Such a fantastic piece of music, my all time favourite. Anyone have an English translation. This is just so good, there may be an equal- though I doubt that, but not a better version . Thank you Netania Davrath and the orchestra, my best wishes to you for all your future ventures.
Than you so much fro such a beautiful version of this gorgeous song. Netania Dvrath sings it like it should be sung, like a shepherdess, not a soprano!
Thanks so much for the beautiful presentation!!! Wonderful photography and such a clear rendition of the song. The lyrics provided were a Godsend to me as I am learning this for a show next month and have been struggling with making out various soprano's pronunciation of this song. The clarity of the soprano's voice along with the lyrics was fantastic. Thanks again!!!
first heard this on an advert for dubonnet in the mid seventies, it took a while to find this version. Her diction is perfect, every word in every song clear and pure, she deserves more recognition. Beautiful music and beautiful images.
@mattcurtis: *Thank You* for uploading my *favorite* version of this song; have this on a CD (in storage overseas); hadn't heard it in nearly 10 years---until this morning. Wow; as ever, brought tears to my eyes; great job on the video; wonderful, detailed info attending; a *perfect* YT upload!
This song had me transfixed the first time I heard it, nearly 30 years ago, and it hasn't lost its magic. This version is especially beautiful. Thanks.
Ya I accidentally discovered this my Dreamland about a month ago driving there. the people as just so nice and the girls gorgeous, still singing and their hsitory is so vivid with the land!
Very, very beautiful interpretation. Her voice is so uncontrived - it's simple and pure. I'm curious, could anyone tell me the date of this particular recording?
@miriamnz There are two recording dates on this disc: 3/27/1963 and 3/16/66. (Orchestra conducted by Pierre de la Roche) Reissued in 1990 by Vanguard Classics.
The Songs of the Auvergne appeared in five books; the first four in the 1920s and the fifth in 1955.
@mattccurtis Thanks for doing so, as the whole presentation is just...perfect. Where did you find the Occitan language symbols? I thought it was now a dead language. Well, it doesn't matter, as you've done an excellent job. Do check out Anna Caterina Antonacci and the BBC 2010 PROMS production of several of the songs on You-Tube. Great presentation. iTunes has Netinia's album! So do I! Thanks again.
Yes Lizzie: quite haunting! Perhaps the very best of the renditions on recording. With Victoria de los Angeles' version in the pot, that is saying something indeed!
a song I heard many times as a child played by my Father and loved by my Mother one of the classics of the repertoire as well as being truly beautiful
Thank you for sharing this beautifully crafted video, this is the best rendition of Canteloube's Bailero that I have come across. Art is subjective I know and there are many great classical singers but Netania Davrath's voice really sounds like she is a young shepherdess calling to her lover across the valley in the cool stillness of a summers evening.
I am sorry, but I don't think this is the best version. I think Moffo's is the best. Davrath seems to me too conscious a singer in these songs--rrrroooolllling her r's in a way essentially unnatural. But Moffo just sings from the heart, sweetly and naturally but always with a subtle consciousness of her own excellence in these songs
@jane8fred -- Putting it politely, Ketherine Jenkins may be popular in the UK, but her vocal limitations technically and her inability to grasp what she is singing about (or if she understands, then she certainly doesn't put it across), means she cannot be seriously compared to proper or serious professional singers. Without wanting to be cruel, I sometimes wonder if she'd be famous at all if she didn't have blonde chocolate-box looks. I find her kind of cutesy fame cloying and irritating.
@shropshireladNE Thank you. I did not know that she had recorded Canteloube. I am familiar with here Baroque work, of course. I shall certainly have to give her a listen. Thanks again.
Absolutely delightful.

So serene and haunting. I'm in love with this , and France. Dreams of hills ,sheep , honest people and simple life. Is there a better life to be had?

The singing is georgous, but the visual presentation is also outstanding. You are clearly gifted! Thank you for stimulating visual and aural senses!

@The99Gambo Thanks. I'm glad you like it.
I just threw the song, the lyrics, and a photo of the Auvergne into Windows Movie Maker and did my best.
It's such a transcendent song that I had to promote it.

Heard the same music in the background to the 1945 film 'Henry V', when the victorious English King is speaking the princess.

godthisispainful 1 year ago 3
@godthisispainful Do you know that many voice coaches and teachers around the world are telling singers to not roll their r's? How ignorant is that?
billyguns2 1 year ago
@billyguns2 All great choristers and choirs all roll their Rs, perhaps they are referring to pop music?
jane8fred 1 year ago
@jane8fred No, they are specifically referring to opera and classical song.

@craigenputtock: I beg to differ. The best version of Baïlero, IMHO, is the one by Maria Bayo. Moffo is too operatic.

@craigenputtock Katherine Jenkins also does a superb version of Bailero, but it’s not on You Tube.
