getting the same Captain twice. I suppose that's not so unusual with Aer Arann. I suppoose it's part of the charm with them being so small, a truly excellent airline. Looking forward to your next instalments, especially if you include the landing back at Southend. Keep up the excellent work.

  • @CountVis Hellow CountVis, thanks a lot for your message I am pleased you like to see my recent Southend videos. I was surprised to get the same Captain, even moreso that as soon as I heard him on the speaker, I recognised his voice from before! Had a great crew out and back, very friendly and helpful. Really sends out a good message about the airline. I'd like to see Aer Arann grow, but personally, I want them to keep their local, more caring attitude. But that's all down to people. Thnx again.

  • What date was ur flight?

  • @Cabincrewifly Hello Cabincrewifly, I flew out from Southend Airport to Galway on RE402 on Good Friday 22nd April 2011 and returned Galway Airport to Southend on RE401 on Easter Sunday 24th April 2011. Thanks for watching.

  • @bananamanuk Cool i flew in the next day and the load was very poor only about 30 on the way out and 36 on the way back

  • @Cabincrewifly Our flight on Good Friday was full but for about 3 seats. It's still early days and will take time for people to get to know about Southend, but I think if all parties keep doing what they are doing, positive word will spread. The only other thing to say now is that a half full plane doesn't necessarily mean anything - unless we know what people paid for tickets and how much they spent on other things onboard.

  • @bananamanuk i paid a fare of 2 cent! and so did my friend!

  • @Cabincrewifly wow! lucky you, I guess that was one of aer arann's promotions. I hope this is all successful for Aer Arann, not least for the people employed not only at aer arann but also in the regions as well. Ireland is much richer for having a mature, competetive aviation sector with 4 airlines offering very different services -Aer Arann's regional flights, Aer Lingus global prestige, Ryanair's publicity and CityJet's business routes. Long may that continue :-) thanks again for commenting

  • Great video David, now I know how your editing and film quality is so good after viewing your website. My son is at present doing a film and tv course at college and brings home a camera very similar to your Sony. Look forward to some more and hope you had a great Easter weekend.

  • @irishrover63 Hello IrishRover, thanks for your kind comment, I really appreciate it. Normally I use a larger camera, a Sony HDRFX7, the colleges use the next version up than mine, having said that, Part 1 and Part 2 of my Easter trip to Galway were all filmed on a small handycam HCR3 model, just for convenience so no tripods or big cameras in sight this time. I have a great time in Galway, always do and can't wait to go back soon.

  • Great video thanks

  • @ladybab thanks a lot ladybab, i'm happy you enjoyed the video thanks for taking time to watch and comment.

  • @ALVAREZ5534 Thanks a lot, I'm pleased you liked the new #aerarann video. Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • @ALVAREZ5534 Thanks a lot, I'm pleased you liked the new #aerarann video. Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • Excellent as always, but one thing.........wheres the fab Irish music you do? I have one as my ring tone, if that is aloud? Mark

  • @MrMarkc012 Hello MrMarkc012, thanks for watching and commenting. I might have a little music on the next video, this one was all about the takeoff and landing etc so couldn't really fit anything in. I am pleased you like my music though!

  • @bananamanuk Hi Mate, You are right, I realised that after but left the message as hint to get some more music :)

Wish Aer Arann would fly from Exeter (nearest airport) to Waterford etc, you can do Bristol to Dublin with another airline but they are just awlful. Anyway thanks again and keep up the excellent work. Cheers, Mark

  • @MrMarkc012 Hello Mark, thanks again for your support. I have just uploaded part 2 and there is a good few mins of music on that video.. although I am running very low on celtic sounding samples now!!

I hope Aer Arann does expand in the future, but I guess at the moment, most airlines are being cautious because f the economic situation. I hope you get to sample Aer Arann in the future though.

  • @MrMarkc012 Ahh man, you can't put music on them lovely engine sounds!

  • Nice video mate.. Waiting for Part 2 :P

  • @deanow2007 Thanks Dean, pleased you liked it. Part 2 coming soon.

  • Flew this route last Saturday!

  • 0:52 Ed Force One !
