And if you are a New Yorker- anyone that lives downtown knows the towers and their foot prints were not only Ground Zero- downtown was devastated for blocks and blocks. I lived 5 blocks away and up to that point everyone had to be evacuated and we moved out for 7 months because common sense told you the air quality was not healthy.

@haidan32 Are you really that stupid? The serial killers weren't committing their violence in the name of Christianity, whereas the 9/11 terrorists were doing it in the name of Islam. Granted, radical Christians are kooks just as much as radical Muslims, but your logic is very flawed.

@typluz, you OBVIOUSLY haven't been anywhere. I'm living in Malaysia, which is an Islamic country with Islam as the primary religion & mostly populated by Muslims, and there are MANY churches / temples here. You should go out more. I pity you

Who is accountable for the victims' families who find this to be rubbing a wound that has not healed. There is not even a memorial. Not to mention the history of triumphalism. You don't justify (perceived) bad behavior by pointing out bad behavior. This is about right/wrong not black/white.

@typluz - since when does islam believe in not educating women? it actually believes women should have equal rights and should be as educated and independent as any man. it specifically has laws on letting women own land, have jobs, educate themselves and so forth. i think i would know better what my faith decrees on the rights of women and the love of other people, as i am a muslim myself. as for the hate, islam is a religion on peace, and doesn't believe in harming or being against any perso

You might want to add that Prophet Muhammad's first wife, Khadijah, was a wealthy business lady and also his Employer. She was about 40 when he married her at the age of 25 and the marriage lasted for 25 years apparently. Also, I happen to know that the student body at An-Najah National University in Nablus, Palestine (mostly Muslim) is more than 50% Female !

@missz7 Wow you MUST be confused. Clearly you're not aware of what happens in Islamic countries. Islam is NOT a religion of peace. It's a religion of slavery and war. If you don't believe me....go to an Islamic country and see for yourself. Visit Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan and take a look at all of their "women's rights". In those countries they LIVE by the Qu'ran....I mean truly live by it. They do EXACTLY what that book tells them to. They torture women, kill gays, and decapitate each other.

He should stick to what he knows...music. He is NOT a Native New Yorker. He was (obviously) not in New York on 9/11 running for his life --and, he obviously, did not lose a family member, loved one or friend from the tragedy that day.
It's not just as cut and dry as he tries to makes it seem ....

I've been studying Islam and I see nothing in my religion that tells me to kill innocent people. The only thing I wish for you and everybody you know is God's mercy. The mosque near ground zero will contain good people just like a church will contain good people.

We all have a place. I think that's what USA stands for. And it is still easier for the insulted people to watch "the enemy" in plain sight rather than watching over them with mini spy planes don't you agree? Though I still have a good feeling those people watching closely won't be seeing anything "terrifying" much.

Persecutors aren't innocent. If you read your history, the Crusaders first captured Jerusalem from the muslims and slaughtered the muslim mercilessly. Saladin after, had recaptured Jerusalem then allowed the non-muslims to live peacefully. Don't read a book by verse, read it all. And people are people. Islam is Islam.

i dont have to be a New Yorker to be able to tell what a heinous act of violence 9/11 was. Islam denounces violence just as any other mainstream religion. It preaches peace to not just human life but to this planet as a whole.
Many muslims lost their life than day as well, and we'll never forget that.

@LegrandnjClassicSoul I can't believe narrow minded people like you still exist. Its almost 2011 and people still feel that people don't deserve their god given right to worship where they can. The building is not just a Masjid/Musalah/Mosque its a community center/ memorial/ and place for interfaith communication. Its just that the muslims feel that they need to help rebuild the community to help people see muslims as we are peaceful productive people. We work and pay taxes just like everyone.

@ashrafc ha ha,, Irish universities actually, how many books have u read on the subject?... in can guess none this is just a knee jerk reaction from yourself, the Spanish inquisition was largely fabricated to suit an agenda , and when compared with other inquisition paled in comparison to other countries, of the nearly 50,000 people tried by the inquisitors, only around 800 were executed over a 350 year period and most of them were criminally insane,
