Thought David Easter was better than Robert Torti personally. This guy's good - a shame though he didn't double up as Levi, which all other Pharoah's did. Makes for a lot more fun to see the cast in dual roles.
I wonder if my schools performance of this will make it on youtube, i played the part of Pharoah and it was a great part, sadly this song was not in it, but standing ovation three nights in a row, it was tremendous
@Peadarisback That seems to be the only logical explanation. My dad did this show in high school in '84, and they were using the London script/score. This wasn't isn't, so it must be from the revival.
When I saw Dean, I was fourth row from the front, and I made the peace sign to him, and he made the peace sign back, I was like, kewl! =D He is such a good Pharoah lol!
Dean is the best Pharaoh ever! He is billiant at the comic side of the role. And his voice ... my god, his singing is sensational! When Joseph returns to the West End (hopefully that will be sooner rather than later) he sould play Pharaoh again! WELL DONE DEAN!
Dean is even better than here in this video. This song was just new when this was recorded. Now he made it his own and wow...when he makes those long high notes....brilliant! But what are people talking about, with the "original song"?
I have just seen Joseph 6 times in one week and will be going back for the last matinee show on May 30th. I will even try and get a ticket for the final show that evening. Fingers crossed.
Dean is fantastic! Steals the show, especially with this song!
Where's the original song?! His performance is great, but the original song created so much more atmosphere! It was such a fantastic way to start Act II - why change it? If it's not broke, don't fix it!!!!
Oh Dean was soooo good! I mean Joseph ofcourse is the lead and I just saw it 3 days in a row with Gareth (his first week) and he was fantastic...but I also have to give so much credit to Dean as Mister Pharaoh Man! he does such a brilliant job! I very much enjoyed his perfomances!
Ah ok - well there aren't any new lyrics - it comes just after "Anyone from anywhere can make it if they get a lucky break" - and then the "This could be a happy ending, perfect place to stop the show" comes in afterwards, just before Canaan Days.
I think it's fits quite well, and doesn't seem strange when you see it.
I'm not sure how I feel about this. I have been in 22 productions of Joseph and how does it actually fit in when in Stone the Crows the Narrator says:
This could be a happy ending, Perfect place to stop the show Joseph after all has gone
About as far as he can go But I'm sure that Jacob and His other sons have crossed your mind How had famine hit the family Joseph left behind?...
elvis has been re born , the show has revived lets see more of pharo and hear more. Elvis past on but a star is shinning in his place well done pharo (DEAN COLLINSON
They haven't replaced any of the songs, this is just an extra in the uk shows. And for most of us, we Love it!!! This guy is just the most amazing person, and his voice makes me melt.... so if they want to add any more songs for him i say go ahead!!
I love Dean - he's just the best!!!! His voice is so awesome!!!! He's the most amazing and talented guy. So sweet and friendly too!!! I'll never get sick of seeing him do this live!!!! :D
The expert Press critics reported that the song time, was required for scene changes and costume changes. so what beter than a NEW ALW/Rice composition that obviously pleased the majority.
When you hear a song for the first time, it never connects very well. It takes some familiarity to be able to warm to it. I didn't warm to this new one at Joseph particularly, because I hadn't heard it before, but it has endeared itself to me since. And I had the privilege of hearing Dean Collinson sing it at the ALW radio gala, when he was superb (and very funny)!
Battycys (if thats your name?), how can you not have enjoyed that?!! Yes Lee was amazing and was fantastic but you can't have clapped for dean just to get off coz he was just as good! And talking about stage time is rubbish too - And as for whom ALW decided to write another song for really isn't you place to say what he should have done - You can't say you know better than ALW himself im afraid :>
Joe, Batty is only a nickname, the real one is Ian Nancy Sane. My comments were 'tongue-in-cheek' meant to 'wind up' Dean's many fans. He was great. This video does not do him justice. In the theatre, he sounds much better. I also know about his work with Sonia and in composing songs. It is also nice for the Really Useful Group to re-employ someone who has previously sued and criticised them.
Batty or Sane you got it right this time all that you said is true, Dean also had a successful run in A.L.W. Whistle down the wind, and Despite earlier probs Dean has great respect for A.L.W. and the Really Useful company.
Joe's best friend, I think Dean got injured moving and falling off scenery which malfunctioned frequently during Whistle Down the Wind. When the camel did not come out (malfunction of revolving stage) at Joseph Opening Night, I thought, Oh Dean, please do not try to help by pushing set out! We need you to be the Pharoah.
I think Dean is great in the show. However, I went to see Lee! and when Dean was singing (at one time on stage for a long time) I was just thinking when Lee will come back on again. I CLAPPED like mad when Dean finished because I know Lee will appear on stage soon. Others applauded because Dean was great. Sorry Dean, and I did not appreciate the new song for the Pharoah and thus less stage time for Lee. ALW should have written a new song for Lee instead.
A fantastic show Joseph did a remarkable job playing the part but my opinion Dean Collinson played a most commanding part in the second half of the show.

where does this song come...In Joseph?
It's only for the London 2007 revival isn't it? Is it between "Pharoh's dreams explained" and "stone the crows" ?

This guy has totally over sang Joseph/Lee Mead/.
I saw him live and poor Lee's vocals have just disappeared comparing with Dean's voice.
mayda00 3 years ago
They are two completely different performers with very different vocals.
I watched Lee the other night and his voice has certainly not disappeared. Perhaps you caught Lee on an "off" night. He's only human after all :)
Cece221986 3 years ago
I totally agree with you. Lee's amazing and the fact that he can meet his high standards every show, eight times a week, is absolutely incredible!
